Where do I start? From the moment I contacted staff at The Gables (in a crisis situation) they have been amazing!
My mother-in-law was transferred to the Gables after having a very poor experience in a step-down care home placement following a hospital admission.
The process of her being assessed
and accepted for respite was so efficient minimising further distress of remaining where she was.
Staff are so fantastic at The Gables that she has decided she doesn't want to leave and is now a permanent resident! We always feel so welcome visiting her, like home from home. Friendly faces, supportive and understanding.
The activities are really engaging and varied with what appears to be something different going on every day.
The food is amazing and we have enjoyed a special dining with our relatives for the first time in 4 years thanks to the environment. So much more to say but no space - simply thank you!
Reply from Emily Hocking, Home Admissions Advisor at The GablesIt has been a pleasure to help your mother-in-law and wider family in settling into life at The Gables. It's so great to hear about how, not just your mother-in-law, but the whole family is able to share and enjoy experiences across the home. Thank you for taking the time to share such kind words, I will take great pleasure in sharing this feedback with our whole team.

It is just a second visit to my friend, I have had experience visiting several homes and this one is especially top of the list. Could not wish to end days in any better care. May it continue.

Our father went to The Gables Care Home for two weeks of respite. From the initial home visit to the final day's stay, all staff involved showed professionalism, care, interest and treated Dad with respect which enabled him to settle quickly and to be 'home from home' with all the additional support
required. There was always a lovely atmosphere of care, calm and happy chatter, with activities planned to keep residents active and involved. The food was excellent too! Lots of effort went into making the 'Coronation party' a truly happy celebration for residents and their families.
Reply from James Skelding, Home Admissions Advisor at The GablesWe are so pleased that your fathers stay with us was a happy one. The whole team at The Gables make a lot of effort to ensure that residents and their friends and families receive the highest standards of care. Your comments are much appreciated.

The facility is fantastic and all of the staff are amazing. Aunty made her transition to the home from out of the area and this was well managed, they were sensitive and reassuring to my aunty. The deputy visited Aunty in her previous care setting, despite it being over four hours away and involving
an overnight stay. We are grateful that the transition was effectively managed and we felt very informed at every step. The staff are kind, caring and compassionate and communicate effectively at every level with residents, families and each other to ensure everyone is kept informed. Staff actively listen and respond to my aunty and treat her with the utmost respect. Aunty loves the activities and outings in the minibus and has loved having the companionship of the puppy that is in training to be a therapy puppy. We couldn't be more pleased with the care Aunty receives and thank all staff for their tireless efforts in keeping Aunty safe and well and meeting her every need.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.858)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.858) out of 10 for The Gables is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.858 for The Gables is calculated as follows: ( (234 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 261 Ratings = 4.858
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Gables is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Operations Manager

I am passionate about providing the highest standards of care and support to the people who choose to live with us, and ensuring that my team operate at the same level. It is a real privilege to care for your loved one, and my whole purpose is to ensure that we aim to be the best at what we provide.

My Experience
I count myself fortunate to have gained so much valuable experience. My career in care started many years ago at the age of 16. By profession, I am a qualified Social Worker and have managed a wide range of community services, as well as residential and nursing homes. This role means I have worked with older people, people with a learning difficulty, people living with dementia and supporting people who are at the end of their life.

In my last role with Cinnamon Care Collection, my care home was rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, of which I am immensely proud. Throughout my career, I have met, cared for, and worked with some amazing people who have taught me so much.

About Me
My family and friends will say I am a bit of a workaholic, highly competitive and a perfectionist who won’t take second best in anything.

My family live in the North, so travelling to see them and my grandson is always a priority.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, theatre and walking my two dogs.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2021

WHAT I DO: In my role as Deputy Manager, I have a duty to support both the General and Care Services Manager in setting the standards for the home. I also work closely alongside the Senior Carers and Care Team out on the floor to ensure there is excellence in resident care. I pride myself on being a visual manager, and my top goal is to achieve Outstanding care for our residents with the support and dedication of our fabulous care team. I take great pride in embodying the company's Visions and Values and always remind the team that it’s important to make a difference. Since being at The Gables, I have developed strong professional bonds and relationships with both our residents and their families, and I like to consider myself the first port of call if they ever need any support or if they want to discuss any concerns they may have. I also need to ensure that the home meets the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety, the requirements of CQC and the company's own Aims and Objectives. Part of my role is to also provide the team with training, and I am fortunate to also hold the position of the home's Train the Trainer in Moving and Handling and PCS Training.

MY EXPERIENCE: I have worked in the care industry since leaving college in 2006 after gaining my qualifications in Health and Social Care. I was very fortunate to pass to go on to study at University and got offered a place to study Midwifery. However, I thought, why not have a year or two out and gain some real hands-on experience first to see what the world has to offer? I then went and got my first job in a care home at 18 years old as a care assistant and instantly fell in love with what this career had to offe,r and never looked back. I started my career as a Care Assistant and then over the years progressed to a Senior Carer, Team Leader, Deputy Manager, and I was also very fortunate to hold the position of Acting Care Manager in one of the homes I worked at. Over the years, I have gained all the relevant qualifications needed to enable me to fulfil my roles, this being my NVQ2 and 3 and Level 5 Diploma in Management.

