The level of care provided is exceptional. The food is amazing and always available if you want tea, coffee, cake. The staff are extremely caring and kind and the specialist dementia care provided has been a great comfort to us all, caring for our mum. Cannot recommend Abbotswood highly enough. Dad has had the respite he needs.

Mum and Dad spent the last 15 months of their lives together at Abbotswood, initially after Dad fell and broke his hip. From the start the standard of care was exemplary, with great attention to their detailed needs and consistent efforts to make them feel at home. Throughout the COVID crisis, a careful balance was struck between resident safety and the needs of family, made particularly difficult by distance in our case. Mum and Dad had nothing but praise for their carers, who looked after them with obvious love. We slept more easily at night, knowing that they were being so well looked after.

Please pass on my grateful thanks to your care team who have been instrumental in getting Mum onto the road to recovery. Individual acts of kindness have been noted by the family and really helped to raise Mum’s spirits as she recovered from a difficult period of hospitalisation.

Thank you for your kind review. It was rewarding seeing Mum get her strength back whilst staying with us for her convalescence, enabling her to enjoy now being back at home. We hope she remains fit and well. Love to her and your family.

Abbotswood looked after mum initially for some respite care while she recovered from a fall but which turned into end-of-life much sooner than we expected. It was obvious the care team really thought about mum's individual needs and tailored their care and support accordingly. The updates on mum and her care were prompt and thorough. The home itself is clean and very well looked after with good quality furnishings and the atmosphere was always very welcoming. My brother and I were very happy with our choice of home for mum's last few weeks.

I had been in touch with Abbotswood for almost 2 years whilst exploring options for my elderly and disabled parents as we tried to keep them in their own home with their increasing needs for support. The Home Admissions Advisor kept in touch with calls from time to time, which were much appreciated. When we hit a crisis point, she responded quickly to our need for urgent respite, and then to our request for a permanent move. Everyone at Abbotswood has been so responsive to and understanding of our needs, from each parent as individuals, to us, their family, and our needs too. The welcome is so friendly and when we have had queries or ideas we are listened to and they have bent over backwards so things are as homely as they can be - appreciating that such a move is never easy for an elderly person and their family. These are such difficult times in the care sector, I think they are managing incredibly well. I could not recommend Abbotswood Court any more highly.

Abbotswood Court was a very kind and friendly place for my mother-in-law to adapt to living in residential care after a fall broke her hip and exacerbated her dementia. Everyone we dealt with bent over backwards to accommodate her needs, to care for her, and to help her adjust. Without exception, the staff were kind, made her laugh, and retained her dignity. We took her out to be closer to our home 2 hours from Abbotswood Court but can honestly say we have struggled to find anywhere comparable.

Abbotswood Court is an exceptional care home. All staff, from the top to the bottom, carers, management and ancillary staff, are delightful and cannot do enough to make my mum feel safe and secure. Everyone is kind and have my mum's best interests at heart at all times, and they are all so so patient. Nothing is too much trouble. My mum's carers are always willing to talk with me anytime, should I have any concerns, as well as keeping me informed of any changes. All staff are of a very high calibre and she is allocated the same few carers for consistency and continuity. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Abbotswood Court for their 5-star treatment and care.

The staff are very competent, have learnt all our names and are very friendly. My room is very nice, with adequate storage space in drawers and cupboards. The bed is comfortable, sheets and pillowcases changed fairly regularly. I have my own radio but it's great to have the TV to watch in the evenings. It is particularly nice to have my own washbasin, toilet etc. Good lighting in the room.

My husband’s mum moved into Abbotswood the week before lockdown commenced. Every day we are grateful for the lucky timing. More importantly, she has settled in without a moment’s worry and that can only be down to the fantastic staff and their kindness, compassion and sense of fun. Although we have very limited visits at the moment (which we fully understand) we have no doubt that she is the happiest she’s been for a long time. Well done Abbotswood - you are very much appreciated.

