My dad is a new resident at Harbour House The management team Lauren and Anitha made our transition effortless. We had a warm welcome by Hamish.
Very impressed at Harbour Houses tasteful decoration throughout. The rooms are spacious, bright and comfortable complete with an elegant en-suite shower room. There are various lounges with kitchenettes and quiet lounges to sit and relax whilst looking out to sea. Very nicely designed and calmly decorated.
Friendly staff members introduced themselves to my dad and were very well presented in their smart uniforms. Staff were very calm and had a kind, gentle approach.
My dad instantly felt relaxed with the soft music playing in the corridors
There's a wonderful selection of food on the menu with hot and cold drinks, fresh fruit, cakes or snacks served throughout the day.
Yvonne, activities coordinator made an instant impact. My dad was up dancing, singing and on an outing immediately.

Fantastic.

My mum was very happy here for her respite for three weeks. All the staff were wonderful, caring and friendly.. My mum was more physical because she moved about freely across her landing supervised of course and enjoyed sitting eating her food or just having a cup of tea with the other resident's. I found the staff to be welcoming and caring too. My dog was also welcome when we went to visit my mum. I will definitely bring my mum back.

Very early days so can only comment on the experience so far. My Dad moved into HH just over a week ago and from the outset we were welcomed by Lauren, shown around and supported with the transition. In the first week he has been well cared for, supported with personal care and is enjoying the food! Hamish on reception is always warm and friendly and Yvonne has made time to get to know my Dad and learn about his interests and personality which really matters to us as a family and helps him feel a friendly connection. It's not a perfect situation but knowing my Dad is safe and supported has eased the transition. His own photos were put on the wall very promptly which makes his space feel more personal.

Still incredibly early in the process to make a fully informed judgement however I was encouraged by the most recent inspector report and our experience so far has been very good. I will update review once I have more experience to add.

My dad was a resident of the home due to having Alzheimer's which they claim to specialise in, he had to move into a nhs hospital as they could not provide the care he needed, so the do not specialise is Alzheimer's and are looking for residents that are immobile or residents that want to sit and watch tv all day! We have been constantly contacting the home to obtain a refund for the thousands of pounds we had to pay in advance and they are ignoring us and we are now having to go through the civil court to get my dads money back!! They were quick enough to send a bill for £8000 when he was not even resident there!! Would not recommend putting anyone with a bit of mobility in this home!!

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate the opportunity to respond. Harbour House supports individuals with dementia, but where needs require acute clinical intervention, hospital care is necessary. Fees are applied in line with the agreed contract, and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns directly.

My sister has been here since June 2025 and loves it here. Sometimes she doesn't act like it but that is her illness.
The staff are all lovely and can't do enough for the residents and families.

The activity coordinator is great and always engages with visitors too.

My dad has been in Harbour House for nearly 3 years. In my opinion he is being well looked after by the staff and my siblings and I have no issues the care being provided. We visit at different times most days and have always found the staff friendly and helpful plus they do keep us up to date with how he is getting on .I also get a monthly call from the nurse with a review on his care and asked if we have any issues.

For a short while the lack of an activities coordinator was I felt detrimental to the residents well being . The appointment of the new person has raised the general morale in the home ( residents can be a tough audience)

Overall we are very happy with the staff and care provided in Harbour House

Dreadful establishment-avoid at all costs if you care at all for your loved ones. My Mum passed away at Harbour House on December 12th 2024. There were a number of events and circumstances that led to the terrible and distressful events that I witnessed personally, brought about by the inappropriate decisions and actions, in my opinion, that were taken by Harbour House staff on the afternoon of December 9th, from which my Mum never recovered. These actions were not handled with sufficient care/attention and problems arose due to lapses in process/standards. An independent investigation into the decisions and actions taken by Harbour House staff was conducted by The Scottish Care Inspectorate (CCN-35893-2024135893) so that nobody else should ever suffer such distress going forward. This investigation will not bring my dear Mum back but it may prevent similar actions occurring to others and hopefully lead to an improvement in the level of care being provided at Harbour House.

Reply from Gillian Goodall, Care Home Manager at Harbour House

Harbour House Care Home wishes to extend its sincere condolences to the family following the passing of their mother. The home recognises how distressing this experience has been for the family and is sorry that they felt let down by the care provided during their mother's time at Harbour House. The wellbeing and dignity of residents remain the highest priority at Harbour House.

When I initially visited the home is was well present, bright, modern, clean and in a great position within the community. My family member has only been in the home for a short time. She has found it relaxing and able to join in daily entertainment or sit quietly in a well proportioned room. Management and staff are marvelous and cater magnificently for residents daily needs. This is done with dignity and kindness. Staffing levels do need looking at. Overall the home is excellent and meets our needs.

