Merriman Grange Care Home

from S F (Daughter of Resident) published on 26 June 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our Mum went into Merriman Grange in February 2026 on a respite arrangement. We had looked at numerous care homes but knew that Merrimans was rather special as soon as we walked through the doors. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming; everyone genuinely looked happy to be working there. We
felt we were listened to and any concerns we had regarding our Mum's poor eyesight and how she would manage were put to rest. We left feeling very reassured that we had found the right, and best place.
Mum decided to stay after her respite came to an end. She had quickly made friends, which was enabled by the numerous and varied activities. Residents are encouraged to join in but there is no pressure. In the last few weeks Mum has started to personalise her room with some items from home. She tells us regularly that we couldn't have found anywhere better for her and that she is very well looked after and everyone is lovely.
Reply from Jan Marples, Home Admissions Advisor at Merriman Grange Care HomeSincere thanks for taking the time to share your experience. Thank you for the kind words. We love seeing new friendships form within the home. It's really heartwarming to see that sparkle in the residents when they get to know a few people and slowly find their feet. It's been a pleasure to get to know your Mum.

My father passed away on 1st Mat in The Gables (Michael) the carers were brilliant especially with my mum who was in the room next door. Dad had a horrible death over the last 3 weeks. The Gables team made it bearable to mum, brother Simon and Me!

Communication between staff and relatives poor. Housekeeping poor. Room not cleaned very often.
Reply from Thomasina Allan, General Manager at Rokewood CourtThank you for taking the time to leave a review and for speaking with me personally regarding your experience. I was sorry to learn that your overall impression of Rokewood Court did not reflect the high standards of care and service that we strive to provide. We appreciate all feedback from residents and their families and value the opportunity to listen and learn from their experiences. Although your wife's stay with us was relatively short, I am pleased that we were able to discuss your concerns directly. I would like to thank you for entrusting us with your wife's care and support during her stay, and I wish you both all the very best for the future.

Hartwood House Care Home

After being in hospital I was looking for a care home to provide some respite care for my Dad who has dementia. I can't praise Hartwood House enough. They made the transition from hospital to the home as stress free as they could and were so kind and reassuring. Hartwood House is beautifully decorated
and has lovely facilities, the garden areas are a real bonus as Dad loves to be outside. They provide a full itinerary of activities and entertainment too and Dad is certainly making the most of all the delicious food! Above everything else what really makes Hartwood House so special is the staff. You are really made to feel welcome and almost part of a family, they are all so warm and friendly and nothing seems to be too much trouble. Dad was initially booked in for two weeks but this has been extended as we love it there so much!
Reply from Charlotte Dean, Home Admissions Advisor at Hartwood House Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share your wonderful feedback.

We are delighted to hear that your father's transition from hospital to Hartwood House was as smooth and reassuring as possible during what can often be a challenging time for families. It is especially rewarding to know that he has settled in well, is enjoying the activities, entertainment, and delicious meals, and is making the most of our garden spaces.

Your kind words about our team mean a great deal to us. We strive to create a supportive environment where residents and their families feel valued and at home, so it is lovely to hear that you feel part of the Hartwood House family.

Thank you for placing your trust in us to care for your father. We are thrilled that his stay has been such a positive experience that you chose to extend it, and we look forward to continuing to support both him and your family.

What a beautiful home for my father to spend his last days , months or even years. He is happy which is the most important thing.
There are always many carers to go round and they listen .
The home is beautifully furnished and his room has many of his own personal possessions which are looked after
by the carers as they would be in his own home.
The home is clean and also smells nice , like your own home.
Outside visits are attended by a member of staff if one of us cannot make the appointment.
We are very happy with our choice of Dads accommodation.
Reply from Charlotte Dean, Home Admissions Advisor at Hartwood House Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share your wonderful review.
