It was a huge and heartbreaking decision to move my dad, who has alzheimers, into 24 hour care when we could no longer safely care for him at home. However, staff at Hermitage House have been incredible with both my dad and the wider family and the change of circumstances has actually become a positive
experience for us all.
Despite resistance from my dad initially, he's settled really well and I believe this is down to the lovely, caring attitude of all the staff we've come across. It's clear that his care is provided to a really high standard and staff work really hard to make him feel valued and respected. There's lots of activities/social opportunities for him to join in with which was really important for us and has helped him to feel happy. The home itself is beautifully presented and very clean and most importantly the staff are excellent at what they do. I couldn't have asked for a better environment for my dad.
Reply from Lynn Cumming, Manager at Hermitage HouseThank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to share your experience.
We are delighted to hear that you are happy with the care and support provided. Our team works incredibly hard to create a warm, safe and welcoming environment, so your feedback truly means a lot to us.
I will be sure to share your lovely comments with the staff
Thank you again for your trust and support.

It is such a difficult decision to move a beloved parent into a care home but the staff at Hermitage House really put my mind at rest. A lot of attention is put in for people with dementia including a sensory room that dad enjoys (it doubles up as a nice quiet sitting room), books with old photos of
local areas, baby dolls and a pram. There are lots of staff around all the time and everyone has gone above and beyond in making dad welcome and reassuring us too. When he fell ill it was picked up by nursing staff and handled appropriately which is a weight off our minds.

Rooms and grounds are beautiful. Menus are appetising and having seen the food it looks as good as it sounds. Also little mini bars in each wing so residents and visitors can grab snacks or water when they need. Whenever I see staff with other residents I see them talking kindly and with genuine warmth.

My mum has been living at Hermitage for 18 months, and we've been consistently impressed by the excellent care and warm, welcoming environment. The home is modern, clean, and spacious, with safe outdoor areas and comfortable spaces for quiet family time or a change of scene.
The staff are outstanding
- kind, skilled, and always going the extra mile. The manager is approachable and operates an open-door policy, so any suggestions or concerns are dealt with quickly and effectively.
The clinical lead and team leaders listen closely and involve both residents and families in care planning. Mum has very complex needs, including severe aphasia and physical disability, but the team has supported her to enjoy the best possible quality of life and independence. They've welcomed input from physiotherapists, neuropsychologists, and occupational therapists, ensuring truly personalised care.
We feel very lucky to have found Hermitage - it gives us real peace of mind.

My Granny was admitted to Hermitage House recently. I have never been a care home environment before and was worried. I shouldn't of worried the staff were warm and inviting and my Granny was well cared for and looked the best she had in months. Staff took the time to find about her likes and dislikes.
While visiting i found the staff to be engaging and very aware of non verbal ques from my Granny

My father has lived in Hermitage House for nearly 3 years. He frequently says "aren't we lucky that Hermitage House opened at just the right time". Dad has always had very high standards, and he (and I) are very impressed with every aspect of Hermitage House: the staff & management, building/accommodation,
facilities, food, etc.

All staff (carers, nurses, cleaners, handyman, receptionist, laundry etc) get know the residents very well. And Dad enjoys his chats with them. He is invited to go on outings and join in the many activities that are on offer, but if he doesn't want to join in, he is never forced to do anything he doesn't want to. They treat residents as individuals.

The manager's office door is always open, close by the front door. No appointment ever necessary. Residents and relatives are always greeted with a welcoming smile, and we are made to feel that our opinions and suggestions are always welcomed. I cannot recommend Hermitage House enough. 5-star 10/10

The home is more like a hotel, the manager and all the staff work tirelessly, nothing is ever a trouble, the level of care and attention is above and beyond what would be expected.
Mum is on the second Floor, lead by the floor manager, and her team, I can't fault, mum was unsure when she came in,
but they have made it feel like home to her, I can't tell you how much relief I feel, knowing that she is getting this level of care means to me.

When I was no longer able to care for my mum's needs at home I visited numerous care homes in the area. Hermitage House was stunning, the staff were warm and inviting, the manager eased my worries and concerns. I also looked into the care inspectorate reports and was very impressed at the high grading
and feedback. My mum has now been in Hermitage House for a month and has settled well. Staff have got to know her routine and personality and have made me feel at home while visiting and at ease when leaving that my mum is safe and happy.

Hermitage House is an exceptional care home. My father resided with them for the last two years, joining them not long after the home opened. The care staff and support team are amazing, their compassion and care of my father, particularly in his last few weeks/days was outstanding. Staff went above

I am more than happy with the care my great auntie is receiving from hermitage house. She is cared for in the highest regard and her dignity is respected by all workers.
When I visit her she is happy and can recall activities and events that she has participated in.
They recently had a family
day and it was a wonderful day for my aunt to meet other residents and more staff that she wouldn’t normally see such as the reception staff.
Having the activities coordinator helps her stay active and has her using her problem-solving abilities which helps keep her brain active.
The hairdresser is a favourite as she likes to look fabulous.

My mum has been a resident in home for a few months now, and I have got to say the standard of care is outstanding, from coming to view the home all staff from management, nurses, and the carers made myself and my mum very welcome. Mum is more settled than she has been last few years. Mum loves staying
in the home and enjoying the activities especially the parties as she loves meeting up with the other residents.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.819)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.819) out of 10 for Hermitage House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.994 for Hermitage House is calculated as follows: ( (155 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 156 Ratings = 4.994
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hermitage House is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Home Manager Joined: 2022

Welcome to Hermitage House in Helensburgh. My Name is Lynn Cumming, and I am the Care Home Manager. I have been extremely lucky to be part of this amazing home since its opening in Jan 2022. My staff and I have had the privilege of being involved in the commissioning of a brand new luxury care home.

Here at Hermitage House, our main focus is on our residents, and we are very passionate about providing excellent standards of care. Our stunning home, combined with our excellent staff, allows everyone to get the very best out of life. We encourage our residents to enjoy and maintain a full and active lifestyle.

I have been nursing for over 15 years and found my passion for working with the elderly. Care Homes are where I have spent the duration of my working career, devoting time to training and developing staff members. This is most definitely my biggest achievement to date. I am passionate about being able to offer staff the opportunity to progress in their career in a job that they enjoy, which, more importantly, improves the quality of care.