Our Mother was in Harbour House for several months and was looked after very well by the excellent staff. Unfortunately our mother passed away on 19th September after a short illness . We were asked to get all her belongings out of her room in 3 days. We were also told within 3 days that we owe £12000 in outstanding fees, this was not true and after checks they confirmed they owe us over £5000.as we had paid to much. We have been fighting to receive this money now for 9 months and still nothing. This is disgusting and we are not the first family to be treated disgracefully, lots of other families have had to take Morar Homes to court to receive what money is owed .

Do not send your family anywhere near Morar homes as they treat grieving family's without dignity or compassion, it's all about greed and not about care. We are still fighting and serving legal papers to obtain our mother's refund. Please read this and be warned . This is not about the staff but about the owners

My father was welcomed into Harbour House in March of this year, he was met with a very friendly and warm welcome which helped him feel safe and secure, this has been a frightening experience moving away from his home to somewhere he didn't know and he is slowly getting used to his surroundings. The staff in Harbour House are all very kind and helpful, they seem very well trained in what they do and keep us informed on how he is.

After moving my mum from a large group care home to Harbour House the difference in her care and appearance has been remarkable. The staff are so attentive and genuinely caring, food is to her liking and activities are a central part of her day. Cleanliness is first class.

Our dad has stayed at Harbour House for nearly two years. We pop in to see Dad at all times of the day, which is great because it gives us a full view of the activities and care that he receives. The staff are always attentive and caring and also take the time to listen about any concerns/worries we may have. It's lovely to see Dad has put weight on and is taking full advantage of the great meals. He goes out and about, to pubs, shops, the local barbers, out on the bike. It's nice to see he is happy here at Harbour House.

I didn’t think I’d ever be writing a review for a care home but due to health and age, my mum moved into Harbour House in January. She’s so much happier with people to talk to and activities keeping her busy throughout the week. The staff are wonderful and very caring. I know she’s being well looked after 24 hours a day which is peace of mind.

My rating for value is a little lower but that’s just personal as it would be the same for any.

Please be aware. This place is extremely poorly managed, all they are clearly after is filling the rooms and getting the money in the bank, understaffed and lack of training. Please do not be fooled by the glitz and glamour it is all for show. The management or lack of management is shocking. Please do your homework before committing your loved ones. Do not be fooled like we were.

Over the last 6 months, I have seen a massive improvement in the care home. I feel this has been underpinned by ensuring their staff have had up to date training and the management are supporting the staff.

The home has supported my mum and worked with me to meet my mother's needs e.g. raised toilet seat, extra grip handles, shower chair. Bringing in clinical leads has also helped. The activities team are very enthusiastic.

The care our any receives is excellent. It is not only the necessary care she receives; they all show such care and empathy for her overall needs. We often go in, and a member of staff is sitting with her (holding her hand). They go over and above in all aspects of her care.
They are in constant contact, letting us know how she is. The home is spotless and to a very high standard.

We cannot thank or praise them enough for everything.

My mum has been in Harbour House for over a year now and is thriving in the environment under the wonderful care provided by the excellent staff. She was getting very anxious at home and it was becoming increasingly difficult for me to take care of her but she is now more settled and enjoys the various activities and company of the other residents and the staff. The food is excellent and she has put on weight since she moved in. The home is always clean and tidy and I am kept updated regularly about Mum. The staff also went above and beyond on Mum's recent birthday to make her feel special. I would highly recommend this care home.

My aunt has been a resident for about 8 months in her care has been exceptional. She was quite mobile and very aware when she first entered Harbour House but unfortunately has deteriorated rapidly. Thankfully the staff are amazing and have shown her care and kindness second to none. They are truly inspirational and have given us as a family guidance and advice constantly. My aunt is treated as a friend and they are consistently popping in to see her, even when we visit, for a chat and just to make sure she's OK. She is treated with dignity and kindness all times.

Hamish Cairns
Hamish CairnsJob Title:ReceptionistJoined: 2026

My career in Care began when I was 19 years old, and I started my Business & Administration Apprenticeship for a company called Beyond Homecare (care-at-home business). This role introduced me to the care sector, and I quickly learned that this is a sector I enjoy working in.

After a couple of months into the Apprenticeship, I also started to do care shifts at the weekend. I learned how fun and rewarding a care assistant role can be. I stayed at Beyond Homecare for 3 years when my apprenticeship finished. I then joined Haddington Care Home as a Care Assistant in January 2023. I then got promoted as a Team Leader while doing my SVQ 3. The Team Leader role was challenging, however, so rewarding. During my time as a Team Leader, I started to work some days as the receptionist/administrator; by helping to do that, I realised I had missed working in the Admin side of things in the Care sector. I then applied for the Reception / Administrator role at Harbour House.
