My husband was a resident at Cary Lodge for 10 months until he died in March 2026 and I am very grateful for the care he received. The home, including the bedrooms, is well decorated, bright and airy. Many bedrooms overlook the lovely garden. The caring staff are all, without exception, kind, friendly
and very patient and respectful when helping residents, especially residents with dementia who sometimes exhibit challenging behaviour. Visitors are greeted with smiles and are always made to feel welcome. The manager is always available and is very approachable. The entertainer and the activities person are also friendly with both residents and visitors.
Reply from Cassie Foulkes, Compliance Manager at Cary Lodge Care HomeWe appreciate the lovely comment you have given during this difficult time. We are all sad of his passing as we were privileged to have cared for him. The team strive to provide the warmth we all hope to see in a home by providing the respect deserved to each individual.

The care given to my nan when she had to come in as emergency respite was amazing. My nan has dementia and would quite often get confused but all the staff cared for her with so much respect. Her room was lovely and she absolutely loved the food. Thank you all so much for everything.

Staff are always polite and helpful. Seem very respectful to all the residents. Not seen much of the management. Communal areas always clean and tidy and personal room also tidy. Mum seems bored and would like more activities.
Reply from THORNTON GOW-SMITH, Owner at Cary Lodge Care HomeReally appreciate the feedback, and to reassure about activities, we have just appointed 2 Activites Coordinators, and they are due for follow up training from my wife, as fellow owner. We've had a busy week with our Autumnal focus, including a Thanksgiving Tree in the lounge, to celebrate the Harvest Festival, with input from our residents, As well as our ongoing music sessions we promise plenty to do over the pre Christmas period.

The staff at Beechcroft, and latterly Cary Lodge, looked after my Mother with care and compassion for over six years until she passed away last month. Her needs were met in all aspects, and she was very happy in her surroundings. The staff at both establishments were friendly and caring and always
obliging on all my visits and nothing was too much trouble.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.278)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.278) out of 10 for Cary Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.819 for Cary Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.819
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.459 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cary Lodge Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 = 3.55
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.6 = 0.909
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager - Cary Lodge Joined: 2023

I joined Beechcroft Care Homes in June 2023 and was immediately inspired by the organisation’s commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care within a family-focused environment. In August 2024, I was honoured to open our flagship home, Cary Lodge Care Home, as Registered Manager, leading a dedicated team in our modern, purpose-built home.

Together, we strive to create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where residents can enjoy the highest possible quality of life.

With more than 16 years of experience in health and social care, I have held a variety of leadership roles, including within supported living services for adults with learning disabilities. Throughout my career, I progressed from Support Worker to Operations Manager, gaining extensive experience in leadership, safeguarding, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and service development. These experiences have reinforced my belief that exceptional care is built on strong relationships, effective communication, and empowering both residents and colleagues.

I achieved a Distinction in my Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification and remain committed to continuous professional development. My leadership style is approachable, supportive, and collaborative, with a strong focus on dignity, respect, and excellence. I am passionate about developing others, recognising individual strengths, and creating opportunities for team members to grow and succeed.

Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, cooking, colouring, completing word searches, and building Lego creations. Family is incredibly important to me, and in January this year, we welcomed two French Bulldog puppies, Leo and Theo, who keep me busy and entertained. I am proud to be part of Beechcroft Care Homes and excited about the future of Cary Lodge Care Home, our team, and the residents and families we are privileged to support.
