My husband stayed for a week's Respite Care and; almost; does not want to come home!
Everything was exemplary and of course it is so re-assuring for me that he is happy.
We are looking forward to his next stay!

Barchester Mill Court Care Home is a very special place. My mother moved in last week and although it has only been a week, it feels like home. The staff are all very caring and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are well laid out and kept clean and tidy. The activities are carefully organised and
inclusive no matter what your disability. Families visiting are also made to feel at home.

My mother was the first person into the home and it was not an easy transition but she was very well looked after. However as more people have come in I feel that things are not running as well as they should. On the occasions when I have been with her when she has had a meal the food is very poor.
Soggy poor quality white bread toasted, re heated food and tasteless. Communications are not good either. I was rung up at 9.30 pm the other Saturday night about transportation for my mother for a long standing appointment at the hospital for the Monday. On other occasions I have had 3 staff ring me up about the same hospital visit asking me the same questions. There does not seem to be much communication between each other or system in place. This does not fill me with great confidence. My mother has dementia but seems contented and the care workers are amazing. I feel for the price we are paying per week things in the general running of the place need to improve hugely.

A wonderful, purpose-built, brand-new facility. The communal areas are well thought out, comfortable and modern. The rooms are beautifully finished with modern wet rooms. The staff were all fantastic. My mum enjoyed her respite week and settled very quickly. The food was also lovely according to Mum!
Thank you. I would thoroughly recommend this care home.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.117)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.117) out of 10 for Barchester Mill Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.5 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.617 for Barchester Mill Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (37 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.617

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Mill Court Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.25

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hi, my name is Wiktor Szala. I am the Head Chef at Mill Court.

With two decades immersed in the culinary world, I bring a rich tapestry of experience to the kitchen at Barchester Mill Court. My culinary journey has taken me through the vibrant flavours of English, Italian, and Argentinian cuisines. For three years, I proudly served as Head Chef at Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, crafting classic English dishes for discerning patrons. This was followed by another three years at Guildford's CAU Restaurant, where I honed my expertise in the art of Argentinian steakhouse cooking. My passion for Italian gastronomy then led me to London, where I spent two years as Head Chef at The Loft, an Italian restaurant nestled within Sky TV Headquarters. Most recently, my work as an Agency Chef in Surrey's care homes over the past three years has been incredibly rewarding. This experience has deepened my understanding of the importance of providing exceptional and nourishing meals. It is this insight and dedication that has drawn me to Barchester Mill Court, where I am eager to contribute my skills and passion to create the best possible catering experience for our residents.

I joined the Barchester family in 2021, initially as care assistant and soon after as activities coordinator. Thanks to our fantastic residents, management team and colleagues, I felt I belong to an amazing community here, in Barchester.

As in September 2024 I relocated from Harton Grange (South Shields) to Mill Court, in Guildford, I worried about letting behind an absolutely amazing management team, residents and colleagues.

I found here, at Mill Court, the same fantastic atmosphere and support from management team, residents and colleagues.

I'm so grateful that I had the privilege to fundraising for our wonderful Barchesters Charitable Foundation and I finished the Great North Run half marathon in 2 hours and 9 minutes. Also, through a joint project with a charity in South Shields we won a grant worth nearly £20k thanks to the National Lottery Funding.

I started my journey in healthcare in 2018. I love to support elderly people, especially those diagnosed with dementia, and to empower them to use all the facilities provided by our company. I completed a few courses on dementia and activities (NAPA, level 2) and I finished a level three apprenticeship in adult care. I have met some amazing people who guided my understanding of dementia.

I like to be part of a whole team, including the fantastic management, hospitality and maintenance departments, promoting a person centred approach for each resident and I'm glad to know that each person's preferences and abilities are respected and promo
