My mum had 2 respite stays at Merriman Grange at the end of last year. I cannot recommend it highly enough. All the staff are friendly, kind & professional. The bedrooms and all the communal areas are beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. The food is varied and of a high quality and smaller
appetites are catered for. The activities program and outings are interesting and varied and residents are encouraged to join in but it is acknowledged that sometimes people want to have some quiet time and this is also OK.
Merriman Grange is more like a 5 star hotel than a care home - highly recommended in all areas.

Mum moved in last September. Although it took her a while to settle, the care and support from everyone at Merriman helped tremendously. Her room is amazing, and with all her personal bits and pieces, it feels like her home. The facilities are fantastic with a wide range of activities to choose from.
Mum particularly enjoys the minibus trips. All the staff are welcoming, friendly and caring. We are confident that mum is safe and well cared for, and no longer on her own. There is always someone available for a chat.

We are very happy that our mother is a resident at Merriman Grange. It is a warm and caring home with friendly staff and you feel welcome from the moment you walk through the door. There are many welcoming communal spaces, either to share time with visitors or other residents or to sit quietly with
a book or a cup of coffee. Activities to stimulate mind and body are provided mornings and afternoons and the staff encourage residents to participate but respect their need for quiet time too. The facilities are very modern, clean and of a high standard. The bedrooms are well designed, with plenty of storage and shelving for displaying personal knick-knacks. Overall the Merriman provides a beautiful, luxurious, friendly environment, which is exactly what we wanted for our mother's care.

I can highly recommend Merriman Grange. My mum stayed there for five weeks of respite care and truly loved her time there. From the moment she arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and consistently went above and beyond - especially the wonderful care team, who showed such kindness and compassion
throughout her stay.
There were plenty of engaging daily activities for her to enjoy, including trips out, which she really looked forward to. The food was of an excellent standard, and she also formed some lovely friendships while she was there. It was such a comfort knowing she was so well cared for, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Merriman Grange to others.

My mother became a resident of the Merriman three months ago, and it is already evident that the kindness, professionalism, and unwavering dedication of your staff profoundly enrich the lives of those in your care. Equally important is your compassion that extends beyond the residents themselves, offering
invaluable support and reassurance to their families and friends.
Reply from Jan Marples, Home Admissions Advisor at Merriman Grange Care HomeWe're very grateful for this feedback, thank you so much. One thing that we're all aware of at Merriman Grange is that the transition into a care home is a journey made by the whole family and circle of friends, as well as the resident. We keep that in mind during those early weeks and months, and try to ease any natural worries. Your Mum is an absolute delight and a much-loved member of our community. Thank you again.

From the moment we arrived at Merriman we were met with friendly and professional staff. The facilities are wonderful with spacious rooms but also plenty of activities or quieter spaces to enjoy. Every member of staff is friendly and approachable and it is clear that they all love their job and helping
the residents.
Whilst our 100 year old mother was booked in for a two week respite care and understandably anxious, as were we, as she had never been in a care home every effort was made to ensure that she was comfortable and nothing was too much trouble... even the 3.00am cup of Ovaltine on waking in the night.
The choice of food is outstanding either in the restaurants or in their own rooms and just the right amount of food for a smaller appetite.
Exceptional care and service from everyone made the whole experience very easy and we had nothing to worry about at all.

My mother was originally in a care home near to where she had lived and we thought that it was excellent. Having moved mum to Merriman Grange I can only say that this one is even better! The staff are wonderful, the facilities are lovely and mum is very happy with the move. This is a really exceptional
home.
Reply from Jan Marples, Home Admissions Advisor at Merriman Grange Care HomeWe're very grateful for your review - many thanks! Your Mum has settled really well since her move. Merriman Grange provides a luxurious environment backed up with professional and empathetic staff.
The move to Merriman was difficult for my father due to the loss of my mother on the day of his move, every member of staff was sensitive to this difficult time and have supported dad with understanding
and kindness.
The facilities are wonderful with spacious rooms, many communal areas for group activities as well as quieter spaces to enjoy. One is always welcomed by a member of the reception team on arrival. The care staff are all friendly, approachable and proactive checking all is well. The number of staff on duty is excellent which means they have time to talk to you and give each resident the attention they need. The housekeeping team provide excellent services with efficient laundry system and care of the all facilities.
The food offering is outstanding and staff check residents are coming to the dining room or happily provide tray service if individuals wish to eat in their rooms.

