Rosaburn House

from Jim L (Husband of Resident) published on 7 October 2025

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My wife was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's, which progressed to the stage of requiring residential care. As a family, we explored the options available through a number of Care Homes, and settled on Rosaburn House. She entered Rosaburn in February 2025 and settled into the environment. The building
is modern, yet it contains pictures of nostalgia to help the residents feel at home.

The bedrooms are spacious, and personalisation is supported. All the staff are very supportive of my wife, and encourage her to participate in everything that the home has to offer. They all know her and interact with her, treating her as part of an extended family.

I am extremely satisfied with the treatment my wife receives, and the treatment we, as a family and friends, receive. Issues are quickly resolved, and we are kept up to date on any developments in her care.

This type of decision is not an easy one to make, but Rosaburn House provides excellent care and peace of mind.

Reply from Amy Johnston, Business Support Administrator at Rosaburn House

I was at Clarkston House last Sunday and needed a form completed regarding Council Tax. When I was leaving I met Robyn, who was on her day off. I told her what I needed and said I would send my husband back up on the Monday. Robyn insisted on taking it there and then and I got my response on the Monday.
My
Aunt has been with you for just over a year and Robyn has always been very friendly and helpful, nothing seems to be a bother for her.

My mother has recently moved into Balmoral, everything was handled with the utmost care and respect. The process was very quick and was made easier for all the family, we felt the support offered to all of us during this difficult time was fantastic.
We are so grateful for all the staff at Balmoral
who are always friendly, know my mother well and always have a moment to talk to us about anything.
Her favourite things have been taken into account, whether this be the type of food she enjoys, her clothing or what she likes to watch on TV.
The nursing staff are amazing and have looked after my mother much better than any care she was receiving at the hospital.

My uncle has been a resident at Lindsayfield for a few years. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. Every visit my uncle looks so happy and well cared for. He was very thin and frail before being admitted but the staff have been great at making sure he is taking all of his meals.
We have been up
as a family to celebrate his birthday and enjoyed the summer BBQ the chefs are next level. I always look forward to coming and seeing my uncle. We always enjoy watching a western in the cinema next door.

What a lovely place Rosaburn is for my mum to stay. It is her birthday next month and Rosaburn emailed to ask if we would like to come in for a 3 course dinner or afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday with her, as they have done the last couple of years. It's always a really nice experience and just
shows how much they care about their residents and families. My mum feels so at home there and has her own we community of friends to keep her occupied.

Mum became a resident of Rosaburn recently and I was very apprehensive about her move. Staff were very supportive and helpful during the initial transition period. The care home is well maintained, rooms feel spacious and well decorated with comfort in mind. Access to additional services such as chiropody,
opticians and hairdressing services can be arranged very easily via staff. Staff keep in contact with me either via telephone or face to face with any updates or concerns. Unable to comment on meals but mum is maintaining her weight. Housekeeping services fantastic, rooms, communal areas and personal items always clean and fresh. Overall, I am happy with Rosaburn care home and I feel mum content and happy

Balmoral by Northcare

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
My mum was in Balmoral for 4 weeks over July/August to give myself and my brother and sister some respite. She liked it very much there and in her words: 'It is a very good care home'. We were particularly reassured by the medical care and monitoring, and the quality of the overnight care - these are
what are most important to us. The food also sounded really good. My mum loved the brasserie atmosphere particularly and the friendliness of all of the staff - nursing and catering. Two areas that could possibly be improved a little - more organisation in the laundry (my mum's clothes got lost a few times), and more encouragement to do activities. My mum tends to need quite a bit of encouragement to take part in things but does love them when she does - so a bit more of that would be good - perhaps the teachers themselves could pop by the rooms to encourage residents? Or even arrange to do some 1:1s sometimes - this might feel more value for money and ensure physical activity.
Reply from Kirsty Summers, Northcare at Balmoral by Northcare

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughtful feedback about your mum's recent stay with us at Balmoral. We're so pleased to hear that she enjoyed her time here, and it's especially heartening to know she described us as "a very good care home." That means a great deal to the whole team. We're delighted that the medical care, overnight support, and overall friendliness of our staff provided reassurance to you and your family - these are exactly the areas we prioritise to ensure residents and their loved ones feel safe and supported. We're also thrilled to hear she enjoyed the food and the brasserie atmosphere - our catering team will be so pleased to hear this!Thank you again for your kind words and helpful observations. We are always aiming to improve our service and we hope to welcome your mum back in the future.

My Mum moved into Northcare Residencies followong a stay in hospital. I'm sure, like many others, she was reluctant to embrace her new home. However, all staff, without exception, have made her feel very welcome and encouraged her to participate in the many activities on offer. She is treated with
compassion, understanding and respect at all times and has settled in well. She has a lovely relationship with many of the staff who all go above and beyond to bring a smile. The standard of the care home itself is exceptional and as a family we are delighted with the progress my Mum has made since moving here.

This was the best experience ever for my husband who was very well looked after. When he came home he was more attentive with things that were going on and just seemed more interested which is great. I'm sure this was all to do with the attention and mixing with others all thanks to Northcare. As for
me as my husbands carer I had a very good break. Can I make a suggestion as it was best I didn't visit it would be good to get some feed back from the care home as it is impossible to get any information from the person with dementia.I would have liked to hear how he past some of his time and if he joined in with others. To finish I am very happy I made the good decision to have the respite and especially to an excellent care home like Northcare and would certainly want to do it again.

Since first contacting Balmoral to enquire about possible respite care or long term permanent care for the person for whom I am Health and Wellbeing Power of Attorney I would like to state that I have been met with nothing but kindness, compassion and genuine support.
The front of house manager went
out of her way to help me. She was friendly, engaging and very positive. She explained what was available immediately and in the longer term and assured me that Balmoral could assist me in whatever route I should wish to take.
She was very patient and understanding as it took some time to negotiate with the person for whom I'm responsible that respite care then possible full time care was the best way to keep him safe and to ensure his continued quality of life.
She kept in touch throughout. The person concerned is now well settled as a permanent resident. All issues were dealt with professionalism and courtesy.
I cannot praise the front of house manager enough.

Moving a parent into residential care comes with a huge responsibility to get the best possible outcome. For us it was not about all the extras Northcare provide, and the facilities are excellent. We simply wanted the most comfortable environment for dad and the best possible care for him. We have not
been disappointed.
All staff have gone above and beyond to understand dad's personality, meet his care needs, work out his likes and dislikes, and just make him feel as comfortable as possible.
Staff always have time to update us on how dad is and their feedback comes with genuine warmth and empathy.

Mum is well cared for and is happy in her own wee world. Care staff are great with her. The care medically is well communicated to us and she seems content. The food and supplied to mum is of a high standard and the catering staff are almost like carers too. The wing is always tidy and her room is also
clean and tidy.

I am extremely impressed with the care that my parent receives. All staff display excellent, people centred skills and values. The way they all interact with my dad is absolutely excellent. I am delighted that he is in this care home.

Hi, thanks for the review. I am glad to hear the move has been a success. There has been such a positive change following the extended time staying in hospital.
