Thorpe Wood Care Home

Both my sister and myself are very happy with the care our mother receives at Thorpe Wood Care Home. The staff are dedicated and attentive. They meet all of mum's needs. They provide a happy and calm environment for all the residents. Tizzy and Sofia provide excellent mental stimulus for mum as well. It's a great team at Thorpe Wood. Please don't change anything!

My sister has only been here a short while but our experience is top rate. Staff are all very friendly and caring. Rooms clean and tidy.

Our mum came to Thorpe Wood care home in 2025, following a fall at home and a hospital stay, where it was decided her needs could no longer be met at home. She was welcomed at Thorpe Wood with open arms - hugged, and gently guided to her new room. The care since that day has been wonderful, and as a family we have been kept up to date and involved. Mum enjoys the daily activities which range from watercolour painting to listening to singers and pianists. She particularly loves the gardens, with the fish pond and sheltered gazebo so she can be outside even when the weather isn't great. The staff understand mum's needs and look after her well. We are so glad that mum has found her new home at Thorpe Wood during what is a difficult time of her life.

We chose Thorpe Wood care home for our mother just over a year ago.

We are so pleased we made the right choice for our Mum who has Alzheimers.

The home is modern purpose built, beautifully decorated and very clean. Staff are excellent and her care needs are catered for extremely well.

The activities are excellent and our Mum has really benefitted from the stimulation from the entertainment - she loves the piano sing alongs, weekly disco and monthly church service. Organised events for family have also been great for us all to participate in.

The level of detail in the care reports is excellent and shows the extent of their knowledge of the residents and care provided.

Our Mum is has improved with regard to her diet, sleep, hydration and routine medication and is so much happier and less anxious since moving in. We can now have much better conversations with her as she feels secure and cared for.

We would certainly recommend Thorpe Wood to other families.

I can say nothing but positive things about the home ,and its staff ,and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anybody whose loved one needs to be in residential care.

My Father has been a resident of Thorpe Wood Care Home since April. As a family, we couldn't be happier with the level of care Dad is receiving. All the care and nursing staff are fabulous, nothing is ever too much trouble, and we feel secure in the knowledge that Dad is safe and well looked after. The Activities Coordinator does an outstanding job in lifting the spirits of the residents, staff and families, with the likes of arts and crafts, discos, quizzes, bingo, piano singalongs, etc. I absolutely love visiting TWCH, engaging with the activities and seeing all the staff, residents and families that have now become familiar faces. It is clear that TWCH is more than just a care home, it is also a community, and everyone is made to feel welcome. The layout of the building, and its facilities, are extremely well thought out, and the garden area is picturesque, relaxing and calming. All indications are that the change of ownership to Fortava is proving to be an extremely positive one.

My late mum was a resident from Dec 2023 until she passed away in July 2025. During her time there she was treated with respect and dignity. Mum was never one to join in much with activities but was always encouraged to do so by the lovely staff. She enjoyed watching others and the staff would sit and chat to her. She made many friends whilst a resident. When mum was in her final days of life the staff looked after her needs and kept her comfortable and out of pain. My sister and I slept in her room and the new owners purchased fold up guest beds for us. Nothing was too much trouble. I would certainly recommend Thorpe Wood to anyone looking for a care home for their loved one. The ownership changed just before mum passed away but the initial signs were that Fortava were going to continue the good work.

The care shown to my mother is outstanding. Staff go above and beyond to creating a loving family atmosphere. Food choices are excellent and every attempt is made to find something my mother would eat. Activities are regular and varied and sociable and include family members which adds to the warm, welcoming homely atmosphere. The building itself is kept beautiful clean and the layout encourages social interactions between staff, residents and relatives.

Not only was it emotional to lose our mum but we miss the superb team that cared for her.

I highly recommend Thorpe Wood Care Home. While the cleanliness is good, the quality of the food excellent, the activities varied and expertly given, what really sets it apart is the quality of all the team. Everyone is exceptional - the chefs, the cleaners, the activities coordinators, the admin team, the care and nursing teams. All staff showed respect to the residents and to each other, there is a calmness and an atmosphere of support, and fun. A real community. My sister and I knew that our brother was surrounded by caring, friendly and familiar faces during his final days, making him comfortable and secure. A huge and heartfelt thank you.

The best thing about Thorpe Wood Care Home is the staff, they genuinely cared about my grandma, always treated her with dignity and were friendly and welcoming to visiting family and friends. Thank you to all the staff that kept my grandma comfortable at the end of her life, she said you are all great and work really hard.

I cannot sing this place's praises any louder. The care is excellent. The building and the rooms are beautiful. The staff are the loveliest and most genuine people ever. Both of my grandparents have passed away in this place. Most recently, my grandma on Sunday. Every day they dressed her and it was the little details that meant the most to us, they would put in her earrings and make sure she had necklaces on, the things we used to forget as a family. When we weren’t there, staff would sit with her, speak to her and treat her the way you want your family to be treated. This is a care home. It was a home for her where she was cared for in a way we are so thankful for. They have made losing two of the most important people to us an easier experience. I cannot thank them enough.

It was a very hard decision to put our beautiful mum into a care home but after the great respect they gave to our poor father and care they gave him, was no hesitation to put Mum into Thorpe Wood Care Home. She was treated with the utmost respect, kindness, love support and help from all carers, from management to the owners. All gave 100% to our lovely mum, could not ask for better service. Thank you very much.

Thorpe Wood Care Home took care of our father back in 2021, only for twelve days after poor care at another care home. There was no hesitation when we had to put Mum into a care home in September 2023. This home is amazing, the love care and support they show the residents is just above and beyond. It actually moved us to tears when we first viewed. On many occasions, we’ve watched how endearing the staff are here, not only do they look after your loved ones, they look after you on every visit too. We could never thank them enough for taking care of our mother and father in their dying days, you are such special people. Thank you Thorpe Wood staff, you are all amazing people.

My husband was cared for at Thorpewood Care Home from August to November during his stay we found all the staff to be so caring and thoughtful to him and all the family. It made his stay so much more bearable during this difficult time.

My father recently passed away after being with Thorpe Wood for a few months. To secure a place here for him after visiting many care homes in the area, was perfect and at just the right time. The staff have been amazing, from the moment he arrived, he was treated with the utmost respect and given the best care to support his needs. He was losing weight and muscle so quickly and had been depriving himself of sleep and skipping meals before, but they got him settled, managed to get him sleeping again and got him eating regularly. They supported him and our family on every occasion and escorted him to hospital appointments. When times became difficult they made sure the whole family were kept informed of everything we needed to know. The last few months were troublesome emotionally, but knowing how well they were looking after my father was a massive comfort. All the family and my father were so well supported at every moment until he passed - my thanks to every one of the staff.
