Job description:

We are seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Person to join our friendly care home team in Kensington, Northallerton.

Our residents’ safety, comfort and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. While our care team focuses on delivering outstanding care, you’ll be the hands-on problem solver who keeps the home safe, well-maintained and running smoothly — our very own on-site “Bob (or Wendy) the Builder”. Like all staff, you will need to have a friendly and pleasant manner around all residents, staff and external contractors, to ensure residents feel comfortable in their home.

You must be eligible to work in the UK, no sponsorship is available.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the care home and garden, carrying out repairs, identifying potential issues, and ensuring all weekly, monthly and yearly safety checks are completed to a high standard.

Working closely with the Home Manager, you’ll plan and prioritise maintenance tasks, using your initiative to respond quickly and practically to any issues that arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out general repairs and maintenance across the home
  • Weekly, monthly and yearly safety checks and audits completed.
  • Fire alarm testing and record-keeping
  • Call bell system checks and recording
  • Fire extinguisher checks
  • Painting and decorating as required
  • General watering and tidying of garden, including planting pots and bedding plants
  • PAT testing
  • Travelling in your car to local pharmacies to collect urgent medications
  • Travelling in your car to hardware stores to collect equipment to undertake the role
  • Review the maintenance log daily and address urgent issues immediately
  • Undertake repairs within your competency or arrange external contractors after discussion with Home Manager
  • Maintain accurate records of all checks and completed works
  • Liaise with external contractors when required
  • Respond to rare emergencies outside of normal working hours
  • Report accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards and risks to management
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH and Fire Safety regulations

About You

  • Practical, self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Experience in general maintenance, with skills in painting and decorating
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing work
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety, COSHH and Fire Safety
  • Organised, reliable and able to prioritise tasks effectively
  • A full driving licence is essential – expenses paid for any travel done

Usual hours are 8 am-4.30 pm Monday- Friday

Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide satisfactory references.

Ideally, you would live local to Northallerton, so should the rare emergency occur, you can be on hand to support the Care Home.