We were so pleased to find Merriman Grange having found it difficult to find a care home for my relative which ticked all the boxes. As soon as we walked in, there was the feeling of a 5-star hotel which continued as we met staff and saw the lovely decor and facilities for the residents, the bedrooms,
the lounges, the dining room beautifully laid out and the balconies and it went on and on!
My relative receives the kindness and professionalism she requires with patience and support to lead her life as she wants to. It is a great relief to find a home she can now call 'Home'.

My mum has been at the Merriman for 3 months now and we're really pleased we chose this home. The facilities are outstanding, being a purpose built care-home, and not something repurposed. There are lots of staff providing round-the-clock care, giving the home a very professional but friendly feel.
If I have questions, there's always someone available, and our requests have been actioned quickly. Her room is big, with a door onto its own patio, and when I visit we can sit there or in a cafe, a lounge or in the garden; we never just sit in her room. There's a minibus too and she regularly goes on trips out. The activities are varied, and the home have gone out of their way to cater for my mum's specific needs and preferences.

I have only highest praise for all of the staff and facilities at Merriman Grange. The admission process was friendly and professional with every request and question answered and implemented without hesitation. The home is equal to that of a 5 star hotel with amazing care, service and food. Every staff
member is friendly and approachable and clearly loves their job and where they work. The bedrooms are large, secure and beautifully decorated with many communal areas including outdoor seating, cafes and even a cinema! There are endless amazing features of this home. Our uncle was very nervous and hesitant to make the move to a care home, but if we had known how happy he was going to be here, we would have made the move a long time ago. Thank you all so much for looking after our uncle with such care and compassion. He is the happiest we have seen him in a long time.

My mum was very nervous and needed quite a bit of convincing to come into a care home. Upon her arrival, everyone made her feel very welcome and took the time to help her settle in. In particular, the Home Admissions Advisor provided exceptional service from our initial inquiry through to meeting my
mum on her first day. Mum had an enjoyable two-week stay and informed us that she was very well looked after by all the staff. She especially praised one of the carers and the catering team for their care and attention. Given her initial apprehension, it was a great relief to know she had a positive experience. She even mentioned that she would be happy to return. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at The Merriman for your kindness and support.

My mum moved to Merriman Grange soon after it opened, following the closure of her previous home. We have been so impressed by the team at Merriman Grange, from the support we received from the Home Admissions Advisor prior to mum moving in, right through to the General Manager, carers, chefs and the
housekeeping staff. Everyone has helped mum to settle in quickly and feel at home. Nothing is too much trouble for the excellent carers. They don't just provide care for the residents but you get the impression that they also really do care about the residents as individuals. They spend time with my mum and encourage her to eat and drink. The building has been beautifully designed. The rooms lovely and very comfortable. The environment is welcoming and immaculately clean. It really doesn't feel like a care home - more like a 5 star hotel. We've seen a lot of care homes over the past few years and Merriman Grange is exceptional. My mum is very happy there and I highly recommended it!

My mum has just moved in here and I've been hugely impressed so far. Attentive staff and lots of them, good food, beautiful decor and great facilities. The whole place has a really positive atmosphere and it's been a huge relief to know that my mum is in safe hands. It has the feel of a 5 star hotel

It is difficult to criticise Merriman Grange as a care home. The building is new and well constructed and is kept immaculately clean. The staff are a happy and contented group - they go about their duties is a clean and confident manner. They are well trained and nothing they are asked to do is too
much trouble. Additional tasks all completed efficiently and with a smile on their face and that effects on sound management. There are direct links with local medical authorities readily available for those who need additional care. My wife and I came here for the first open day and after a trial period of residence have decided this is our final home.

