The Gables is fantastic. Like a luxury hotel. Unfortunately, my aunt is very poorly and so hasn't really been able to take advantage of many of the things it has to offer. She is probably more reliant on the staff than most other residents but they are looking after her well. Recently her condition
has improved a bit and they have been getting her out of bed into a chair, which is a huge improvement compared to how she was when she first went in. When I visit, all the staff are friendly and helpful and my aunt seems to get on with everyone.

My aunt has been a resident here for a few months, and she has improved greatly, physically and mentally better. All the care staff are very caring, nothing is too much trouble for them to help her and other residents. She started eating and drinking with help and she is now sitting out and appears
a lot brighter, they are very encouraging to her and she appears happy staying here.

I came to The Gables following discharge from hospital where I had been treated for two broken arms and a mass of bruising following a fall down my stairs at home. My daughters chose the home as they felt I needed help with personal care and some pampering.
From the moment the ambulance dropped me
off, I felt a very warm welcome. I was shown to my room, very spacious and beautifully furnished with a large ensuite wet room.
The carers are so kind and helpful and have given me excellent care throughout, I’ve been here almost three weeks.
This is a lovely home, well appointed with many facilities, including a weekly list of activities if you wish to join in. Everyone is very friendly and I feel very at home here whilst I wait for full recovery. If you prefer to rest in your room that’s fine although there is on my floor a cinema, a dining room and a lounge.
Having visited people in other care homes whilst being the Parish Visitor for the church this is by far the best I’ve seen.

Dad was admitted to The Gables, Hagley, for a four-week respite stay. However, this turned into one week palliative care following his discharge from hospital. Staff at The Gables complained to the hospital about the deplorable condition he was in on his arrival by ambulance. Within only a few hours
of arriving at The Hables, Dad had been seen by the district nurse (twice), paramedics and an ANP. He had been registered at the local doctor's and a respect form completed. All quietly and efficiently managed by the staff. During the week that Dad was at The Gables his treatment was second to none and it was not only Dad who received excellent care; the family was kept informed and supported throughout. Dad was cared for with compassion and love and given the dignity he deserved. We cannot thank the staff at The Gables enough for that. Care at its absolute best.

Mum moved to The Gables in November 2023 and to date, we have been completely satisfied with the quality of care and service provided. The staff seem to be very happy in their work and this spreads to residents and their guests. It feels like a happy place and Mum, we, family and friends have been made
to feel very welcome. Mum’s medical issues are being effectively dealt with. The local GP practice that covers The Gables is a huge improvement on her previous GP. The activities are well-run and varied and the food is always excellent. The coffee bar and other communal areas often have a mixed group of residents, visitors and staff, so there’s usually someone to chat with if you wish. For Mum, the visiting dogs are a delight.

Even though my father was only a resident for a very short period of time, everyone at The Gables went out of their way to make him welcome and help him settle in and find his way around. Our lasting memory of him will be a very happy afternoon spent at The Gables celebrating his 94th Birthday. All
members of our family, including 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren were able to be there, he was in his element having us all together and gave a really touching speech, which caught us unawares as he was a man of few words, preferring to be on the edge of things rather than the centre of attention!

I would highly recommend The Gables. It feels more like a 5-star hotel than a care home and the residents receive the highest standards of care and support. The staff have been incredibly supportive of family members as well as attentive, compassionate and patient. My mother had psychological as well
as physical needs and was fairly young to be needing respite care. They ensured she received all the help from external medical professionals in order to get better mental and physical health. They really praised and encouraged her!

We have visited several times for Sunday lunch and it's been terrific each time. Lovely weekend staff, kind, happy, and helpful. Delicious food and particularly as our family do have dietary requirements.
The Gables is always beautifully clean and has a gentle and peaceful atmosphere. Residents are
cheerful and smiley and it's lovely to see them at visits again.
Thank you to your greatest asset - the staff!