We checked out all local care homes and Abbotswood is the best. Purpose-built. It's more like going into a hotel. None of those usual care home smells. The care is great, arranging and chaperoning my dad for appointments. Good activities, bearing in mind Covid-19 is limiting everything. The food menu is awesome and the social side is doing wonders for my dad. Fully adjustable beds and call alarms, necklace for help anywhere in the home. It's not cheap but none of them are.

I probably don’t tell the staff often enough just how much our family values the care and love they all show to our mother and the other residents. I do try to do this in a number of ways, but now I want to put it on the record “officially” not least because of the huge challenges that Covid 19 has brought to those who we’ve entrusted to keep our loved ones safe and happy.
Our mother who’s recently turned 93, has been at Abbotswood since October 2018. I can honestly say that every day we count our blessings that she’s where she is and being cared for with such love, compassion and expertise. Without exception, every single member of staff, whatever their role, plays their part in making her feel loved and valued as the individual she is. This has been especially important at a time when we haven’t been able to have the physical contact we would normally have with her.

We thank you all so much.

My mother moved into the home in June 2019 and soon settled very well into the new routine of Abbotswood and regarded it as "home" within a few weeks. Her general demeanour has greatly improved over the past months as she had problems with medical conditions living on her own. The friendly care and support of all the staff has helped her to relax and enjoy the social life of the lovely dining room and a very good range of activities. She enjoys the view of the garden from her room and sitting out in good weather. It's a pleasure to visit her and know she is in a safe and caring environment.

My mum has stayed at Abbotswood Court Care Home on several occasions for respite or recovery following a hospital admission. I cannot fault the staff, management or environment. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. She receives excellent individualised care and feels content and safe staying there. All the staff genuinely care for her and her well being. They know her and will gauge how she is feeling and what help/ care she requires. This includes the housekeeping and maintenance staff who, with great affection will fix her wheelchair.
The carers encourage her to eat and drink and the catering staff ensure she is tempted by the menu and meet her dietary requirements. The environment is ideal for a wheelchair user both inside and in the gardens. The activity staff work hard to provide a varied programme and encourage the residents to contribute to ideas.

It is expensive, but all Care Homes are and at Abbotswood, you know that your loved one will be well cared for and safe.

We chose this care home for our father when he became unable to live in his own home due to the progression of his dementia, because of its bright and airy rooms, the wide corridors and painted in different colours to help with orientation. His room is a good size and the ensuite well appointed. The staff seemed friendly and knowledgeable and this has proved correct. The senior or manager on duty has always been available to answer questions and reassure us when Dad's condition has deteriorated.

There are only two areas that make me rate the care home as less than perfect, one, the menus are a little repetitive although food is lovely and two, the turnover of staff is quite high at times, it's fairly stable at the moment.

Very good care home with well-trained staff who are friendly and caring. They work extra hard to ensure that there are both morning and afternoon activities for residents. Lunch and dinner menus offer a wide variety of foods.

This excellence comes at a price though, which can fairly be described as satisfactory at best, especially as prices have risen at six percent p.a. for the past two years.

We are extremely pleased we selected this care home for our mother.
The staff are really thoughtful, caring and friendly and do their best to make Mum feel happy at all times. There are often things going on to occupy the residents, maybe visiting singers or musicians, quizzes or crafts. The staff work very hard to include everyone. They also have minibus trips.
The meals are excellent, good sizes and very frequent.

The home is always clean and smells fresh.

What I do

As Deputy Manager, I work closely with Lea as part of the management team. My previous role was Dementia Manager here at Abbotswood Court, and I continue to directly support residents and families of our dementia community. I regularly meet with our residents’ families and, with Lea, ensure families are as much a part of Abbotswood Court as the residents themselves.

My experience

Since completing my Master's degree in Person-Centred Care in Dementia, I have had 16 years’ experience of supporting people living with dementia across a range of age groups.

About me

I joined Abbotswood Court in 2016, and I strive to educate people, particularly families of those living with dementia, to recognise the positive impact of focusing on the abilities the person still has, rather than dwelling on the abilities they have lost. I am passionate about everyone being treated as an individual, continuing to develop the atmosphere of person-centred care at Abbotswood Court and encouraging my Care Team to achieve the best possible care.