My mother decided she was tired of living alone, looked on line and decided Merriman Grange looked ideal. We arranged an appointment and met by the home admissions advisor who showed us around. The surroundings and layout are beautiful.I can't speak more highly of the attentive staff and facilities. They
are all caring and personable and nothing seems to be too much trouble.
The food is excellent which range of choices every meal. There are activities laid on most days which she loves.I attended the Easter Monday afternoon tea what a treat and the excellent VE day celebrations and enjoyed the afternoon tea laid on and the war time songs from the live entertainment The staff fully entered the spirit of the day, dressing up in the fashions of the day.Mum tells me she is so happy here making new friends and looked after wonderfully by all the friendly staff. Merriman Grange is a wonderful place. From the offset, the staff could not be more helpful from explaining how the process works to helping my Father settle in. On entering Merriman Grange you are in awe of the 5 star greeting you receive from the staff along with the first class surroundings. It
gives you the feeling of a luxurious hotel rather than a care home. The food is absolutely excellent having tried this first hand on the day that we settled my Father in. The most important thing is that the staff are fantastic, attentive, friendly, kind and compassionate but most importantly they are committed to catering for all of my Fathers needs.

(1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 81 registered maximum number of service users is 16.2, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

As General Manager, I am dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for residents, relatives and loved ones. I am responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the home, ensuring high standards of care and compliance with care regulations. I am passionate about ensuring the residents have a safe and friendly environment that they can call home.

I have over 15 years’ experience in the health, social care, hospitality, and luxury property management sectors. I lived in the UAE for several years and managed the Wellbeing Operations in the world-renowned Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai. My background in five-star service and attention to detail drives my commitment to delivering exceptional care and creating a warm, dignified environment for the residents and their families. I combine operational excellence with compassion, ensuring that every individual feels respected and supported.

Having lived abroad for many years, I’ve embraced different cultures and experiences that have shaped my love for travel and adventure. That was always on my bucket list. I thrive on pushing limits and embracing new challenges.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2025

As a Deputy Manager, I work closely with our General Manager as part of the management team. Previously, I was a Team Leader and the Deputy Manager at our sister home in Chichester, Lakeview Grange. I take huge pride in my role, leading the team to provide a high standard of care to our residents. We work closely with our residents' families, too, to ensure a flow of communication and support.

I have worked in the care industry for the last 14 years, in the community and within local care homes.

My family are very important to me, I have two beautiful nieces and nephews who I adore and try to spend as much time with them as I can. Need to mention Alfie, my 14-year-old dog. Alfie is such a good boy who has been by my side over the past 14 years.

If I am not spending time with my family and Alfie, I make time to listen to music, take long walks and visit the gym.

Job Title: Home Admissions Advisor Joined: 2024

As Home Admissions Advisor, I am the first point of contact for anyone considering becoming a resident at Merriman Grange. I work together with families and friends to ensure that their loved one’s move into our care home is as smooth as possible. Together with my colleagues, we provide support and reassurance to everyone involved in the process.

I also represent Merriman Grange in the local area, collaborating with local groups and charities to support our residents and the wider community. I’m very proud that Merriman Grange was congratulated by the Worthing & Adur Chamber of Commerce for our community engagement.

I joined the care sector in 2021 as a Client Liaison Manager for a Care Home Group, where I was responsible for helping families and residents navigate the transition into a care home. I have supported several homes across Bucks, Berks, Surrey and Hertfordshire. My aim has always been to deliver the best experience possible for those entering care. Now a resident of Worthing, I am delighted to represent Merriman Grange and Cinnamon Care Collection within Worthing and the surrounding communities. I have worked in front-facing roles for most of my career. I had previously managed customer service teams in both the private and charity sectors.

Moving to Worthing was prompted by the love of the sea. I like nothing more than a long coastal or cliff walk to help me switch off and reset. My main passion is live music and entertainment. I enjoy attending concerts, festivals, comedy and theatre productions. I’m a real foodie – mainly eating, rather than cooking – and probably watch way too many cooking shows!

Job Title: Home Admissions Advisor Joined: 2025

As the second Home Admissions Advisor at Merriman, I work closely with Jan to offer reassurance, guidance and support to families as they explore care options for their loved ones. My role also takes me out into the local community, where I connect with businesses, charities and local groups to build genuine relationships that enrich life here at Merriman Grange. I’m proud to be part of a team that strives to make every resident feel welcomed, valued and truly at home, while helping them stay closely connected to the community around us.

