Mum has been in St Marys for over 4 yrs, and she has had many ups and downs in her medical journey (Alzheimers, Depression, Psychosis); St Marys has made it possible for us to get through this as a family, and for Mum to have amazing care as we progressed. The staff are fantastic - always willing to
go the extra mile, ensuring Mum is safe, loved and engaged, but also have empathy and manage her many ups and downs. They are open to feedback, take time to speak to us, and often chase up things from local GP and other hospital visits to make sure Mum is taken care of. I like the way the team are committed to their patients, and know all the residents well, and ensure that they feel part of the community. Its so hard to have a loved one cared for by others, but the St Marys team make this so much easier. We will always be grateful for the many staff - Alys, Louise, Sophie, Jo, and the rest of the team who are so wonderful with Mum. Long may they be there!

St Mary's Lodge Care Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My husband came into St Mary's Lodge in May, as by then I was really struggling to meet his care needs (on my own at home) due to my own health issues. For over 5yrs he would not engage with any of the Mental Health Team's efforts for social activities or carers coming to the home etc. so we knew going
into a residential home would be a massive challenge. After a lot of researching we took him for a visit to St Mary's, we all thought it was lovely, the residents seemed happy, relaxed and cared for, the staff were friendly and down to earth.
I'm happy to say my husband settled so well at St Mary's Lodge, he says he's happy and he likes it there and to my relief he hasn't been asking to come home, even after hospital stays he was happy to return there. It's such a weight lifted off my shoulders and heart ~ Big thanks to all the lovely staff.

I did my homework to find the perfect home for mum and absolutely found it. The staff are amazing...they are happy, full of fun, a close team who really care...evident as soon as you walk in the lovely immaculate building which has the freshness of a hotel rather than a home.
It amazes me how the staff
are always giving 100% in what is clearly a difficult emotional and taxing job to do.
It is an agonising decision to move your loved one out of their home when you know it's the right thing to do so it's so important you get it right.
I absolutely did !

I moved my mum into St Mary's Lodge in January following the loss of my step father. They had had a live-in carer but it became too difficult for her to remain at home without her "rock". I visited several care homes before choosing St Mary's Lodge because my mother suffers from both vascular dementia
and severe mobility problems. Within days mum kept repeating that she couldn't be in a nicer place. She loves her room and the staff are all just so friendly. When I compare her care situation to my friends' parents it's clear that she and I are very fortunate to have found a room at the Lodge. Mum's happier than she has been for while and I know that she's getting the best care possible. A huge thank you to all the care team!

Having visited many care homes previously, this is home goes above and beyond with everything, even the car park.
The greeting you receive when you arrive, always smiling happy.
Big open areas, floor to ceiling windows and doors, so many activities varying day to day.
the luxurious soft furnishings,
the dining room all white table cloths with polished cutlery, with plenty of room at the table, ( not squashed in) looking out into the garden
All food is cooked fresh on the premises,
The laundry is also done in house, hair and beauty room, a lounge area for visiting family and friends Every theme day is catered for, remembrance, St George, Yorkshire etc.
I can't say enough positives, and haven't found anything negative.
The care, compassion, respect, support and professionalism is a credit to all involved in caring for my friend
I laugh with the staff and say I'm going to book myself in.
It's the best I've seen.

My mother has a lovely room & bathroom, which is kept clean & tidy for her. The care given by EVERY member of staff is incredibly cheerful, helpful, polite & very caring (from management to domestic). The food is fresh, appetising & nutritious. Strict security levels are observed at all times. All staff
are polite to visitors and nothing seems too much trouble for them (all of them). The management team answer all questions and are an enormous help to nervous newcomers & their families

From the first moment we were shown around we were very impressed with the whole set up. The quality of the building and facilities is 1st class, the cleanliness is of the highest standard. One lady was amazing with her support and knowledge and the way she worked with the council to help them arrange
the financial side was brilliant. The move for mum into the home was very smooth and completely stess free. Mum has settled in wonderfully well and is very very happy there. Thank you so much for everything.

For our family, the most important quality in any form of dementia care is kindness. Whether my mum is engaging with someone cleaning her room, or getting her dressed, she is constantly telling me that everyone is very kind. Within a week or two, everyone knew her name (and mine) which was very reassuring.
The senior nurses are very professional and helpful and have a deep understanding of dementia. Paramedics visit every week and a Pharmacist calls to discuss changes in medication - these services are excellent. They are two individuals in charge of activities who have endless enthusiasm, recently introducing a series of raised containers for vegetables and some flowers. The home dog is loved by all. A suggestion for improvement, is that there should be access to a minibus for outings. This would be a very important addition to the mental well-being of residents who call St Marys their home.

My Dad has been a resident at St Mary's Lodge for the last 2 months having been a resident in a specialist unit for nearly 2 years, I cannot thank the team enough for treating my dad with care, dignity and compassion from the moment he/ we arrived!! He has a very cruel type of Dementia and has many
other health issues going on. The team has gone above and beyond to make sure his needs are met in every way possible. The home is always immaculate ,food is super, the atmosphere is warm and lovely, the team create this, always working to make sure all the residents have the highest level of care, I know my dad feels settled and happy and is having so many more Lucid moments than he has had in the last years, this is only down to how settled and cared for he feels. The manager and her team are a total credit to the care group. All of the above has given my family a much needed sense of relief that he is in the best place possible. Thankyou all

It's been a few months now and only finding the strength to write this after my dads passing last October 2024, I definitely found the home understaffed and actually found my dad left alone for a number of hours and not monitored as much as he should of been, I think the last visit was actually devastating
as he had COPD and it took all day to call for a dr and when I got to the home at 6pm not even an ambulance had been called (which should of been called ) it took another 3 hrs and sadly my dad passed away, not the best experience we have had with the home especially the manager she has no empathy at all wouldn't have any other members of my family go in this home I do actually know when the home was the original one located at the front it was better , but when they had the big one built at the back of the old one they changed most of the staff and this was not good.
