Bailey Lodge, it's facilities, it's staff, including Abi, Michael, Rebecca, Anna, Sally, Angie and the team of carers have been warm, welcoming and have provided my mother (Hazel) with the utmost care and dignity. Nothing has ever been a problem. My mother enjoys joining in with the different activities,
(including dancing!). Every time I visit, she's beaming from ear to ear. You couldn't wish for more as for us relatives, it's distressing enough in hoping we have done the right thing. Being able to visit, have a coffee, a meal or a chat is more than some care facilities provide. It's a wonderful, inviting place to be, I'd recommend Bailey Lodge to all those considering a safe, beautifully appointed facility. I simply can't thank them all enough.

I am delighted with Bailey Lodge - Mum has now settled in well and her room and outlook is lovely.
Food is excellent and the staff are caring and sympathetic to Mum's needs.
They were particularly helpful when Mum was ill with a chest infection.

I couldn't be more pleased with the care my father receives. Would recommend to anyone looking for care for a family member.
Also when we visit the cafe and bar areas are perfect for feeling like we're out out!

We reviewed many local options before selecting Bailey Lodge for a week of respite care for my Mother. The stay was hugely successful and Mum is now keen to return. We found that Mum's anxiety associated with day to day challenges completely evaporated while she was with Baily Lodge allowing her freedom
to enjoy herself.

Making the decision for my husband to become a resident at Bailey Lodge has been very tough, but the whole team have been absolutely wonderful in their support for us both. Importantly, my husband is sure he's getting the very best care.

My husband came to live at Bailey Lodge on the 19th February this year, He was in another care home for two years but when Bailey Lodge was completed it made sense to have him nearer to me as I live in Saffron Walden. He suffers from Alzheimer's and Vascular dementia. I was concerned that moving him
from one care home to another might be detrimental but the Manager of Bailey Lodge assured me that with their care he would settle in and he proved to be right. The carers are taking time to get to know him and understand his needs and because of their excellent care he has changed over the past weeks. He is talking more, he's happier, he enjoys the activities and certainly loves the delicious food. I have not seen him look so well for some time. Bailey Lodge has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, not only for the residents but for the families too. The care is exceptional and I would recommend Bailey Lodge to all those who are seeking a safe haven for their loved ones.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.064)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.064) out of 10 for Bailey Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.964 for Bailey Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.964
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.1 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bailey Lodge is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 14 = 0.5
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I am passionate about providing meaningful care to older people and ensuring that we make a positive impact on residents’ lives.

I have been a home manager for eight years and have a BSc Hons. in nursing, as well as a level five in health and social care. I chose to join Care UK because of its values and ethos.

In my role, you need to be patient, have good listening and communication skills, and be understanding. Being calm in any situation helps too.

I think my favourite part of the day is the morning. It’s a time when we can decide what to prioritise and how to approach the day.

A lot of moments stand out for me as highlights. I helped achieve an ‘outstanding’ rating for another Care UK home in 2021. I’m also proud to be able to support colleagues and share the knowledge I’ve learned over the years. It’s all about improving care and standards for the better, so residents can benefit.

Outside of work, I captain a local cricket team. I also enjoy reading and spending time with my family. My wife is also a nurse, and we have three children, so life is wonderful and busy.
