Job Summary

Relief Chef (East)

Covering Extra Care Schemes across Flintshire, Wrexham and Powys

Looking for flexible chef work without the late nights and split shifts?

Whether you're semi-retired, looking for extra work, or simply want a better work-life balance, this could be the opportunity you're looking for.

We're looking for a Relief Chef to support our Extra Care schemes across North Wales, providing cover when our permanent chefs are on leave or unavailable.

This is not a fast-paced restaurant setting. You'll be preparing and serving lunchtime meals for residents living in our Extra Care schemes, helping create a welcoming dining experience while enjoying sociable hours and the support of a friendly team.

What's in it for you?

  • Sociable working hours – no late-night finishes or split shifts
  • Focus on one main meal service – supporting residents with their lunchtime dining experience
  • Mileage paid – when working beyond your allocated scheme
  • Competitive hourly rate – £14.71 per hour
  • Flexibility – work around your availability while supporting our schemes when needed
  • Supportive team culture – you'll be backed by experienced Extra Care colleagues
  • A role with purpose – helping residents enjoy meals and social interaction each day
  • Vivup discounts and savings platform
  • Cycle to Work scheme

About the role

Our Extra Care schemes help people live independently in their own homes while having access to support when they need it.

Food plays an important part in that. For many residents, lunchtime is not just about a meal – it's an opportunity to socialise, catch up with neighbours and enjoy being part of their community.

As a Relief Chef, you'll step in to support different schemes when needed, ensuring residents continue to receive a quality dining experience and excellent service.

What you'll be doing

You can expect to:

  • Prepare and serve meals for residents
  • Support the day-to-day running of the kitchen
  • Ensure food hygiene, allergen and health & safety standards are maintained
  • Manage stock and supplies during your shift
  • Work with scheme colleagues to provide a positive dining experience
  • Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised kitchen
  • Travel to different schemes when cover is required

What we're looking for

We're keen to hear from people who:

  • Have previous chef or catering experience
  • Hold a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or are willing to obtain one)
  • Understand the importance of food safety and allergen management
  • Are organised, reliable and able to work independently
  • Enjoy meeting new people and working across different locations
  • Share our values of Trust, Hope and Kindness

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential for this role.

This role could be particularly suited to chefs looking for greater flexibility, semi-retired professionals wanting to stay active, or those looking to supplement other work with regular relief shifts.
