Our mum was in the care home (which we refer to as the luxury 5 star hospice) only for a week for end of life palliative care, before she passed away peacefully. We cannot rate Mearns View Care Home highly enough, we had the most positive experience during a very difficult time. Our mum received exemplary
care and was treated with utmost dignity, respect and compassion. Her room was so homely and she was very comfortable there. We filled it with family photos, personal bits and bobs and flowers. The whole care home is beautifully decorated, and very well thought through with incredible attention to detail. Our daughter very much enjoyed the beautiful gardens and playpark when she was visiting too. All of the staff are incredible and made us feel so welcome and at home, so that we could be at Mum's side during her last few days. They took the time to get to know us and were so supportive and understanding. We are delighted we found this place. Highly recommend. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Mearns View is a brand new care facility who were able to accommodate my mum when we needed emergency respite care. She is now a permanent resident, and although leaving the same home she had lived in for 57 years she has settled incredibly well. Every member of staff is warm, welcoming and caring.
The facilities make friends and family welcome - having a cafe, outside seating and flat garden paths to walk around. A play area is perfect for visiting great grandchildren. My mum really enjoys the food which is a great compliment from her!

The nursing care given to my friend was exceptional, The nursing staff were very attentive and caring during his brief stay. He was very comfortable and peaceful. We we're very pleased with the personal care and attention he was given as an individual. They couldn't do enough for him. It felt like a
five-star hotel accommodation and would certainly recommend this home to anyone.

The care that my mother got at Mearns View was above and beyond what I and my family could ever have imagined after her six months in the hospital. The staff from the nursing and care side were fantastic. All the staff were so friendly and made the family so welcome at each visit. The nursing staff
kept us informed with very important information at the times when my mother's health was deteriorating, very professional, and totally empathised with the situation. Was so comforting to know that Mum was being cared for by the staff and was with family through the most distressing time of our lives at the point of losing our dearest mother. I could not fault any care my mother received at the home and was only glad this was where she spent her last days in your care. The facilities and rooms are of excellent standards, unfortunately, Mum was not well enough to have more time there. Thank you to all the staff again for your care. It is very much appreciated.

Needing respite care quickly for an elderly relative, Mearns View was the choice.
The staff were kind and attentive, and nothing was too much bother in the settling-in process. During this time, it was decided to make the placement permanent as another family member needed nursing care. Again timing,
placing, and conditioning were excellent. The comfort and beautiful surroundings are apparent, but the quality of the management and staff were the deciding factor in the decision to stay.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.943)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.943) out of 10 for Mearns View Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.943 for Mearns View Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (250 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 264 Ratings = 4.943
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mearns View Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
