I have no regrets choosing St Mary's Lodge as the place to care for my mum during these difficult years.
First and foremost, the staff are exceptional! They are warm, compassionate, sensitive, patient and always focused on making each day as pleasurable as possible for all residents in their care.
Regular
activities are offered designed to stimulate and engage, and the time of year is always reflected by wonderful seasonal decorations and uplifting entertainment.
The food is of a high standard, with a daily selection of meals to choose from, and regular drinks and snacks served throughout the day.
The Lodge is beautifully designed, offering a safe environment to relax or socialise in, with cleanliness a high priority.
Each stage of my mum's dementia is met with professionalism and compassion, giving my family not only the peace of mind that mum is getting the best care possible, but also comfort in seeing her so settled. Thank you!

Mum has been a resident for nearly 3 years. I cannot thank the staff enough for their kind, careful understanding of Mums, sometimes challenging, personality.
St Mary's Lodge staff continue to care for all Mums needs in a warm, homely environment. Mum is seen as an individual lady with her own personal
list of preferences and dislikes. Every effort is made to provide for her.
Reply from Louise Lambert, Home Manager at St Mary's Lodge Care HomeThank you for taking your time and kind words, i will certainly share this with the whole St Mary's Lodge team, it has been a privilege to care for your Mum for nearly 3 years and to share her journey with her and your family. At the beginning of December my Mother-in-law was diagnosed with numerous cancers. Unfortunately, this progressed much quicker than expected meaning she was unable to care for herself. A room at St Mary's Anlaby was quickly arranged between their admin team and the Discharge Team from Hull Royal.

From

her admission to the home my Mother-in-law was immediately made welcome by the whole team, and quickly started learning their names. Even the residents would visit to say hello. When visiting with my Daughters, the staff in there made them feel welcome and even included them with some of the activities available. This made every visit to their Nana less intimidating and incentivised them to visit more often.

Unfortunately, my Mother-in-law passed after a few short weeks at St Mary's. The team were fantastic with our family and ensured the whole process was handled delicately and with care.

Thank you to the whole team for being so professional and attentive with everyone in family.

Reply from Louise Lambert, Home Manager at St Mary's Lodge Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave us such a kind review, our thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. What a lovely clean and very friendly place. Would highly recommend it, the care my grandma got was fabulous. The staff were always available, nothing was too much and all the other residents were well looked after. The room are massive which makes it feel more homely. We just couldn't find fault
with any of it.

Mum came in on the 31st of December after a stay in hospital. She was met by some amazing staff who help get her settled into her new room. The care that mum has received since she has been in St Mary's Lodge has been amazing. They have been very accommodating to mums needs and always checking in on
her as she has been bed bound. They have made sure mum is comfortable. They have also made me feel welcome every time I've visited mum, kept me upto date with mum's condition and how she's been. The food that has been offered to mum has been lovely. Nice hearty meals such as lamb hotpot, beef stew with a homemade trifle. The look of the home it's self is set out nice with a welcoming look when you step through the doors. It also has an added bonus of seeing the wildlife through the windows such as squirrels playing and robins coming to the bird boxes. The home is also kept very clean and tidy with rooms cleaned daily.
Reply from Paul Millar, Client Relations at St Mary's Lodge Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such kind and thoughtful words about your mum's time with us at St Mary's Lodge. We were deeply saddened to hear of her passing and all of us send our heartfelt condolences to you and your family during this very difficult time.

It truly means a great deal to the whole team to know that your mum was made comfortable and that you felt welcomed, supported, and kept informed throughout her stay. It was a privilege to care for her, and she was very much respected and cared for by everyone who had the pleasure of looking after her.
Your kind words regarding the home , the meals, and the little moments such as watching the wildlife are especially touching, and we're grateful you noticed the care and thought that goes into making St Mary's Lodge a calm and comforting place.
Please know that our thoughts are with you and your family. If there is anything at all we can do to support you, now or in the coming days, do not hesitate to ask

All are professional, sister-in-law is content and well looked after. Not sure about the quantity of activities on offer as I have never seen any. This home is more expensive than others in the group. I am assuming this is because of its size?

The leadership of this home is incredible and all the Staff are amazing.... caring, friendly and always helpful. The routine in the home is constant, which is important to the residents. They take time to get to know each individual in their care, and therefore understand all their needs. The food is
very good and varied and the residents are given choices as to what they would like for each meal.
The home is meticulously clean, and lots of different activities provided to cater for each individual. It is always decorated for each season/celebration and is a delight to visit.
I am delighted to have chosen St Mary's for my Mum's care and I'm very confident she will be well looked after. Thank you to all the Staff x

Our mam for the first month really didn't like it as social services made the decision to take my mum's flat off her, as it was too dangerous for her to stay there, and didn't understand why, and didn't like the change. But after a lot of explaining from my sister and I, she settled brilliantly, and
knows all the staff and carers and things the lodge is beautiful and is looked after on all levels of her care and its now her home and want to stay. "Thank God"

Mum has been in St Marys for over 4 yrs, and she has had many ups and downs in her medical journey (Alzheimers, Depression, Psychosis); St Marys has made it possible for us to get through this as a family, and for Mum to have amazing care as we progressed. The staff are fantastic - always willing to
go the extra mile, ensuring Mum is safe, loved and engaged, but also have empathy and manage her many ups and downs. They are open to feedback, take time to speak to us, and often chase up things from local GP and other hospital visits to make sure Mum is taken care of. I like the way the team are committed to their patients, and know all the residents well, and ensure that they feel part of the community. Its so hard to have a loved one cared for by others, but the St Marys team make this so much easier. We will always be grateful for the many staff - Alys, Louise, Sophie, Jo, and the rest of the team who are so wonderful with Mum. Long may they be there!

