Castle Grange

Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
We contacted social services and raised a safe guarding order for my dad who was neglected at Castle Grange in Scarborough. There are staff members that do a great job at caring for residents, so this review isn't to undermine them. But the flaws in management and training of staff meant that my dad
didn't have consisted carers that understood his needs. This improved when we complained but his care was only sufficient when certain staff members were present (to whom we are grateful for) Dad was left in the same nappy for over 2 days on multiple occasions. He had poo on his hands when eating and we found bruising round his wrists consistent with being grabbed. He was often found stinking of urine. We as a family had to step in and do his personal care on mulitple occasions. Some weeks we were the only ones that could do it. He is now at another home where the difference is remarkable and highlights further, the inadequacies at CG. Dad is now happy, stimulated and well looked after.

St Marys Chanterlands Care Home

from Amanda C (Daughter of Resident) published on 3 July 2026

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
My mum was a resident at this care home for four weeks. During her stay, our family had to raise concerns on several occasions regarding the standard of her care.
My mum was RIG-fed, and we were very concerned about the cleanliness of the feeding equipment. On more than one occasion, the cups used
with her feeds appeared dirty and had not been cleaned to an acceptable standard. We also noticed that her room was not cleaned regularly, with bins often left full for extended periods.
These issues caused our family considerable concern, particularly as my mum was vulnerable and relied on staff for all aspects of her care. We felt that our concerns should not have needed to be raised repeatedly.
Sadly, my mum has since passed away. However, had these problems continued, we would have seriously considered requesting a move to another care home.
It has taken me some time to write this review because the experience was upsetting for our family. I hope this feedback is taken seriously.
Reply from Maxwell Andrews, Marketing Lead at St Marys Chanterlands Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are very sorry to hear about the loss of your mum and would like to offer our sincere condolences to you and your family.
We are sorry that you feel this was your experience at St Mary's Chanterlands, and we apologise for any upset caused.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. Please be assured that we take all feedback seriously, as it helps us to reflect on the care we provide and identify where improvements can be made.

Thank you again for sharing your experience.

Lovely care home. My mother recently had two weeks respite care here and was treated very kindly by all the staff. She enjoyed the food, activities, and the interaction with staff and other residents. The care home is virtually brand new, it was all very clean and the bedroom facilities were lovely.
Would recommend.

From my initial calls with Aneetha, Amanda's assessment of mum, and the wonderful warm welcome mum received from them, and Vicky, on her arrival, the support and care has been outstanding.
Having suffered significantly from anxiety, mum settled in immediately in its beautiful surroundings, and staff
have continued to provide excellent care and support, keeping me updated whenever needed, which has been an added source of comfort.
A Huge Thank you to everyone

We are incredibly grateful to have found Adel Square. After visiting several care homes, we were amazed when we found this one. It is absolutely beautiful, spotless, and the staff have been exceptional from the moment my mum moved in.
They have gone above and beyond to help her settle in, and the difference
in her wellbeing has been remarkable. She looks happier and healthier, and her memory has even improved thanks to the wonderful level of engagement and support she receives every day.
The food must be exceptional too. For the first time in a very long time, I asked my mum what she had for lunch and she remembered straight away. She even said that the batter on her fish was the best she had ever tasted!
I cannot thank Diane and her team enough for their care, kindness, and dedication. They have made such a positive difference for my mum, and to our family. I would highly recommend Adel Square to anyone looking for outstanding care.

The interior of the care home is beautifully designed and decorated on each floor, just like a 4 star hotel. The residents individual rooms are well designed with great furniture included as well as wall mounted tv. The ensuite is lovely, spacious, light and bright.
It would be good to have the special
film on the windows in the groundfloor rooms that face the high street so residents can see out clearly but passers-bys can't see it
Reply from Adam Ward, Regional Director at Lincoln Manor Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share your feedback and recommendation. We are delighted to hear that you were impressed with the design and dcor of the home, as well as the quality of our residents' bedrooms and en-suite facilities.

We also appreciate your comments regarding the ground floor windows. We acknowledge your suggestion about the screening on the windows facing the high street, and we are pleased to advise that the Home Manager had already identified this as an area for improvement and has taken steps to explore suitable solutions that will enable residents to enjoy clearer views out while maintaining their comfort and privacy.

Thank you again for your valuable feedback. We greatly appreciate your recommendation and are always grateful for suggestions that help us enhance the experience of our residents and visitors.

My uncle has been living at Castle Grange since November 2025. From the first visit we were so happy with Castle Grange, Denise showed us round and answered all of our questions and we were impressed with the facilities and felt it was the right place for my uncle. The management team were great in
supporting us to move my uncle as he was moving from another county and helped to make it a smooth transition.
We were quite nervous about how my uncle would settle in and if it was the right decision for him. Four months later and it was the best decision we could have made. He is so settled and happy and loves living there. All the staff are great with him and you can see they are all caring and enjoy their jobs. They have lots of activities that he can choose to do if he would like. When we visit all staff are friendly and welcoming and they have loads of things planned that families can get involved in which we like. It's been great for us as a family knowing he is safe and cared for.

My uncle went to Shipley Manor initially for respite care just before Christmas but due to a deterioration in his heath he is still at the home as my aunt is unable to look after him at home. My uncle is receiving excellent care from the staff and it's clear that staff have built good relationships
not only with my uncle but with the rest of the family, they keep my aunt and cousins updated with any changes in his health. He always looks well presented and when awake and alert he seems very happy. The home itself is always well presented, smells nice and there's always lots of activities going on to keep the residents happy and engaged as much possible.

My stepmother went into St Marys on the 14/1/26 after being in a hospice. The care she received was amazing! As a family we couldn't fault anything about St Mary's, nothing was ever to much trouble. All the staff from nurses, care assistant, domestic staff, catering, office staff, management team etc
were fantastic. It was a big move for my step mum who was feeling very anxious about it. She was welcomed by all staff, they couldn't have been any kinder. As busy as the staff were they always took the time to speak to us and deal with any queries we had. They took care of her every need with such compassion and always a smile on their faces. She was never made to feel like a burden when she was worried about. Sadly she passed away on the 22/1/26. The care at St Marys still continued towards us a family. All the staff were truly sorry for our loss, they couldn't have been any kinder. St Marys really did themselves proud, this is an exceptional place with exceptional staff 10/10.

I have been a resident in St Mary's for 3 and a half years and have usually spent Christmas with relatives, but spent the last one here. I was well looked after, and there were plenty of activities and entertainment, including choirs, singers, carols played by a brass band and a saxophone soloist. Father
Christmas visited everyone, and there was also a Christmas party with lovely food and drinks. We are now looking forward to Spring so we can sit in the garden and hopefully enjoy the sunshine.
