Winton Suites by Northcare is a purpose-built luxury care home in Edinburgh, offering 54 beautifully designed suites.

A skilled and experienced team provides 24-hour nursing care, tailored to each resident’s individual needs and preferences.

Every suite is generously appointed and includes turn-down and hospitality services, optional daily newspapers, and passive alarm sensors.

Rooms are finished to the highest standards, featuring spacious en-suites, a small double bed, telephone access, call bell, high-speed Wi-Fi, and Sky TV connection points.

The home’s interiors combine elegance with comfort. They are bright, airy, and thoughtfully designed to create a welcoming atmosphere.

Residents can relax and connect in inviting communal spaces, including stylish lounges, dining rooms, a Brasserie for families and visitors, a private dining room, a hair and beauty salon, and a cinema.

Life at Winton Suites is enriched by a varied programme of activities and entertainment, from yoga and language classes to flower arranging and cultural events.

Karen

Karen Cuthbertson

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2019

Karen leads a dedicated team of three staff in creating nutritionally balanced meals for 76 clients. She ensures that individual dietary needs are met, maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality, personalised nutrition.


Karen’s role extends beyond daily meal preparation to organising special events for clients and their families. These include private dining experiences, summer barbecues, and chef-led initiatives such as ‘Making with Chef’, themed evenings showcasing global cuisines, and monthly cheese and wine afternoons. Karen also actively engages clients through focus groups to shape future menu offerings.


Before joining Northcare, Karen served as Head Chef at Edinburgh's independent Mary Erskine Girls School for three years, during which she earned the prestigious title of ‘School Chef of the Year’ for Scotland.
For fifteen years prior, she held the role of Head Chef at John Lewis Edinburgh, managing a brigade of 26 chefs.


With 40 years of culinary experience, Karen is a highly skilled and passionate chef dedicated to excellence in every aspect of her craft.
