Job Summary
Compliance
· To comply with the Health and Social Care (Safety and Quality) Act 2015, including NICE guidelines, fire safety regulations, COSHH regulations, RIDDOR, food safety, first aid, moving and handling regulations and regulatory requirements for medical equipment and devices.
· All employees of the Crown Care Group are required to respect the confidentiality of all matters relating to the business of the residential care unit and in relation to the service users and their family and friends. Employees must therefore respect the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998.
· Employees must ensure they are fully aware of their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and ensure that safe working practices are followed at all times.
· To fully comply with all Crown Care policies and procedures.
· At all times to uphold and promote the privacy, dignity, independence, safety and welfare of all services users and your own conduct in accordance with the Crown Care Group’s high expectations.
· To ensure the standards of the Care Quality Commission and Local Authority Contracts specifications and Safeguarding regulations and principles are upheld.
· To ensure Quality Assurance documentation is completed as per the Crown Care quality framework audit tool.
· To take responsibility for the maintenance of your own professional and clinical knowledge and to utilise this knowledge within the scope of your role.
· To display a professional attitude and encourage professional relationships with all grades of staff.
Service User Care
· To support senior staff e.g. nurses and management with planning work schedules, taking into consideration Service Users’ needs.
· To provide the highest possible levels of care by supporting/assisting Service Users’, when required, with all aspects of daily living.
· To carry out base line observations including, blood pressure, pulse, 02 saturate levels and to communicate any issues/concerns as they arise with the nurse and/or GP.
· To carry out venepuncture as requested by the GP or nurse specialists.
· To support induction and supervision of junior/new staff members in all aspects of their work in the home.
· To assist in maintaining hydration/nutritional needs of Service User’s, monitor skin integrity and ensure prescribed positional changes take place.
· To ensure documentation is completed and recorded accurately in a timely manner.
· To assist Service Users in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. physical, emotional and spiritual.
· To provide supervision and attention when needed, ensuring Service Users retain their comfort and dignity.
· To develop strong communication between care teams on day and night duty/ liaise with nursing staff.
· To ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the Home's policies and procedures supporting junior members of staff.
· To carry out and organise resident reviews as and when required.
· To support nurses in care review meetings - CHC assessments.
· To ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained during duty is not divulged to a third party.
· To pay attention to assisting Service Users who have limited mobility, or physical/learning difficulties making the best use of aids provided.
· To closely monitor Service Users who may be confused and/or who have behavioural problems.
· To assist in the promotion of continence.
· To complete written daily records as instructed and in line with the Home's policies and procedures.
· To liaise with trained staff to ensure care plans to be kept up to date and evaluated monthly.
· To assist the Nurse in charge in carrying out medication administration when appropriate in line with Policy, including ordering, returns and reviews with GP and other health professionals.
· To answer the Nurse Call system, providing assistance as required.
· To report on well-being of Service Users and liaise with GPs and Support Managers etc. in conjunction with the nurse in charge.
· To carry out regular checks on Service Users at intervals determined by senior Staff Members.
· To make and change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty, in line with the Home's disposal of waste policy.
· To ensure the Homes resources are used appropriately.
· To clean and maintain equipment used by Service Users/ Relatives e.g. wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles etc.
· To ensure the Home is kept clean and tidy, in line with the Home's attention to detail philosophy.
· To care for Service User’s' clothing and rooms as named, where required, and ensure that all clothing is recorded and clearly marked.
· To assist Service Users who need help during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc.).
· To assist with serving of food / drinks as requested/ required.
· To wash up as requested/ required.
· To practice maximum integrity in all dealings with Service Users' personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with Service Users.
· To ensure all holistic assessments are carried out when Service Users are admitted to the Home e.g. covering nutritional and incontinence issues, risk assessment etc.
· To report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Service User, colleague, self or another.
· To promote and ensure the good reputation of the Home.
· To notify the Home Manager, or the Person in Charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
· To adhere to all of the Home’s policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
· To ensure all general equipment is clean and well maintained.
· To carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
Social Activities
· To assist in framework of social activities by interacting with Service Users and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the Home.
Visitors
· To make Visitors feel welcome and provide refreshments/assistance as and when required.
· To assist other visiting professionals, such as Dietician, Podiatrist etc. and report to nurse in charge and document in care plan.
· To answer the door and telephone appropriately. To respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly.
Training and Development
· To maintain professional knowledge and competence - developing areas of good practice for discussion with Manager/Deputy.
· To attend mandatory training days/courses, and any additional course appropriate to Service Users’ needs and thereafter to extend knowledge to other team members to improve / implement implemented care/needs to Service Users.
· To understand, and ensure the implementation of, the Home’s Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
Health and Safety
· To understand, and ensure the implementation of, the Homes Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
· To report to the handyperson or the person in charge any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
· To promote safe working practice within the Home including completion of accurate documentation and monitoring of documentation that reflects Service User’s health status.
· To ensure the security of the Home is maintained at all times, including night checks for Service Users’ safety staff support and health and safety.
Additional Duties
· Assume responsibility for undertaking any work related training in order to fulfil your role and any professional CPD requirements.
Key Skills & Specifications
· To hold NVQ Level 3 or higher accredited certification in Health and Social Care.
· To possess a caring and compassionate nature.
· To demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· To be able to lead and work well as part of a team.
· To demonstrate excellent attention to detail and the ability to quickly identify and resolve problems / complaints.
· To have a can do attitude.

· Toi possess a genuine interest in, and experience of working with, the relevant Client group for minimum 2 years as a Senior carer.
· To have experience in the administering medication.
· Satisfactory DBS check.
