As a family, we can't praise Abbotswood and all its staff highly enough. Our mother is well cared for and happy. From Lee (manager) to every member of staff we have seen and spoken to, we have been so impressed with the level of kindness and professionalism. We could not want a better place for our
mother to live.

Nobody wants their loved ones to go into care, but if and when it happens, Abbotswood Court, in my honest opinion nis as good as it gets. My dad used to own care homes, and they were of a very high standard. Ironically, he now resides in one, and I am happy to say that it is of the same high standard
that, as a proprietor, he expected. Well done!

We were faced with a challenging family situation where our Sister ,who has always lived by herself, was no longer able to cope in her home resulting in hospitalisation. As her home is totally unsuitable for safe living we needed to find a solution before being discharged from hospital.. The priority
was to place her in a care home that ticked all the boxes, was close to family and a home that we felt we would like to be in ourselves.. We identified five local Care homes and awarded them marks in our rating system. Abbotswood came up top with maximum points. Right from the start the Team were very helpful in guiding us through this difficult decision and by the second visit our minds were made up.
It took no time at all for our Sister to settle in at Abbotswood Court and she is able to receive regular visits from our family.. Did we make the right decision? Definitely.....
Thank you to all the staff and we look forward to being part of the Abbotswood Family.

From my very first visit with my mother who suffers with dementia, I knew Abbotswood Romsey provided every aspect of care my mother required.
Annya provided a superb introduction, detailing every provision.
Together with my mother, we witnessed rooms she was likely to obtain, restaurants, lounges
including the grounds.
In addition, we were introduced to other residents whom all appeared happy and content.
Staff also introduced themselves . It was as if they had known my mother for years !
Now I can confirm a decision was easy to make. My mother is an Abbotswood resident. Warm, engaged with numerous activities, well fed and well cared for with the very best attentive staff
Thank you Annya, thanks to all staff and thank you Abbotswood.

My mother has only recently become a resident, and we have been delighted at the kindness and professional care she has been shown. The communication with us has been superb, and we feel we can discuss all aspects of her care freely and at any time. Her room is light and airy, and a new 3/4 bed was
arranged as she struggled with the original one. All the staff are pleasant, efficient and approachable. We absolutely feel she is in the right place for her to be safe and have a great quality of life.

My mother in law went into Abbotswood Court Care Home initially for respite care and after just a week she liked it so much that she wanted to be a permanent resident. It's quite understandable - the staff are so nice, extremely professional, caring and attentive to the needs of the residents. Everything
you could possibly want. I am also impressed with their proactive nature to find interesting and enjoyable activities for keeping the residents engaged and happy from one week to the next. Thank you so much, it's such a relief that she's in such great hands.

Abbotswood Court gave mum such excellent loving care. Everybody smiles - is kind & caring and make the atmosphere so relaxed and friendly & just like a real home. From the cleaners to the maintenance man, laundry, kitchen, carers, managers etc. All greeted her by name & stopped for a chat & made her
feel so happy. Exemplary and I am an Adva Practioner in the NHS - so I can speak from experience

Mum was a resident for 2.5 years, during which time she received excellent care. The whole team are professional, caring, empathetic & showed Mum great kindness. Mum could be challenging on occasions but time after time, staff went the extra mile & more to meet her needs, always with tremendous interpersonal
skills & good humour. There were several occasions when she was ill & had hospital stays but she was always very pleased to return to Abbotswood, where her care from the team was outstandingly good. Mum was always commenting on how kind the staff were. From my prospective, Abbotswood took a great weight off my shoulders. I know she was extremely well looked after. I was always kept fully updated on Mum's health & care needs & on one occasion the quick thinking & professionalism of the staff probably saved her life. Abbotswood Court is an excellent care home, which I would thoroughly recommend & is why a second member of my family has recently become a resident.

My grandmother has lived at Abbotswood for 2.5 years and him that time I've seen her receive excellent care from dedicated staff who really get to know the residents and take time and care to best meet their needs. Repeatedly staff and the manager have gone above and beyond what I could have expected,
to meet my grandmother's needs, respond to her requests and make Abbotswood Court truly feel like home. I highly recommend them to anyone considering moving here, or supporting a relative considering moving here.
Her room is lovely, menu and food choices are very tasty, and there is a wealth of activities that can be enjoyed as well as sitting in the lovely gardens or accessing the local community. But it's the way the staff make you feel that really counts, always warm and welcoming, clearly capable, competent and well trained, and always taking the time to truly care for residents in the very broadest sense of the word. The manager provides great hands on leadership to a brilliant team.

The care received by my father and our family was outstanding. He was only in the home for 15 days before he died but he was treated as a person the whole time. Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.977)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.977) out of 10 for Abbotswood Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.977 for Abbotswood Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (422 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 432 Ratings = 4.977
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbotswood Court Care Home is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have been working in care for over 20 years and have held a range of positions from Support Worker / Carer to Registered Manager. My experience is with learning disabilities and elderly care, including dementia and palliative care. I love the satisfaction of making a positive difference, however great or small, in the life of someone less able than I am, at whatever stage of life they have reached.

Whilst working in care, I have been lucky enough to receive several awards. In 2005, I was the runner-up in the National Registered Managers category of the National Care Awards and a Local Hero Award for Outstanding Achievement in Care run by the Salisbury Journal and Spire FM. I am proud of both these achievements.

What I do

As Deputy Manager, I work closely with Lea as part of the management team. My previous role was Dementia Manager here at Abbotswood Court, and I continue to directly support residents and families of our dementia community. I regularly meet with our residents’ families and, with Lea, ensure families are as much a part of Abbotswood Court as the residents themselves.

My experience

Since completing my Master's degree in Person-Centred Care in Dementia, I have had 16 years’ experience of supporting people living with dementia across a range of age groups.

About me

I joined Abbotswood Court in 2016, and I strive to educate people, particularly families of those living with dementia, to recognise the positive impact of focusing on the abilities the person still has, rather than dwelling on the abilities they have lost. I am passionate about everyone being treated as an individual, continuing to develop the atmosphere of person-centred care at Abbotswood Court and encouraging my Care Team to achieve the best possible care.
