Escan Manor

My mother aged 101 years has been a resident in Escan Manor for 6 months. I cannot praise the carers enough. From carers to cleaners and management they have all been outstanding. My mother is completely dependent and bedridden. Staff treat her with the utmost respect and honour her wishes. As a visitor I have always felt welcome any time of day. It is truly heartwarming to see such kindness and compassion mixed with great humour. I am so, so grateful that my mother is being well cared for. Thank you all!

I sent an email after her death to the manager, thanking the home for the care provided, and received no reply.

My stepfather in law David was sent here after being discharged from hospital. I found all the staff very caring and helpful. I do not live in the area, but when I was unable to visit the staff kept me updated. (He passed away on 18 June 2026) I would like to mention two staff member Jenny (nurse) Amanda (reception). Thankyou for all your help.

My parents were both residents at Escan Manor care home. When Dad died in January they were so caring to us as a family and in particular to Mum who was still with them. The were very invested in making it as good as it could be for her, listening when she needed it and trying to get her involved in any of the activities of which she was capable. Mum died at the end of January, just 3 weeks short of her 100th birthday. She needed a lot of care, physically and mentally. The family truly believe that she could not have been better cared for anywhere. The whole team there are a happy bunch. They are all invested and interested in their residents. From the care staff, cleaning, catering, maintenance, reception and the management. Just thank you all.

My Mother may be heading for end of life, and the staff have gone above and beyond with the care for Mum and the support offered to our family. Some of these staff have been loyal to Escan through the changes in management and other staffing issues over the last two years. I hope Morar Living reward their staff accordingly and value their contribution towards what will hopefully be recognised as a 5 star care home. I believe CQC have recently attended and I do hope they publish the revised findings promptly - which must be good to outstanding based on how it is now. We certainly have no complaints and are very pleased Mum has had this time in her life at Escan Manor. Thank you.

My Wife moved into Escan Manor in April 2025, after spending 6 months previously in another Care Home, following a severe stroke. There have been certain problems at times, but these have been quickly resolved, and the Management have been very approachable and helpful. The Staff are both friendly and always willing to make life a little easier for residents. The rooms are very comfortable and the facilities provided excellent.

My mother has lived at Escan Manor since April 2025. She loves it there, and feels very much cared for. The staff are all lovely, and they go to great trouble to make life enjoyable and comfortable for the residents. Her room is spacious with an en suite bathroom, and large windows with a meadow view. They are sensitive to her vegetarian diet. Medical issues are swiftly attended to. The on site hairdresser is much appreciated, equally for manicure and pedicure. The central location is very convenient. Highly recommended

My mother has recently moved into Escan Manor and we have been very satisfied with the care received, surroundings and activities. We are working with them on a couple of minor things, one is wearing of name badges which is important for new residents and those with dementia and for following up with relevant staff for feedback; the other is around GP appointments and feedback of results and if visits actually occurred. All the staff are very friendly and interact well with all the residents from what we have seen.

Excellent purpose-built building with great views of Exeter Canal Basin and Haldon Hills. However, no garden but offset by good, large balconies. No sun protection on Mum's nearest balcony at time of writing despite many requests. Staff are very caring and kind from all parts of the world. Looking for permanent manager at time of writing so management needs improving. Too much staff turnover and too little communication. Also, lack of name badges at time of writing. Overall good but room for improvement.

The overall care received by my Mum until her death was satisfactory but the refund process for money owed to us after her death didn't work for our family.

The staff are polite and friendly. Rooms are clean with a rota showing dates and times. Most meals are served in the room for my dad as he does not like to mix with the other residents, and has limited walking capacity. The dementia unit is secure with key pad entry/exit. Not that dad would be walking about.

My parents (who both have dementia) have been at Escan Manor since Aug/Sept 2024. My father was at another home in Exeter (rated close to 10*, with an "Outstanding" CQC) but they told us they could not deal with him any more - in particular his tendency to shout if he has an urgent need. Several other care homes refused to take him. Escan Manor, by contrast, has done an excellent job of managing his needs. I also find the staff much friendlier than at the previous home. As for my mother, the home has worked hard to help her settle in, especially in light of her anxiety and confusion. There have been personnel changes, but I regularly see care staff that I've got to know from previous visits. The home is purpose-built, well designed and v.warm (both parents really feel the cold). Can't say it's all been perfect (e.g. admin/communication is v.poor) - but for me, the most important thing is the care, which in my experience has been very good.

My father moved in June 2024, following a 2 year stay in another home, he moved to be closer to his family. It took him a while to settle in with constant changes in staff, especially nurses and then understanding his needs and acknowledging his care plan. There have been a few incidents of not having his medication which have caused a lot of anxiety. With more changes and the departure of management and senior staff, we are starting to worry that we have made the right decision. We are not feeling confident that his complex needs are being met and for the home whilst promising, they seem to be going through a period of uncertainty.

Hopefully, this improvement will remain and other issues will be addressed. This is sadly quite a negative review but it's an honest one.

The food looks good, and the bedrooms and central areas are beautiful with great attention to detail. When the manager has been appointed (I am hoping the assistant manager will be appointed) Escan Manor can only go one way "Up".

Although this is a very clean and tidy place, I have found that the lady I visit has twice to my knowledge been left for over an half hour after asking to use the toilet and has therefore wet the bed/chair and sat in it uncomfortably for a while which does not help the sores she has. I have also noticed when breakfast is brought in no one has offered to sit and encourage/feed her. It was just left on the table for her to help herself. If this is happening at lunchtime as well then she has no chance of building her strength back up. I know staff shortages don't help but don't take in more residents until you have the staff to look after them properly.

The team take great pride and ensures that the atmosphere is relaxed, and welcoming and the residents are respected. It does have that hotel feeling which makes the experience a very pleasant one. My parents are delighted by the excellent level of care they receive. They are extremely happy and settled in well. Communication is good between the team and the residents. I couldn't have wished for a nicer place for them to be in and call it their forever home. My only concern is that the quality of the food has dropped but I know it's getting a bit better.

The staff are very good, comfortable, and very pleasant surroundings. Food could be improved.

You couldn't go anywhere better. The rooms are lovely and the food was really nice - like a 4-star hotel.

There is only one word to say about this wonderful place wow. It’s very apprehensive visiting a relative for the first time in a strange environment. However, from the first moment you walk in the whole atmosphere is so beautiful and welcoming. It’s not institutionalised in any way. It’s more like a five-star hotel. The staff are all dressed as professional carers and treat the residents with total respect. I visited at lunchtime to see my two family members. I was offered lunch and taken to the small dining room which looked so welcoming, even a bottle of wine being opened for residents. It was so reassuring to see my family members so relaxed in a stunning place such as Escan Manor.
