Job Summary

Glenkindie Lodge is a 33-bed residential care home in Desborough, operated by Abraham Healthcare Ltd. Mealtimes matter here they're one of the highlights of our residents' day.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Residential Care Home Cook to join our team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious, balanced, and appealing meals for residents, ensuring high standards of food safety and hygiene are maintained at all times. This role offers an opportunity to contribute positively to the wellbeing of our residents through quality meal provision in a supportive environment.

Duties

  • Prepare and cook daily meals in accordance with dietary requirements and preferences of residents
  • Plan menus that are nutritious, varied, and suitable for all dietary restrictions
  • Ensure all food is prepared in line with food safety regulations and hygiene standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including cleaning utensils and equipment after use
  • Manage stock levels, order supplies as needed, and check deliveries for quality and freshness
  • Serve meals to residents in a courteous and professional manner
  • Record food temperatures and maintain documentation related to food safety protocols
  • Collaborate with care staff to accommodate special dietary needs or requests

     
  • Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or culinary roles, preferably within a care home or similar environment
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
  • Ability to prepare meals that meet nutritional guidelines and accommodate special dietary requirements
  • Experience working in a kitchen environment, with good organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills and a friendly manner when serving residents
  • Previous experience in restaurant or catering service is advantageous but not essential
  • Ability to work independently whilst maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety
  • Flexible approach to working days and hours to provide cover for a colleague during periods of absence