My wife has found that it more than exceeded her expectations.
Room comfortable - facilities met her needs.
Staff have been excellent.
Only issue was the morning when they did not remind her to take her medication until late morning, and she had forgotten.
Would return.

Mom is very happy here. The staff are lovely and they treat her as if she were their mom. Couldn’t ask for more. Very happy knowing Mom is happy and so well cared for. It’s lovely that we are all involved as a family. We are always welcome and included in all of the activities that are on offer. It’s
so reassuring to see Mom engaging and enjoying the company of the other residents and she is eating so much better. Her room is beautiful and she is very comfortable in her environment.

My sister and I have been overjoyed with the care our mother has received since moving to The Gables in December 2022. The standard of care both personal and social is excellent. The range of daily activities is superb, the food, the cleanliness all is first rate. Every member of staff is kind and compassionate

In comparison to many care homes, I found walking into The Gables a very uplifting experience. The staff are warm and friendly, always willing to help, nothing is too much trouble. Since my friend became a resident I have visited daily at different times and noticed the care given is dignified and consistent
with individual needs. The care is of a very high standard with staff being friendly and supportive, day and night. My friend is happy and very contented. Meals are well-planned planned, look very appealing and nutritious. Well done to all staff for creating a homely experience.

Having looked at several local care homes, as a family, we decided on The Gables, as we’d all enjoy living in the lovely surroundings, with the delicious food and wonderful care. From the moment you arrive, you are part of The Gables family, residents, their family and all the wonderful staff. It’s
home from home, but with good company and activities taking place throughout the day. So pleased that Mum is where she is for her final years. Luxury on all levels. Thank you, Gables team.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.911)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.911) out of 10 for The Gables is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.911 for The Gables is calculated as follows: ( (260 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 282 Ratings = 4.911
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Gables is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Operations Manager

I am passionate about providing the highest standards of care and support to the people who choose to live with us, and ensuring that my team operate at the same level. It is a real privilege to care for your loved one, and my whole purpose is to ensure that we aim to be the best at what we provide.

My Experience
I count myself fortunate to have gained so much valuable experience. My career in care started many years ago at the age of 16. By profession, I am a qualified Social Worker and have managed a wide range of community services, as well as residential and nursing homes. This role means I have worked with older people, people with a learning difficulty, people living with dementia and supporting people who are at the end of their life.

In my last role with Cinnamon Care Collection, my care home was rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, of which I am immensely proud. Throughout my career, I have met, cared for, and worked with some amazing people who have taught me so much.

About Me
My family and friends will say I am a bit of a workaholic, highly competitive and a perfectionist who won’t take second best in anything.

My family live in the North, so travelling to see them and my grandson is always a priority.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, theatre and walking my two dogs.

WHAT I DO: In my role as Deputy Manager, I have a duty to support both the General and Care Services Manager in setting the standards for the home. I also work closely alongside the Senior Carers and Care Team out on the floor to ensure there is excellence in resident care. I pride myself on being a visual manager, and my top goal is to achieve Outstanding care for our residents with the support and dedication of our fabulous care team. I take great pride in bedding the company's Visions and Values and always remind the team it’s important to make a difference. Since being at Parkfield Grange, I have developed strong professional bonds and relationships with both our residents and their families, and I like to consider myself the first port of call if they ever need any support or of the pay want to discuss any concerns they may have. I also need to ensure that the home meets the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety, the requirements of CQC and the company's own Aims and Objectives. Part of my role is to also provide the team with training, and I am fortunate to also hold the position of the home's Train the Trainer in Moving and Handling and PCS Training.

