We are seeking an experienced Head Cook to lead our Nursing Home kitchen. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a background in a care home setting and be passionate about their work. As Head Cook you will be responsible for supervising daily kitchen operations, food preparation, and ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality. The Head Cook will play a pivotal role in upholding the organisation’s commitment to providing nutritious meals the residents enjoy.

Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, including meal preparation, cooking, and food presentation.
- Implement and oversee all aspects of kitchen management, including menu planning, hygiene standards, health and safety compliance, staffing, cleaning schedules, and waste management.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure correct food storage and handling procedures are consistently followed.
- Lead and support kitchen team members by providing training, support and ongoing development to promote a positive and effective working environment.
- Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness, organisation, and efficiency throughout the kitchen.
- Ensure full compliance with food safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Liaise with nursing staff to meet residents' individual dietary requirements and preferences.
- Complete monthly kitchen audits and report findings, concerns, or recommendations to the Home Manager.
- Engage regularly with residents to ensure their dietary needs, preferences, and choices are being met.
- Prepare and maintain a four-week staff rota to ensure appropriate kitchen cover at all times.
- Attend resident and relative meetings whenever practicable.
- Conduct staff supervision meetings in accordance with the home's policies and procedures.
Experience
- Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a professional kitchen, ideally within a care home catering.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in food preparation, preparation of modified diets, cooking techniques and menu delivery.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire, support, and develop a diverse team.
- Comprehensive understanding of food hygiene, food safety legislation, and regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with Care Home operations and customer service excellence is advantageous.
