Pitreavie Castle Care Home

from R M (Son of Resident) published on 12 December 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
My mum is very happy in the home and importantly I feel she is safe. I have been in several times each day for the last week and the staff have been nothing but caring towards the residents and are always attentive towards their needs.
My only observation is at busy times and weekends they do seem
to be overworked and there doesn't appear to be enough staff. This can have a knock on effect for mealtimes which has been late for most days and can upset the routine of the residents
Reply from Maurice Long, Regional Manager at Pitreavie Castle Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. I was very pleased to hear that your mum is happy at Pitreavie, and that you feel that the care staff are attentive towards residents needs.
I appreciate your concerns regarding staffing, which has been addressed with 8 new staff commencing employment in the last two weeks, with a further three awaiting completion of paperwork prior to taking up employment.
Further to this, our new home manager took up post this week, and is looking forward to meeting all the relatives when they visit Pitreavie over the next couple of weeks.

My mum came to Oakeshott House for respite care on 06/10/2025, and I must say how impressed I am with the care, dignity and kindness shown to my mum. Mum is continuing to stay on at Oakeshott as she is no longer safe living on her own. The kindness, reassurance and support given to me by all of the

Hatfield Manor is an amazing care home. Dad has Alzheimer's and from day one everyone has done their upmost to give him the care he needs. He has a real bond with the carers and the staff, they treat him with exceptional care, understanding, concern, respect and dignity. Dad never wanted to be in a
care home, but Hatfield Manor is where he feels safe and secure. It is truly his home, and I will be forever thankful for how they care for Dad.
Reply from Home Manager, Management at Hatfield ManorThank you so much for your lovely words and for taking the time to share this. It means a great deal to the whole team to know that your dad feels safe, secure and at home here.

I have been meaning to write this review for a while as my sister and I want to thank everyone at Morar Bridge of Weir for the friendship, care and compassion shown to our very special Uncle Joe. He came to live at Morar at a very traumatic time in his life and the whole staff team were wonderful in
how well they supported him. He loved you all but was especially fond of Claire and Joann! Joe was happy at Morar and made many friends. He was always treated with respect and dignity and , as a family, we felt welcome and were kept informed about his welfare. Thank you so much Claire and team for everything you did for Joe. I know you miss him as much as we do!

My brother was deemed end of life in Hospital. So that we could visit him easier he was moved to Marina View. We could not believe how stunning it was so clean, so inviting and his room was like a 5 * hotel. Staff were amazing but too few of them. Food looked brilliant. All staff were caring and sincere
when my brother passed away. He was only there a week, but boy this was the best place we could have ever chosen. Just needs to make sure the hand over from hospitals is filtered down to all staff.

What can I say - we struck really lucky with Langham Manor! I looked at a few homes in the area. Narrowed it down to two. We went with Langham Manor. My father was quite poorly where he entered, but he certainly rallied with the fantastic staff, surrounding and most delicious food. None of us could
have asked for more. Friendly staff, who couldn't do any more for either my father, or us. His family. Definitely a 5 star place.

Pitreavie Castle Care Home

from Yvonne R (Daughter of Resident) published on 4 November 2025
Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My dad moved into the home in August. He had been in for respite care at Easter and enjoyed the experience enough to decide to move in on a permanent basis. The staff are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble. Any hiccups have been dealt with smoothly and efficiently. The management team seem to know
what they are doing and are always approachable. Dad has enjoyed several days out and has recently been able to return to a club he went to before he moved to the home. The food is generally good, although he would like the veg to be cooked for longer! The rooms are lovely and kept clean. Handrails were added in the bathroom to aid his mobility. The laundry is returned timeously, and there is a variety of activities for residents to join in should they wish. The ambience of the home is such that visitors of residents are welcomed as friends. The bistro offers a communal space where we can chat together.
Reply from Management Team, Home Manager at Pitreavie Castle Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such lovely feedback about your dads experience at our home. Were delighted to hear that he enjoyed his respite stay enough to choose to move in permanently that really means a lot to us.

Its wonderful to know hes settled in well, enjoying his days out, and even getting back to his club. Our team always aims to provide a homely environment where residents can continue doing the things they love while feeling supported and cared for.

Your kind comments about the staff, management team, and the atmosphere around the home have been shared with everyone theyll be so pleased to know their efforts are making a difference. And weve noted your dads feedback about the vegetables too!

Thank you again for your thoughtful words and for being part of our community. We look forward to continuing to make your dads time with us happy and comfortable.