My Experience
I’ve been fortunate to work across many areas of the care sector. I began my career as a Dental Technician, running my own lab for 25 years, before moving into the charity sector as a fundraiser for a hospice and for two branches of Mind in Kent and West Sussex. From there, I found my way into care homes, taking on a Customer Relationship Manager – a position very similar to the one I proudly hold today. Supporting people has always been at the heart of what I do, and I truly enjoy building meaningful relationships with those I meet along the way.

About Me
I moved to Shoreham-By-Sea 3 years ago as I always wanted to be able to be close to the sea. I have been married for over 30 years to my wife, Helen. We have 3 children – well, adults now! – Ben, Josh, Ella and a small dog called Luna. I love walking with Luna and enjoy running 5 km up to full marathons.

Job Title: Wellbeing & Lifestyle Coordinator Joined: 2025

As Wellbeing & Lifestyle Coordinator, I’m passionate about creating meaningful, person-centred experiences every day. I love getting to know each individual’s story – understanding their needs, interests, likes, and life adventures – so I can help tailor activities that truly bring joy. Whether it’s through a shared smile, a heartfelt conversation, or a fun group session, my goal is to ensure every resident feels welcomed, valued, and engaged. Supporting wellbeing, building connections, and helping people live life to the fullest is what drives me every single day.

I have been working in the care industry for over 10 years, and it’s a field that truly holds my heart. My journey began after studying a Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification at college, which first inspired me to pursue a career supporting others. I started out as a Carer, then progressed to Senior Carer roles within residential care homes – building hands-on experience and forming strong, meaningful relationships with those I supported. About four years ago, I was offered the opportunity to become an Activity Coordinator – and it completely changed my perspective on care. I discovered just how powerful meaningful activities and personal connections can be in enhancing quality of life. Since then, I’ve proudly worked in Wellbeing & Lifestyle roles, focusing on creating joyful, person-centred experiences that empower residents to continue doing what they love, without limitations. Alongside my care work, I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Sociology. The Sociology aspect of my studies gave me a deeper understanding of the social and environmental factors that can impact a person’s ability to live fully and freely. This knowledge continues to shape the way I support residents today – ensuring they are not only cared for, but truly seen, heard, and celebrated. I absolutely love what I do. Seeing residents smile, share stories, and genuinely enjoy each day brings me so much happiness and pride.

I’m a naturally enthusiastic, bubbly, and warm-hearted individual who always tries to bring a smile to those around me. Family means the world to me, and I love spending quality time with them whenever I can. Outside of work, I have a deep curiosity about the universe – quite literally! I find joy and peace in stargazing, and I’m fascinated by astrology and space. It’s a hobby that keeps me inspired and constantly learning.

I also have a keen interest in true crime and investigative research. I enjoy independently exploring cold cases and learning about global criminal justice systems, which links back to my academic background in Criminology and Sociology. In my downtime, you’ll often find me watching documentaries or crime series – it’s not just entertainment for me, but a way to better understand human behaviour, social structures, and the world we live in. Whether it’s through meaningful connections at work or personal passions at home, I’m someone who loves learning, connecting, and making every day count.

Job Title: Hospitality Supervisor Joined: 2025

As the Hospitality supervisor at Merriman Grange, I am responsible for ensuring that our residents receive the absolute best service and experience possible in our beautiful new home. I oversee the dining experience and events within the home, ensuring that every detail is perfect and support the team in delivering a first-class service. I am passionate about hospitality, so I enjoy meeting new residents and helping them settle into their new home.

For the majority of my career, I have worked within the contract catering industry, where I managed the on-site catering facilities for corporate clients. Before my role at Merriman, I worked as Head Chef for a brand new care home, where I very much enjoyed the interaction with the residents, which has led to my interest in stepping into a more front-of-house-based role.

In my spare time, I like to cook, spend time with family and go for long walks in the beautiful Sussex countryside that surrounds us. I am a keen DIY-er, so I can often be found tackling a new project at home - some more successful than others!
