Such a shame that we have had to move mom after 3 years of being at the Gables's. Staff are lovely and caring and have looked after mom really well. Shame about the management. Be warned about fee increases that are way above the average 6.5%. 8% each year she has been there even though her care needs
have not increased. When we asked for support it was non negotiable and non existent. She was just another bum in a bed.
Reply from Paul Turvey, Home Admissions Advisor at The GablesHi Abby - thank you for your feedback.

We are sorry to read that your experience ended this way, particularly after three years with us and your kind words about our care team. It means a great deal that you recognised the warmth and dedication of our staff.

We understand your concerns regarding fee increases. Like many care providers, we have faced significant rises in operating costs in recent years, including wages, utilities, food and essential supplies. Any fee adjustments are carefully considered and are made to ensure we can continue to provide high-quality care, safe staffing levels and a comfortable environment for residents.

We are disappointed to hear that you felt unsupported and that communication did not meet your expectations. This is certainly not the experience we aim to provide, nor does it reflect our values.

We thank you for entrusting us with your mother's care over the past three years and wish her every happiness in her new home.

A truely wonderful experience for both of us. From our initial contact with the admissions advisor we knew we were in safe hands. Such a caring, attentive and kind experience. Nothing was too much trouble and they treated mom with utmost dignity throughout. The carers were excellent, always kind and
thoughtful. It helped me enormously to have peace of mind whilst away on holiday. I had complete and total faith that mom was being well cared for. And that was priceless!
Reply from Paul Turvey, Home Admissions Advisor at The GablesThank you so much for your kind words Julie.
It means a great deal to the whole team to hear that both you and your Mum had such a positive experience with us. We are so pleased that we were able to provide you with peace of mind whilst you were away, as we understand just how important that is for families.
Your comments about the care, kindness and dignity shown towards Mum will mean so much to our team, who work incredibly hard to ensure every resident feels safe, valued and well cared for.
Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience, and for placing your trust in us. We wish you and Mum all the very best.

The Gables provides outstanding care. The staff are efficient, kind and genuinely interested in both residents and their families, which creates real reassurance and trust.
The home itself is beautiful - purpose-built, extremely comfortable and finished to a very high standard. The décor and surroundings
are calm, welcoming and clearly designed with residents' comfort and dignity in mind.
Having experienced other care homes over the years, I can say with confidence that this is the best care home I have ever seen. In the current market, it also represents excellent value for money given the quality of care, environment and professionalism throughout.
As a family, we feel fully supported, and my mother is being cared for with warmth, respect and compassion. I would highly recommend The Gables.

The Gables entertainment team have been trying very hard + succeeding to engage with my father, who has dementia. Encouraging him to join in with social activities + helping him. Also, the home admission manager was very helpful when I put in a special request to enhance dad's comfort. The carers go
the extra mile, persevering with day to day care under difficult circumstances.
Reply from James Skelding, Home Admissions Advisor at The GablesWe are delighted to hear that our entertainment team have been able to engage with your father and support him in participating in social activities. It is always our aim to promote inclusion, dignity, and wellbeing for our residents, particularly those living with dementia.
We are extremely grateful for your recognition of our carers, who work tirelessly and compassionately to provide high-quality care, even in challenging circumstances.
Thank you again for your feedback-it means a great deal to the whole team. Please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything further we can do to support you or your father.

Our Dad absolutely loves his new home! The care from staff is exceptional, the meals are fantastic, the rooms are gorgeous and kept extremely clean and the whole facility is like a 5* Hotel! The entertainment is wonderful with an extensive weekly programme for those who want to participate. Organised
activities include exercise classes and singers who visit to entertain the residents. The standard is extremely high! It was our Dad's birthday yesterday and he was presented with a large Birthday Cake made by the Chefs and everyone sang Happy Birthday to him! He was made such a fuss of. No-one is ignored and everyone is encouraged to join in with group activities. We couldn't be happier with the standard of care that our Dad is receiving from everyone at The Gables.
Reply from James Skelding, Home Admissions Advisor at The GablesThank you for your wonderful review. We're delighted to hear how much your dad is enjoying life at The Gables and that our care, activities, and facilities have made him feel so at home. I have been resident here for 6 months. During that time I have had several falls. I have always been treated with the utmost kindness and help, always very professional as well as helpful. There is a wide range of activities which vary to try to be more inclusive I never wanted to be in a care home
but I'm very pleased to be at this one.

Our loved one arrived at The Gables feeling very disorientated, anxious and distressed after a traumatic 4 months involving 4 weeks in hospital and 12 weekly in step - down, to say nothing of the trauma of a broken ankle, pneumonia (twice), several infections and ensuing anxiety and confusion - within
two or three weeks The Gables care staff had nurtured and cared for her so kindly that she has blossomed.
Reply from James Skelding, Home Admissions Advisor at The GablesThank you so much for your heartfelt feedback. We will be sure to share your kind comments with the staff who cared for her-they will be uplifted to know the positive impact they've made. My parents have been resident at The Gables for over two years. The staff are excellent and go above and beyond to accommodate my parents differing needs. The rooms are lovely - more like hotel accommodation - together with an interesting and varied menu. Plenty of activities are available to join

This place is special. From the wonderful caring staff, to the beautiful food served to residents. My dad has recently completed a months respite and he has left today having had THE best time. The activity schedule had him singing, dancing, keeping fit, testing his brain power with quizzes etc, the
list is endless. We initially attended a recent open day and was immediately impressed and knew dad had to spend time here. He settled in so quickly and every member of staff helped with this. It was an absolute joy to visit dad here and we as a family can't thank Team Gables enough. We can't wait for dad to become a permanent resident in the near future.

