Senior Care Assistants play a vital and highly valued role within our homes.

You will lead, develop and coordinate a team of care colleagues to deliver the highest standards of care, ensuring every resident’s dignity, choice and wellbeing are upheld at all times.

The role: You will support the Home Manager with the day-to-day operation and overall management of the home where you are appointed.

You may be asked to assume appropriate responsibilities in the Manager’s absence. You will help create an environment that respects residents’ rights and wishes, promotes person-centred care and maximises independence.

As a Senior Care Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

Understanding residents’ usual health and wellbeing needs, and recognising how ongoing care can affect residents and their families.
Supporting residents with areas of daily living they would usually manage independently.
Taking part in holistic, person-centred care activities.
Meeting residents’ individual needs while promoting choice and independence.
Encouraging residents to participate in planning and reviewing their care.
Supporting the care planning process and maintaining appropriate medication records and care delivery for a designated group of residents.
Respecting each individual’s right to privacy and confidentiality.
Supporting residents with moving and handling, personal hygiene and dressing.
Observing and reporting changes in residents’ health or condition.
Reporting hazards or unsafe equipment to the Home Manager or appropriate senior colleague.
Attending required in-service, development and mandatory training.
Ensuring care is delivered in line with all relevant policies, procedures and professional practices.

For a Senior Care Assistant role, it would be desirable to have:

A Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care, or a commitment to work towards one.
Previous senior care experience in a residential or nursing home.
A genuine passion for supporting older people.
Experience of medication administration.
