  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 12 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Sunnybank House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.713 for Sunnybank House is calculated as follows: ( (103 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 143 Ratings = 4.713

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

The 4.417 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sunnybank House is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 12 positive Reviews (60 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 12 Target = 0.417

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Sunnybank House is a purpose built care home with individual rooms for residents, all with ensuite toilet and shower facilities.
They cater for ordinary residential, dementia and nursing care on 3 separate floors.
My mother has been a resident for 2.5 years and I have been impressed by the level of care and the friendly staff (from all departments).
Mum has good and bad days but is always well treated and every effort is made to make allowances for her moods, although I recognise she can be less than helpful on occasions.
I fully endorse both the establishment and the staff, especially the staff.

I cannot recommend this care home more highly.
My wife has Alzheimer's Dementia and has been a resident for almost two years.
The care she gets is exceptional.
I see her nearly every day and she is always well dressed.
The home is spotless throughout and the staff very welcoming and helpful.
They take great care to include her in the daily activities even though she cannot now communicate.
She settled in immediately she went there (after a bad experience in a previous home) and I know that she is very well cared for, which gives me great peace of mind.

Hello Ken,

I know I have thanked you for this very valuable review Ken, but just wanted to say it's been a pleasure getting to know not only Grace, but also becoming close to you too. Always good to have a friendly face around.

My Mother moved into Sunnybank House, on to the dementia floor, in September 2014 just after it opened. The staff were friendly and caring and Mum settled in immediately and was very happy. In the two and a half years since then, there have been five different managers plus a high turnover of carers and a change of ownership. Despite all that Mum received very good care and remained happy and contented. Sunnybank is always well maintained and clean and the food is very good and plentiful. Management and carers were always happy to discuss the care of my Mother with us if we had any concerns.
Residents have a variety of activities and entertainments to keep them stimulated and active. There is hope that the long awaited mini bus will arrive soon to enable residents to go on occasional outings.

My initial impressions of Sunnybank House on an unannounced inspection were very positive. It looked attractive, welcoming, spotlessly clean and extremely friendly. The rooms were a good size, well appointed with good furnishings. The general rooms were bright and cheerful with no hint of an institution. A greeting card from the staff welcomed my husband and he was quickly allowed into the family. All carers were kind and supportive. All residents were treated with dignity and as individuals. Everyone you encountered was similarly helpful and smiling. There were outside entertainers, parties and alfresco lunches when the summer weather was suitable when my husband's condition deteriorated he spent a brief period in hospital and his relief on returning to the nursing home at Sunnybank House was palpable. He received such loving care in the last week of his life, he could not have had a more peaceful end. I would have no hesitation in recommending Sunnybank House to anyone.

My mother had so much love and expert care in equal amounts at Sunnybank House. They took her straight from hospital in a terrible state and gave her back her dignity, re-gained her ability to enjoy life and nursed her lovingly until she passed away. What more could one ask of a nursing home? The staff are excellent, the ethos is one of dignity and enjoyment of life for the residents and the home is five star.

My mother moved to Suunybank House in November 2014. From feeling isolated in her flat, as she became more infirm, she immediately had the reassurance of kind and supportive staff, and the company of others. The rooms are spacious with large en-suites, attractively decorated and kept clean and fresh. The communal rooms are brightly decorated and activities are organised on all three floors for a change of scene. Family and visitors are always welcomed.

The daily activities include crafts such as making cards, painting, cooking and physical activities, such as simple ball games etc. which can cause much merriment. Of course, these activities are purely voluntary. Regular visits by a variety of entertainers are arranged and there are attractive grounds for occasional garden parties.
I would highly recommend this care home to others.

Happy overall with the care at Sunnybank but concerned care has been affected in last month due to loss of staff, appear to be understaffed at times and carers very pushed to give residents their full attention and do have a lot of needy residents, so feel this needs to attended to. Carers however do their upmost and always very helpful and friendly.

Clean and filled with lovely furniture in shared community rooms with matching furniture in bedrooms. Very comfortable with a number of activities available to residents with a neat garden. The staff have gone out of their way to get to know the residents and treat them with a friendly, positive respect. The atmosphere is always good. I have no qualms about my mother being a resident here.

As my wife has A.M.D she doesn't get all of the benefits of the entertainment, but she seems to get on ok. All of the staff are very kind and the home is like a five star hotel.

Well designed purpose built home. Good size rooms. Food above average, activities above average. This is my mother's third care home only because, as her condition has deteriorated, others have been unable to cope. I mention this only as it validates my ratings, I can compare with others.