ABOUT ME: I am married and have a teenage daughter, and when I am not at work, I enjoy nothing more than spending quality time with my little family. When I was younger, I used to be an experienced horse rider and competed in many shows across the county but I gave this up when I went to college. However, recently, my daughter has taken an interest in horse riding, so I have taken the plunge after all these years and got back in the saddle, and we both have riding lessons each week. I also enjoy travelling to different countries and learning about different cultures, and am in my element on a girls' day out, clothes shopping.

Job Title: Home Admissions Advisor Joined: 2026

WHAT I DO: I am the Home Admissions Advisor at The Gables, and I joined the team in 2026. In my role, I support and guide individuals and families who are exploring care options, whether for themselves or a loved one. I understand that this can often feel like a big and sometimes overwhelming decision, so I aim to provide clear, honest guidance and reassurance throughout, helping people feel informed and comfortable every step of the way.

I take the time to listen and understand each person’s situation, offering support that feels personal and considered, and helping to find the right approach for their individual needs.

A key part of my role is also building meaningful relationships within our local community. We are passionate about ensuring the people living at The Gables remain connected, involved, and able to continue enjoying the things that matter most to them. Creating opportunities that celebrate individuality and enrich daily life is something we place great importance on, and it is a privilege to be part of that.

MY EXPERIENCE: I started my career in health and social care at the age of 18, beginning as a care assistant. From there, I developed a real passion for supporting people and progressed through the roles of deputy and then home manager, gaining valuable experience at every stage along the way.

During this time, I also completed my Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care Management, which helped to further strengthen my knowledge and understanding of high-quality care and leadership.
I have now moved into my current role as Home Admissions Advisor, which brings together everything I have learned throughout my career. It allows me to continue working closely with people, supporting individuals and families as they make important decisions about care, and ensuring they feel listened to, informed and reassured throughout the process.

My background in care has given me a strong understanding of what good support looks like in practice, and I hope this helps people feel confident that they are in safe and experienced hands.

ABOUT ME: I enjoy spending time with my family and my loving partner, and we have a miniature dachshund called Flynn, who keeps us busy and always brings plenty of smiles.

Outside of work, I am actively involved in my local amateur dramatic society, where I also direct productions. Recent shows have included Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Legally Blonde and Elf, which is something I am very passionate about and really enjoy being part of.

WHAT I DO: I am the Head Chef at The Gables, where I manage and lead a team of six. I design seasonal menus centred around fresh, high-quality produce, allowing me to tailor dishes to our residents’ individual needs and preferences. Getting to know our residents is a key part of my role, as I believe great food plays a huge part in making their time with us relaxing, enjoyable, and memorable. My aim is for dining at The Gables to be one of the true highlights of their day.

MY EXPERIENCE: Being a Chef has been a lifelong career for me. I trained in France, Italy, and Texas, and have worked in Michelin-listed restaurants as well as hotels across Cornwall and the Cotswolds. I have a particular passion for patisserie and have been fortunate to receive several accolades for my cooking over the years.

ABOUT ME: I grew up in and around Worcester in a traditional family. My mother, who was from the Black Country, taught me my first recipes — many of which I still use today. I have two daughters who are now becoming accomplished cooks themselves, and I enjoy passing down the knowledge and love of food that was shared with me.

Job Title: Wellbeing & Lifestyle Lead Joined: 2026

WHAT I DO: I absolutely love working at The Gables as the Wellbeing and Lifestyle Lead because every day is different, and every day brings an opportunity to make a positive difference in someone's life.

Not only do I value the residents, but the families, too. Families are such an important part of a resident’s life. I love seeing families join in with activities, celebrations, special events and visits.

My Role is making sure the residents I am meeting their needs and values. To make sure they’re staying active, connected and independent.

This could be anything from chair- based exercises, movement classes, games, music, reminiscence activities, one-to-one interaction, or simply just sitting down, having a drink and a nice chat to get to know one another.

I support both physical and emotional well-being. My main focus is to make sure the residents are building confidence as well as ensuring the families that they are being well looked after.

MY EXPERIENCE: I have worked at 3 care homes before starting at the Gables. The one home I previously worked at, I did 5 years there and can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed it and met some great people.

Working in a care home has shown me just how powerful meaningful activities can be. It’s taught me so much about the Residents and their Dementia and how every person experiences dementia differently.

ABOUT ME: I enjoy my fitness; I go to the gym and enjoy doing people's hair & make-up. I am a self-taught/qualified make-up Artist and have been doing this since I was 17; it’s something I am very passionate about.
I enjoy the gym, running, and being sociable with my friends. I am a very family-oriented person, love people’s company.

I have always enjoyed going to the gym; it gives me a sense of achievement, improves my well-being, and helps me stay physically and mentally strong. I feel like the gym is a good challenge for me and helps me when it comes to doing my job. I feel more positive in myself.
