The move to Mathieson house has been a welcoming experience for my loved one. Warmth and genuine care towards her and other residents is lovely to see with great support to understand her changing needs. My concerns about leaving my mum at first were dispelled as we were greeted, and all chatted over a cup of tea. There is a homely feel in this beautiful building.

I know mum is in good, caring hands at a difficult time of life. Thank you.

The Matheson House care team are a very professional yet homely support family who from the moment we arrived with Kathleen balanced care and interest in her personally with professional insight and knowledge. They are more than safe hands, they have the foresight to anticipate her evolving needs, the empathy to respond to her kindly, plus the humanity to openly accomodate her family's involvement in her life with them. Kathleen's move there has been a godsend for her and the entire family.

Our initial impressions following my mother's relocation from a local authority care facility in England to Mathieson House have been exceptionally positive. We were afforded outstanding support from the care home manager, who expertly guided us through the particularly demanding process of transitioning to Edinburgh from England. Upon arrival, the staff-including carers, nurses, and administrative personnel-demonstrated excellence, and these exemplary standards have been consistently maintained. The quality of care and attention provided has been so remarkable that my mother, who had been eager to depart her previous care facility, now perceives herself as a guest in a distinguished hotel and has settled comfortably, bringing considerable relief to our family.

My mother has established some good friendships among both staff members and fellow residents, all of whom have extended a most gracious welcome to her.

The facilities are wonderful. It’s such a nice home. Very clean and well-equipped. Staff are amazing. Friendly and engaging, and they really seem to enjoy their work and genuinely care about doing the job well with professionalism and empathy. Food quality and choice are excellent. I feel at ease knowing that my mother is safe, secure and being well looked after.

Overall Experience

I arrived here nearly two years ago and was impressed with the home. Changes in management meant that standards appeared to drop somewhat, particularly in relation to the kitchen/dining room arrangements. The current manager has rectified the situation in many ways and indeed has improved standards overall in the home. The manager's task is very difficult as while we are all treated well, several residents appear to need one to one attention, which means all the staff are kept very busy and cleanliness standards drop a little.

My blind, 91yrs, wheelchair user mother has been a resident for nearly 13months in Mathieson House.

Hoping for many changes, badly needed 5 managers in a year! - At last, a caring, hardworking, responsible manager to steady this care home. With the addition of a good activities person, also front of office help, at last, these people have slowly affected changes to support some wonderful human beings. (staff) Thank you for supporting my mother.

This was the first time my 92-year-old mum had expereinced respite care. I could not have chosen a better care home for her to be in.

The management and staff were all excellent. The standard of decor and cleanliness was to a very high standard. The food was plentiful and nutritious. I would have no hesitation in using Mathieson House again. My mum thoroughly enjoyed her stay there.

Overall Experience

As a family, we have tried many care homes throughout Edinburgh for respite for my Grandmother. After finding Mathieson House this was a miracle. Could not ask for a better service.

The care home itself is immaculate, such a friendly team that bend over backwards to accommodate the person in respite and their family. For example getting in diabetic ice cream. I was asked if I wanted to go and eat but had just eaten a huge meal. The food smelt delicious. Her room was amazing and very clean.

The team, I wish I could mention names, were fantastic with everyone. It is nice to see people being treated with respect.

The only small issue is that some clothes of my Grandmother have been mislaid but the team are looking for them and will get in touch with the family once found.

We have already booked my Grandmother in 2 more times.

Matheson House is great value for money and cannot speak highly enough of the place.

Wish as a family we had found this place a long time ago.

My mother spent a week of respite. She had a wonderful time. On arrival, she believed she was staying in a lovely 4* hotel! So kind, lovely care and a beautiful room. She was so happy. She was v well cared for, baths or showers daily. Good food and they even got in diabetic ice cream as she is a type 1 diabetic!

Staff were wonderful - all of them!
