It was all very daunting and upsetting when we knew that Jim would have to go into a Nursing Home but we were fortunate there was space for him at Walton House. The care he has recieved has been excellent and also the care myself and family have recieved has been first class. The staff have all been brilliant and cant do enough for Jim and ourselves. Thank you all. x

My mom is in Walton House after a stroke. She can't walk, so caring for her requires patience and a great deal of professionalism. I am very grateful to the Walton House staff for their attention to my mom and for prolonging her life. It's priceless.

Thank you for the warm, clean room, and, of course, a special thanks for the delicious food that my mother eats with pleasure!

My grandmother has been living at this nursing home for over a year and a half, and I can confidently say that it has been a true blessing for our family. The level of care, compassion, and professionalism shown by the entire staff is outstanding. They treat every resident with dignity and respect, and it's clear that they truly care about the well-being and happiness of those in their care.

The facility is clean, warm, and welcoming - it really feels like home. There are regular activities and social events that keep her engaged and happy, which means the world to us. We feel peace of mind knowing she is safe, well-cared for, and surrounded by people who treat her like family.

I'm deeply grateful for everything the staff does, and I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for a supportive and loving environment for their loved one.

Every time I go in, I am always pleased with how my husband looks. The only complaint I would have are the slippers, as he never seems to have his own ones. I understand it is not easy as I know he walks into other rooms. Staff are always polite and glad to answer any questions I ask. Manager always polite, keeps me up to date with any problems with my husband.

Reply from Clare Cogan Turner, Communications at Walton House

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a kind review, we appreciate it very much. I can confirm your feedback about the slippers has been shared directly with the Manager who will look into the matter and get back to you as soon as possible.

All staff were absolutely kind and caring to my mother who passed away in the home a few days ago. Both my wife and I were very happy with the home. My mother loved it to the extent she put 1stone on in 6 weeks. Mom had dementia but even when she was difficult to deal with the staff showed skill knowing how to calm her and put a smile back on her face. Many thanks to all.

I was very impressed by the care and attention he received, whilst in there.
The staff were amazing, the room was spotless.

The food was excellent and I was made to feel very welcome, even was allowed to bring my dog. Accommodated to all our needs. Thank you.

Overall Experience
My husband was a resident at the Walton Care Home for 6 months. Because of a number of incidents and the general level of care, he has now moved to a different home.
1. His wheelchair was lost by the home and to date no arrangements for replacement or compensation have been made.
2. My husband was left sitting up in a chair all night as against being transferred to his bed.
3. He had bruising and bleeding on one knee. This wasn't brought to my attention and when I asked staff about it no explanation could be given.
4. He received inappropriate food resulting in weight loss.
5. Decisions in his change of diet weren't agreed with me.
6. Inadequate support at mealtimes and with liquids.
7. His medication was administered irregularly or missed out.
8. His personal hygiene was inadequate. No baths or showers, rarely shaved or teeth brushed.
9. General cleanliness was poor especially in his room, with spills being left and surfaces not cleaned.

10. With the exemption of a few staff were unfriendly.

Reply from Emily Nash, Administrator at Walton House

I am very sorry that you feel that your husband had such a poor experience. Some of what you raised had been managed through our complaints process and through meetings to discuss. However, in order to address fully what you have raised now we will look into and report back to you further as part of our commitment to good quality care and as part of lessons learnt.

It took two weeks for her belongings to be moved from her original room to a smaller and colder room. I eventually moved them, some were not moved and when they were, they were left leaning against the wall waiting to be hung up.
Clothing is clean but can take time to come back.
Shortage of pillows - there one day and then gone.
Has now been in the room for four weeks, asked for a bath but was only given a bed bath.

Complaints of being hungry.

Review from A C (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 30 June 2022 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother-in-law was in here for just under 6 weeks before her passing. Most of the staff were good at what they did but lack of leadership sadly let them down. On her arrival from hospital, her room wasn’t ready and the family had to help tidy it. My mother-in-law was often left unwashed or dressed for hours. Despite speaking to the house manager nothing seemed to change. The staff were always friendly and obliging but it didn’t seem right that the family always had to ask and sometimes help rather than care that should have been provided. As an amputee, she required a hoist to help her in and out of bed/chair and several times we were told the hoist wasn’t working due to the battery being out of charge which left her in bed for long periods of time. Not all staff were identifiable due to lack of uniform or name badges, in general this care home needs a big shake-up in my opinion.

It's quite difficult to fill in some ratings as some of the carers are excellent and some are poor. Information is not passed onto other carers (important). The approach to my mum could be a lot better, she does have mild dementia and this is often ignored when she refuses to wake up for food and personal care. The approach by some carers is not appropriate. The manager listens and promises change but it doesn't happen or it happens but doesn't last.

Mum came to Walton House in October from the hospital and I have to say the care she has received is 100%. Care and support from all the staff and management. Mum is paraplegic and has lost her speech and the girls (as we call them) all make her laugh and smile. They always keep me informed of any issues, of which there have not been many, and are always happy to answer any questions I have. The atmosphere here is so relaxed and Mum feels very much at home. Her time here so far has been happy under difficult circumstances and a massive life change for her.

Having to put a partner into a nursing home is not a nice experience. However, realising that it would be impossible to care for my partner at home, we looked at a number of local care homes. We are very pleased with our choice as it is a light, bright environment and the management and staff are really caring and supportive. My husband has been in the home for over two years now and throughout lockdown the management and staff were as flexible as guidance permitted. Very satisfied.
