Manageress handles her staff well. She is extremely kind and friendly with patients and their visiting families, when asked, nothing is too much for her and the friendly staff to oblige, she treats all patients with kindness and dignity.

My sister was the youngest resident at Ocean Living, (aged 70), and lived there for quite a few years. She fell at the home and was taken to hospital with three broken toes. She was in the hospital for about five weeks as she had developed complications, which resulted in her passing away on May 28,
2022. The only time Ocean Living have contacted us was to ask us to come and clear her room, not how she was. This was even before she passed away. The home (although told), has not been in touch to offer condolences or sympathy. I do not blame the staff, but I blame the manager as he has shown no 'Duty of Care' as my sister was still a resident. All the manager was concerned about was if the home would be paid for that month as after a few weeks the payments would stop.
I find their attitude disgusting, for a home that is supposed to care for the elderly as their only concern is money-related.
Would I recommend Ocean Living, certainly not.
Reply from Craig Thorburn, Manager at Ocean Living

The resident in question was a joy to have and enjoyed her six year stay with us making many friends with residents and staff. We enjoyed many happy times together and was particularly good at quizzes sharing her general knowledge.
In relation to the review from her brother, we are very disappointed that he feels this way after taking such good care and focusing on person-centred care. After losing some mobility my involvement with both Physiotherapy, D/N, CPN and GP who all had input in her care plan, sadly she fell shortly afterwards.
We as a Residential Care Home have a duty of care and an ambulance was called and the resident was taken to A&E. The resident in question was not in a position to return as it would not have been safe due to her mobility as confirmed with safeguarding, this was the correct decision until such a time there was an improvement.
We were in regular contact with the ward, physiotherapist and discharge team we also made numerous attempts to call her brother without success.
We were then informed after three weeks via the hospital the resident in question had been assessed as nursing and as a Residential Home discharged from our care.
It was not until ten days later when her brother came to collect residents’ belongings that we were sadly informed of her passing.
It is regrettable to receive an inaccurate review and continue to provide tailored person-centred care with all care professionals and family involved.

We were very impressed with the overall welcome, everyone is very friendly and there is a positive attitude to the way the home is run.
Mum is settling in slowly, she particularly likes her new room with the spectacular sea view, she is also enjoying the homemade meals.
It is reassuring for her family
to know that she is being well looked after and that all her care needs are being met.

Mum went into Ocean Living on short term basis 5 weeks ago. Feeling very apprehensive she was made to feel welcome by staff and fellow residents. "The food is hot and tasty and is homemade", coming from someone who wasn't eating very well this was encouraging. Mum is now staying in Ocean Living on a
long term basis.
Staff are very accommodating and helpful to her needs.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.083)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.083) out of 10 for Ocean Living is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.750 for Ocean Living is calculated as follows: ( (9 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.75
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.333 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ocean Living is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 15 registered maximum number of service users is 3. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 3 = 0.333
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
