Lovely and clean. The rooms are beautiful especially the ones with their own patio. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much for them. All very helpful. I have recommended this place to a few people for respite care and also permanent residency.

Very nice place to stay. Staff very friendly. I think they could do with a little tea room were you could visit. As I have only visited twice I don't think I can say much more at the early stage, my friend has only been in a few weeks so I cannot really comment much more, maybe in the future when I
have visited more times.
Reply from Robert Blackburn, Head of Quality and Care at CastlewoodThanks you for the lovely words, we are grateful that our team have been recognised. We do have the coffee/bar area in Reception, you are welcome to a tea or coffee, cold drink from the fridge anytime you visit. There is always a stock of sweet treats available in addition.

The most restful 2 wks 'holiday' I have ever had! Thank you.
Reply from Robert Blackburn, Head of Quality and Care at CastlewoodThank you so much for the feedback, We are so pleased you had the most restful stay with us here at Castlewood. We are always open to both positive and not so positive aspect of reviews. I will endeavor to review why the star ratings you provided were less than 5 stars. We recently held a Residents meeting when food was discussed, we discussed the menu and changes are being made to facilitate peoples changing tastes as well as to incorporate seasonal produce.

We urgently needed to find our mother a care home and I can not praise Castlewood enough for the compassion the team have offered in such a short space of time. From initial call with administration, to the assessment with the manager and meeting the care team, everything was seamless and easy, which
is what families want in these difficult times. The building and facilities are amazing. The environment light, airy and feels like a home not a care home. The scheduled activities offer an enabling environment and although my mother might not remember after, she certainly engages in the moment, providing her with stimulation and giving her a purpose for her day. We know that our mother will not 'get better,' but I have no doubt the social connections she has had in this short period of time has improved her wellbeing both physically and psychologically. I would highly recommend anyone who is considering care for their loved ones to visit Castlewood. It is an amazing place.
Reply from Robert Blackburn, Head of Quality and Care at CastlewoodPlease accept our thanks for leaving such a wonderful review. Our team as a whole strive to support people who require our support and their families. We cannot always make people 'better' but we can encourage them to be the best they can be on any given day.

My only problem is that it is difficult to park and then walk down the long drive.
If possible to be able to at least drop off at the front door would be brilliant.
Reply from Robert Blackburn, Head of Quality and Care at CastlewoodThank you for taking the time to provide feedback to us, We have facilities to access the home via another entrance which doesn't require the walk down the path. This provides a shorter distance to the main reception. If you speak to a Mitchell the Home Manager when you next visit they can advise you how to access this. The home is designed to allow a community feel and allow the people living in the home to overlook the gardens from their rooms. We would be happy to show you to the accessible entrance when you next visit. Please do feel free to raise any issues with a team member and in addition the visitor sign in/out allows feedback on leaving the home.

When the time came for us needing a care home for my Dad, we instantly knew walking into Castlewood that this was the right place. The staff and the facilities are second to none and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Castlewood. The level of care my Dad received during his time here was exceptional and
I'll be forever grateful for this.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.427)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.427) out of 10 for Castlewood is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.843 for Castlewood is calculated as follows: ( (105 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 121 Ratings = 4.843
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.584 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Castlewood is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6. 11 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.6 = 0.809
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
