Overall Experience

Mearns View is a welcoming care home which caters for residents with a variety of needs. Management and care staff work hard to form positive relationships with residents and their families to ensure care is of a high standard. Regular meetings with residents and families to identify strengths and areas for development to be built on/addressed are held which are effective in listening to different opinions and suggestions. Facilities are well designed to make residents feel at home, e.g. each room is en suite, all floors have small dining rooms and lounges. Communal spaces are also available such as the cafe, hairdresser and garden where residents can meet and interact in larger numbers. Food and drink is varied and available at all times, catering for residents' needs and tastes. My Mum is settled in Mearns View with carers who make sure her needs are met. Their genuine care and support for her, and us as her family, is much appreciated.

My Mum moved into this care home in April 2025. Since then, her dementia has worsened, involving full incontinence. The carers have been unfailingly respectful and kind towards her, they have been super-attentive, too, and her room and bathroom are always clean. The home always contacts me when she has a fall, or any small incident, and they've accompanied her to hospital too. The other areas like the garden cafe and lounge, are always immaculate. Recently they helped us give Mum a small party for her 84th. I feel that my Mum is being properly cared for by friendly, caring staff.

My elderly mother has been a resident in Mearns View since November 2024. My mother needs some help and support with most daily activities, and she can be quite unsteady in her mobility. We have been very impressed from the outset with the fabulous care my mother has received. The environment is homely and comfortable, and the decor is of a very high standard. What stands out, though, is the staff. The staff deliver a high standard of care (and I recognise my mother can be difficult). They are patient, kind and caring - we could not ask for more.

My dad moved to Mearns View 31-3-2025. He was in another home for 5 nights which was totally unsatisfactory. He is very happy and settled in Mearns View. I have found all staff, management, carers, cleaners, kitchen staff and events team to be very kind, caring and so helpful. I am very glad my father resides at Mearns View and would highly recommend it to anyone.

My mum came in for respite in June 2024 and became a full time resident in July 2024. My mum feels safe, happy and content at Mearns View and has nothing but praise for all the staff. Since the family live in England it gives us peace of mind to know that she is being well cared for.

My mum joins in the activities, enjoys her meals and has a small group of like minded friends. In addition she gets her hair and nails done regularly. She has a lovely room where she can rest, do her crossword or watch TV.

My mother in law was admitted in May. The Care Home immediately assessed her needs and responded with appropriate level of care she needed. This has been reviewed daily as they got to know her and her needs changed. We are updated with any changes. The staff are very attentive to her and she has settled in very quickly. The care home has very high standards of cleanliness, very comfortable, food excellent.

Amidst all the difficult times with Mum and Dad, there's some real diamonds with the manager and the team at Mearns View.
I also can't speak highly enough of the staff and all the girls who organise the activities. I joined the folks yesterday for chair zumba and reflexology and actually felt like a load had been lifted off my shoulders - I can only imagine how good the folks felt. Wondering maybe if I should just move in too!?

Anyway, I've just left the folks having joined them for coffee at a karaoke sing-a-long this morning - what a beautiful energy in the room. Everyone's spirits were so high and it looked like Mum and Dad had made quite a few new friends. We were definitely hogging the mic at times though so I apologise for what I thought were harmonies. I'm removing Islands in the Stream from my karaoke repertoire, the staff will be glad to know.

My wife has spent the last year of her life in the Mearns View Care Home, Newton Mearns. The personal service and help she was given by the management, nurses and staff was excellent. The program of enjoyable events: live entertainment, barbecues, board games and films, not to mention the dressing-up events such as Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day to keep everyone in a cheerful mood. It all added up to a stay that can be happily remembered by everyone. One memory will live with me forever - the regular peals of laughter that echo down those hallways.

My thanks to the manager and his team, they all play a part in creating a vibrant community.

My wife has vascular dementia and I am her carer. I was hospitalised and required respite care for my wife during my stay in the hospital. I am delighted to say that the care provided was really exceptional. The home provided a pleasant stay for my wife both emotionally and medically providing the support that my wife required. A well-run and absolutely perfect care home that met all my requirements, above and beyond their normal duties. Very professional and caring in all aspects of care. Would highly recommend Mearns View to anyone seeking care.

My sisters and I chose Mearns View for our mother who had become quite frail and needed more specialised care as she had dementia and cancer. We had heard good reports of the care home and we were not disappointed. From management, and care staff to ancillary staff, all were exceptionally knowledgeable, caring and kind towards both our mum and us, nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately Mum passed away after only 2 weeks and although we were saddened at her passing, the staff members on duty took excellent care of her and I was offered a room to rest in between sitting with Mum until she passed. I thank every one of you for helping us make the transition for our mum moving from her home to yours at short notice, a stress-free free pleasant experience.
Mum's words 'it's lovely and clean, like a hotel'.

Thank you all again.

Our sister has been at Mearns View since March. She has settled extremely well and she seems to be happy and content. This is mainly due to the care and attention that she has had from the amazing staff team. The manager has clearly set out a shared vision for the care home which has filtered down to each and every member of staff. From garden parties, trips out on the minibus and weekly quizzes, to pampering sessions, entertainment and theme days... Our sister is treated with love and dignity. This is truly her home. It is an excellent place.

My friend has settled in very quickly to Mearns View and feels very much at home here. She receives great care from the staff who are warm and attentive - nothing is too much trouble. Individual needs are the highest priority and great care and interest are taken over her welfare and comfort. She is gently encouraged to participate in the Home’s activities.
When visiting or phoning, the staff are always very welcoming and helpful and there is good communication about matters concerning my friend. It’s always a pleasure to visit.

Mearns View is a lovely home, with tasteful decor and furnishings as well as an attractively landscaped garden, which includes a play area for visiting children. There are a number of areas for socializing with friends and family. A lot of thought has gone into making this a real home for the residents.

There’s no doubt in my mind that placing our elderly grandmother into Mearns View Care Home was the right decision. All the staff were amazing and my anxieties over the situation of placing her in care melted away after seeing how well she was being cared for. The facilities are second to none and our gran commented multiple times on how ‘clean and comfortable her room was’ and how she was ‘being well looked after’. I couldn’t ask for anything else than to know she spent her last few days enjoying a lovely bath, getting her hair done, and eating freshly prepared food which was specified to her needs.

Sadly she passed away from natural causes at 101 years old, but I’m happy she got to leave this earth with the dignity and respect she deserved. I will always be grateful to Mearns View Care Home for the wonderful caring service they provided not just for our gran, but for us too.
