Job Summary
We are looking for an Activity engagement coordinator to join our wonderful nursing team at Benslow Nursing home in Hitchin.
The Engagement Coordinator is responsible for leading all staff within the home to ensure that engagement is meaningful and person centred. They will achieve this engagement by planning, implementing and supporting staff to implement a range of activities that have meaning to the residents at a time and place that is relevant.
This approach will be based on getting to know the person through life history work and individual care plans to capture likes, dislikes, habits and routines.
This information will be regularly updated and kept relevant and shared with all staff during team meetings
Key Outcomes
- Life History’s to be completed for all individuals (where they have agreed or it is considered in their best interest)
- Life Histories to be kept current as new history is made and are used by staff to fully interact with individuals
- Encourage staff to take advantage of care activities as an opportunity for engagement with individuals
- Ensure you know who family and friends of individuals are and help them to understand and participate in meaningful person centred activities and engagement
- As a residents needs change, support friends and families to remain engaged
- Promote active involvement with the community both by involving the local community in the home and engaging in activities in the local community
Social and Meaningful Activities
- One to one engagement is based on the individuals preference
- All interaction is based on individuals current abilities and interests, with consideration for changing abilities
- Individuals are encouraged to be as independent as possible
- Strong links to be maintained with external services and brought in as appropriate e.g. Pat dogs, Churches, entertainers etc.
- Fundraising activities are strongly led and the staff team are included from beginning to end
- Residents have appropriate opportunities to access the wider community and are supported to do so with escorts etc.
- Emphasis is placed on culture, recognising a person’s culture and enabling an individual to participate in cultural activities as appropriate
- Every opportunity is taken to listen and communicate with residents and communication aids are used appropriately by all staffSupport.
- Residents to socialise within the home by co-ordinating a variety of activities, both recreational and meaningful, that take into account, as previously describes, preferences, cultural needs and abilitiesAccompany residents, where possible, to off site activities, which may occasionally take place outside of normal working hours and assist the home management to compile appropriate risk assessments prior to the outings.
- Help to create an atmosphere that suits individual service users within the care home.
