Overall, a very good experience. The standout best part of Askham is the staff. Without doubt they are very welcoming, very friendly and well trained to perform their job. Physio staff are extremely encouraging and their physio sessions were excellent. Often proving that using simple exercises are better than complicated machines. I arrived at Askham unable to walk and now can walk with a stick. Some things, regards facilities, are not so good, e.g., the automatic doors unfixed after a long time, the first wheelchair had no brakes that worked.

Our daughter was a resident of Askham Grove for ten months, recovering from a brain bleed. The care she received was excellent and the staff were kind and efficient. The rooms and grounds were outstanding and there were plenty of activities. Trips out to the local shops were also included.

My dad came here and he was in such a bad way when he left. He deteriorated so much in here. The urine bottle had faeces on it when he arrived, & there wasn't any decent equipment or even a suitable chair. The manager was very unprofessional. Do not send people here that you care about. There were no staff on the ward for 1 hour while they all had handover on another ward. My dad was calling for a commode all that time. He lost over 5kgs in 2 weeks and he left after 2 weeks with untreated & undiagnosed chest infection, dehydration and weakness. He said the place was ghastley.

My time in Askham rehab was a very productive time. My progress was made better by the occupational therapist staff and support staff. The staff who came and helped me every day were brilliant right down to the kitchen staff. Everyone has such a good aura about them. They make the whole experience very positive and even though at times it was difficult for me I still enjoyed being around them because of the whole team's positivity. I don't think I would have achieved as much without their support and the laughs we had. Thank you.