My husband came into St Mary's Lodge in May, as by then I was really struggling to meet his care needs (on my own at home) due to my own health issues. For over 5yrs he would not engage with any of the Mental Health Team's efforts for social activities or carers coming to the home etc. so we knew going
into a residential home would be a massive challenge. After a lot of researching we took him for a visit to St Mary's, we all thought it was lovely, the residents seemed happy, relaxed and cared for, the staff were friendly and down to earth.
I'm happy to say my husband settled so well at St Mary's Lodge, he says he's happy and he likes it there and to my relief he hasn't been asking to come home, even after hospital stays he was happy to return there. It's such a weight lifted off my shoulders and heart ~ Big thanks to all the lovely staff.

I did my homework to find the perfect home for mum and absolutely found it. The staff are amazing...they are happy, full of fun, a close team who really care...evident as soon as you walk in the lovely immaculate building which has the freshness of a hotel rather than a home.
It amazes me how the staff
are always giving 100% in what is clearly a difficult emotional and taxing job to do.
It is an agonising decision to move your loved one out of their home when you know it's the right thing to do so it's so important you get it right.
I absolutely did !

I moved my mum into St Mary's Lodge in January following the loss of my step father. They had had a live-in carer but it became too difficult for her to remain at home without her "rock". I visited several care homes before choosing St Mary's Lodge because my mother suffers from both vascular dementia
and severe mobility problems. Within days mum kept repeating that she couldn't be in a nicer place. She loves her room and the staff are all just so friendly. When I compare her care situation to my friends' parents it's clear that she and I are very fortunate to have found a room at the Lodge. Mum's happier than she has been for while and I know that she's getting the best care possible. A huge thank you to all the care team!

My Dad has been a resident at St Mary's Lodge for the last 2 months having been a resident in a specialist unit for nearly 2 years, I cannot thank the team enough for treating my dad with care, dignity and compassion from the moment he/ we arrived!! He has a very cruel type of Dementia and has many
other health issues going on. The team has gone above and beyond to make sure his needs are met in every way possible. The home is always immaculate ,food is super, the atmosphere is warm and lovely, the team create this, always working to make sure all the residents have the highest level of care, I know my dad feels settled and happy and is having so many more Lucid moments than he has had in the last years, this is only down to how settled and cared for he feels. The manager and her team are a total credit to the care group. All of the above has given my family a much needed sense of relief that he is in the best place possible. Thankyou all

My dad has been at St Mary's Lodge for 4 months now. He has had a tough 4 years, previously staying at 3 different specialist care homes. Finally, after being able to move him into St Mary's, the difference in just 2 weeks was just incredible. It was as though his lights had been switched on.
St Mary's
Lodge is the most beautifully decorated home, with the nicest of atmosphere, it is always immaculate, it doesn't smell, and Dad always looks smart, with his clothes washed and looked after. Dad is on blended foods and they always make sure he gets the nutrition he needs.
The management and all the staff have gone above and beyond to cater for all of Dad's needs, whether he is in the lounge or in his bedroom, Dad is always been watched.
We can't thank everyone enough for finally making such a difference in our experience visiting Dad. So very happy Dad is finally somewhere he deserves to be.

My grandma came into the home several months ago. It was really tough for her to transition to being in the home but with the expert guidance of the managers and day staff that I spoke to so regularly, she started to refer to them as her friends. She was welcomed by all the staff and wasn't someone
to be fooled, but she trusted them and made special bonds with many of the staff too. She received the much-needed hugs, kind words and practical support she needed with dignity, professionalism with personal delivery. The home itself is so clean and comfortable and collective meal times with 3 courses and my grandma's favourites often popping on the menus meant so much. At such a difficult time, I personally could not recommend the home and staff highly enough. Knowing your favourite person is being looked after so well when you can't be there all the time is priceless. Thank you all.

My mother had an all too short stay at the Lodge between the end of July and the beginning of November 2024. She was resistant and difficult on admission but the care and patience of the managers and all the staff over the days and weeks led to my mother settling and smiling again. She was confused
and her moods was unstable as well as falling frequently but I cannot fault the care shown, the right level of encouragement, personal, respectful, and at the end dedicated to ensuring the best possible ending for her. My family and I will be always grateful. In terms of the physical surroundings, food, etc the Lodge had all that was needed for mum, good quality and I appreciated the open invitation to stay for food with my mum. Thank you to management and your team of brilliant caring staff.

We brought Mum to this care home as a most vocal, unwilling guest in August this year. The managers were friendly and courteous to Mum and treated her with incredible insight, dignity and empathy. At no time was she allowed to feel vulnerable or alone. They respected her wishes and basically earned
her approval. They could not have done this without their amazing team of carers. They each played their own special role in making Mum feel loved and appreciated to the point that Mum was nearly/really?! loving them as much as us! Mum after only a week or so thought of the home as her home. When we took her out she sailed back in to be greeted by the staff as friends. If you look at the other residents you can see how well they are treated and how happy they are. The staff made my mum's last few months enjoyable and made this last chapter one we will always remember with affection and gratitude. I cannot praise the staff enough. Thank you.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.950 for St Mary's Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (249 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 259 Ratings = 4.95
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Mary's Lodge Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 26 registered maximum number of service users is 5.2, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