We as a family cannot express how amazing abbeygate manor has been.
Mum came in two weeks ago on end of life, and we are talking the ambulance that took her there had to stop a few times as did not think she was not going to make it.
Since she has been in Abbeygate the care she has received has been
more than outstanding, it's a miracle and what they have been and done for our mum/nanny.
The care she is getting is the best I have ever seen, not only for mum but for us the family.
We are and will be eternally grateful for all you do. Thank you so much for your wonderful staff you are truly angels x

Thank you to Ben and team for the care and kindness shown to my husband in the 5/6 weeks at Abbeygate. Five star home. We enjoyed family meals together, he was always well dressed and shaved, and he said the staff were wonderful and cheerful. His every need was seen and taken care of.

Our mum has been a resident at Abbygate for almost 2 months. It was difficult for her to start with, as she had been independent for many years, but after a few falls became very frail and loving on her own was no longer an option. Mum has a lovely roo, with ensuite and patio doors that lead onto a
patio. The staff are wonderful and treat mum with respect and dignity, and nothing is ever too much trouble. Any issues are dealt with promptly. She has her hair done at their salon every week, and a chiropodist is visiting her this week. Mum looks so well now, and it's a pleasure to visit her, she's more like the mum we used to have. Mum/we no longer have to worry about her being alone at night, someone is there at the press of a button. We are all delighted with her care. It's like a 5 star hotel. Many, many thanks.

Mum was in respite in Tantallon from end of August until October & settled so well alleviating all of our fears. This was mainly due to the staff being so welcoming & most importantly treating Mum like an individual.
She loved her room & her view & she came to look at her placement as home.
Minimal
issues were sorted out quickly & efficiently with management being very easy to approach.

We were extremely vexed to have had to move Mum onto residential care & thank everyone @ Tantallon so very much for both welcoming us as a family & keeping Mum safe x

My siblings and I are happy with the care dad is receiving at Langham Manor. The staff are friendly, compassionate and caring and management is always happy to answer any questions we might have. The facilities are good and the garden is a real bonus as dad enjoys walking around it and looking at the
plants. The food is nutritious and plentiful which is not always the case in other care homes.

Our experience of Abbeygate Manor has been outstanding, from the moment we looked round the care home, right up to our family member being admitted has been excellent. The manager was so kind, thoughtful, understanding and caring. This was a difficult decision for us as a family, and all the time the
manager and his team helped, reassured us, which is what we needed. Without a doubt, they made the transition so much easier. The care home is so different to most in the area, a modern, no-smell, no clinical feeling, making it feel far more homely. Nothing has been too much for the manager, he has made calls to check we are ok as he knew we was very upset with this move. We cannot thank him and his staff enough. Would highly recommend.

We are so grateful to all the staff at Abbeygate Manor, who treated my Dad with great care and kindness during his stay. He was only with them for a few days for palliative care, but their professional and friendly treatment of us and my dad alleviated some of the stress we were going through.

In June, we moved my dad into Langham Manor for palliative care. He was there almost 2 1/2 months before passing and unquestionably, we had extra time because of the care and love he received. The caregivers were exceptional! They were so kind and respectful. They talked to my dad and told him funny
stories. They made him smile. Their spirit and humour made for a wonderful atmosphere. For us, they were a shoulder to cry on, our strength and always reminded us to eat on the long, hard, emotional days. The entire staff were excellent! Understanding and nothing was ever too much trouble. The food was exceptional quality! The rooms are spacious and always kept clean. I had complete trust in the medical team. The special touches of homemade birthday cakes were lovely. We came to Langham Manor at quite a sad time, but somehow they made it okay. They were wonderful and we couldn't be more grateful. We felt their kindness, their love and my dad died peacefully and with dignity. Thank you.

Escan Manor

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I cannot thank all the staff at Escan Manor enough for the care they are providing Mum. My father was her main carer but the situation at home became increasingly fraught due to mum's dementia. Eventually Dad was persuaded that moving in to a care home was the best option for Mum. They have been married
for 76 years so not an easy decision. From the initial meeting with the manager (thank you) I was reassured that this was the place for Mum. The whole family can't believe how welcoming, caring and friendly everyone we have met have been. Dad visits everyday and is made to feel so welcome and cared for too. This is care above and beyond and we all want to thank you so much for making a difficult situation so manageable. We particularly like the small units where there are many little rooms that you can go into should you wish. It really feels like a cross between a really nice hotel and a "home" . Just wow, and heartfelt thanks to all. We should have done this month's ago!
Reply from Hazel McGwyne, Home Manager at Escan ManorThank you so much for your wonderful and heartfelt feedback. It truly means a great deal to the whole team at Escan Manor. We understand how difficult it can be to make the decision for a loved one to move into care, especially after so many years together, and we're so pleased to hear that your mum and dad are both feeling supported and comfortable.

Our aim is always to create a homely, welcoming environment where residents and their families feel part of our community, so it's lovely to know this has made a difference to you all. I'll be sure to share your kind words with the team - they'll be delighted to know their care and warmth are appreciated.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. It's a privilege to care for your mum and to welcome your dad each day.