My mother was admitted to the Gables on 1sr of November. All the staff were very welcoming to her on our arrival, which reassured her. It was initially for respite but now it is long term. The home is very elegant and there is lot of activities going on everyday, unfortunately my mum is not able to
participate in it because of her Dementia. My mum is a fussy eater, despite this the head Chef is cooking her the food she likes. Despite the language barrier staff and management are going the extra mile to give her excellent care.

The Gables is a care home like no other. Our mum has been there since January after she fell. It is a huge decision to move into a care home, but the warmth, love and care shown to the residents is unparalleled.

The rooms are beautiful, clean and comfortable. The community spaces are welcoming.

But what makes the Gables outstanding is its staff.

Everyone you meet takes the time to look after the whole Gables family. There are daily activities, great food, a happy hour and trips out. And amazing care shown when residents need a bit of extra help or taking to hospital. Overall, there is a great sense of fun and joy in life.

Thank you all for the fantastic job you do xx

My husband who has both cognitive and physical issues has stayed at The Gables and its sister home Parkfield Grange several times over the last three years.
I believe that it is exceptional in terms of environment and services.
The onsite management team are kind, and care. They set and deliver
the values.
The meals are nutritious; the care staff who have been there since it opened are caring, proactive and responsive. Some of their newer recruits need to grow into their role; some empathy training maybe.
I have visited other nearby care homes and none come anywhere close!

We had looked at several care homes in the area for my mother. Have to say as this was our first time of having to do this we found it quite depressing until we visited The Gables. From the moment we walked in you felt this was something different, something special, we were not disappointed. Friendly,
professional staff no signs of panic, a nice welcoming calm environment which is exactly what we wanted for Mom. First class care and facilities, it's a shame that not all persons needing care have the funds to be able to stay in a superb place like this. We would like to thank all the staff we have met for making my mother's transition stress-free and very welcoming. Keep up the good work.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.858)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.858) out of 10 for The Gables is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.858 for The Gables is calculated as follows: ( (234 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 261 Ratings = 4.858
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Gables is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Operations Manager

I am passionate about providing the highest standards of care and support to the people who choose to live with us, and ensuring that my team operate at the same level. It is a real privilege to care for your loved one, and my whole purpose is to ensure that we aim to be the best at what we provide.

My Experience
I count myself fortunate to have gained so much valuable experience. My career in care started many years ago at the age of 16. By profession, I am a qualified Social Worker and have managed a wide range of community services, as well as residential and nursing homes. This role means I have worked with older people, people with a learning difficulty, people living with dementia and supporting people who are at the end of their life.

In my last role with Cinnamon Care Collection, my care home was rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, of which I am immensely proud. Throughout my career, I have met, cared for, and worked with some amazing people who have taught me so much.

About Me
My family and friends will say I am a bit of a workaholic, highly competitive and a perfectionist who won’t take second best in anything.

My family live in the North, so travelling to see them and my grandson is always a priority.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, theatre and walking my two dogs.

I take great pride in embodying the company's Visions and Values and always remind the team that it’s important to make a difference. Since being at The Gables, I have developed strong professional bonds and relationships with both our residents and their families, and I like to consider myself the first port of call if they ever need any support or if they want to discuss any concerns they may have. MY EXPERIENCE: I have worked in the care industry since leaving college in 2006 after gaining my qualifications in Health and Social Care. I was very fortunate to pass to go on to study at University and got offered a place to study Midwifery. However, I thought, why not have a year or two out and gain some real hands-on experience first to see what the world has to offer? I then went and got my first job in a care home at 18 years old as a care assistant and instantly fell in love with what this career had to offe,r and never looked back. I started my career as a Care Assistant and then over the years progressed to a Senior Carer, Team Leader, Deputy Manager, and I was also very fortunate to hold the position of Acting Care Manager in one of the homes I worked at. Over the years, I have gained all the relevant qualifications needed to enable me to fulfil my roles, this being my NVQ2 and 3 and Level 5 Diploma in Management.

ABOUT ME: I am married and have a teenage daughter, and when I am not at work, I enjoy nothing more than spending quality time with my little family. When I was younger, I used to be an experienced horse rider and competed in many shows across the county but I gave this up when I went to college. However, recently, my daughter has taken an interest in horse riding, so I have taken the plunge after all these years and got back in the saddle, and we both have riding lessons each week. I also enjoy travelling to different countries and learning about different cultures, and am in my element on a girls' day out, clothes shopping.

I understand that this can often feel like a big and sometimes overwhelming decision, so I aim to provide clear, honest guidance and reassurance throughout, helping people feel informed and comfortable every step of the way.

I take the time to listen and understand each person’s situation, offering support that feels personal and considered, and helping to find the right approach for their individual needs.

A key part of my role is also building meaningful relationships within our local community. My background in care has given me a strong understanding of what good support looks like in practice, and I hope this helps people feel confident that they are in safe and experienced hands.

ABOUT ME: I enjoy spending time with my family and my loving partner, and we have a miniature dachshund called Flynn, who keeps us busy and always brings plenty of smiles.