MY EXPERIENCE: I have worked in the care industry since leaving college in 2006 after gaining my qualifications in Health and Social Care. I was very fortunate to pass to go on to study at University and got offered a place to study Midwifery. However, I thought, why not have a year or two out and gain some real hands-on experience first to see what the world has to offer? I then went and got my first job in a care home at 18 years old as a care assistant and instantly fell in love with what this career had to offe,r and never looked back. I started my career as a Care Assistant and then over the years progressed to a Senior Carer, Team Leader, Deputy Manager, and I was also very fortunate to hold the position of Acting Care Manager in one of the homes I worked at. Over the years, I have gained all the relevant qualifications needed to enable me to fulfil my roles, this being my NVQ2 and 3 and Level 5 Diploma in Management. I have worked for Cinnamon Care for almost 5 years, originally working at Burcot Lodge until I transferred to Parkfield Grange in May 2021.

ABOUT ME: My name is Amy, and I am the Deputy Care Services Manager here at The Gables Care Home. I am married and have a teenage daughter, and when I am not at work, I enjoy nothing more than spending quality time with my little family. When I was younger, I used to be an experienced horse rider and competed in many shows across the county but I gave this up when I went to college. However, recently, my daughter has taken an interest in horse riding, so I have taken the plunge after all these years and got back in the saddle, and we both have riding lessons each week. I also enjoy travelling to different countries and learning about different cultures, and am in my element on a girls' day out, clothes shopping.

Job Title: Home Admissions Advisor Joined: 2023

WHAT I DO: I am the Home Admissions Advisor at The Gables Care Home and joined the team in July 2023. My role within the home is to guide families on their journey into residential care, to work with the community and to showcase our beautiful home.

MY EXPERIENCE: I have recently moved into this role having been an estate agent for nearly twenty years. My time spent helping people to move home has given me a good understanding of how important finding the right place to call home is. My move into the residential care sector comes from personal experience with moving a close family member into care, which gives me a level of empathy and understanding.

ABOUT ME: Outside of work, I am a husband and dad to five wonderful children and a cocker spaniel called Max. In what very little free time I have left, I enjoy paddle boarding and going to the gym.

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2024

What I Do
I am the Head Chef at The Gables, where I manage and lead a team of six. I design seasonal menus centred around fresh, high-quality produce, allowing me to tailor dishes to our residents’ individual needs and preferences. Getting to know our residents is a key part of my role, as I believe great food plays a huge part in making their time with us relaxing, enjoyable, and memorable. My aim is for dining at The Gables to be one of the true highlights of their day.

My Experience
Cheffing has been a lifelong career for me. I trained in France, Italy, and Texas, and have worked in Michelin-listed restaurants as well as hotels across Cornwall and the Cotswolds. I have a particular passion for patisserie and have been fortunate to receive several accolades for my cooking over the years.

About Me
I grew up in and around Worcester in a traditional family. My mother, who was from the Black Country, taught me my first recipes — many of which I still use today. I have two daughters who are now becoming accomplished cooks themselves, and I enjoy passing down the knowledge and love of food that was shared with me.

Hi, my name is Sam. I recently transferred from Manchester to the West Midlands, where I now reside with my partner. I am delighted to join the Gables as the Business Administrator. My role is to support the General Manager by overseeing administrative, financial, and commercial functions at home level.

I have extensive Administration experience throughout my career and joined the private health care sector over 9 years ago. I have had the pleasure of working within Nursing & Residential Homes both in Manchester and now in the West Midlands. I have worked for different Providers, building my knowledge of the day to day running of care homes, whose sole purpose which is reflective of my own personal standards, is to provide the highest level of care whilst promoting, dignity, independence and ensuring that the care we provide is integral to each individuals personal choices, and that our residents are embraced and encouraged to continue to lead a fulfilling lives, whilst in the luxury surroundings where the Resident is at the heart of all we do.

It is a pleasure to work for a provider that demonstrates driving standards to be an excellent care provider, and who clearly continue to strive for standards no less than excellent. Staff like me are supported and provided with all the necessary training and tools required, enabling us to not only continue to develop our skill set within our desired area of employment, but to feel rewarded and confident that our Employer is equally as committed to staff as they are the people they provide care for. I am very excited for my next chapter at The Gables.
