Strong Life Care Howgate House Care Home is looking for an Deputy Manager to join our management team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to develop their leadership skills, support a dedicated care team and play an important role in maintaining and improving standards across the home.
You do not need to be a Registered Nurse to apply. We are looking for an experienced care professional with strong leadership skills, a good understanding of care within a residential, nursing or dementia setting, and a genuine passion for people.
What would a typical day look like?
As Deputy Manager, you will work closely with the Registered Manager to support the day-to-day running of the home and ensure residents receive safe, compassionate and person-centred care.
Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the Registered Manager in all aspects of the running of the home.

Taking temporary responsibility for the home during periods of the Registered Manager's absence.

Providing visible leadership and support to residents and staff.
-
Working alongside the care and nursing teams to maintain high standards of care.

Supporting the effective management of medication and ensuring safe medicines practices.
-
Monitoring care plans, risk assessments and resident documentation.

Supporting the assessment and review of residents' changing needs.

Completing and overseeing audits across key areas of the service.

Identifying areas for improvement and ensuring action plans are followed through.

Supporting CQC compliance and maintaining high standards of regulatory evidence.

Supporting safeguarding, incident and complaint investigations.

Coaching, supporting and inspiring staff to deliver consistently high standards.

Supporting staff supervision, development and competency.

Working with the Registered Manager on recruitment, retention and workforce planning.

Supporting rota management and ensuring staffing meets residents' needs.

Building positive relationships with residents, relatives and external professionals.

Promoting dignity, independence, choice and person-centred care.

Ensuring lessons learned from incidents, complaints and audits are shared with the team.

Supporting continuous improvement across the home.
A visible and hands-on leader
This is a role for someone who enjoys being visible and involved.
You will spend part of your working week providing leadership within the home, alongside dedicated management responsibilities. The role will include clinical shifts each week, with supernumerary management time provided to undertake management and quality responsibilities, subject to the needs of the business.
We want our Deputy Managers to know their residents, know their teams and understand what is happening within their home.
You will be someone staff can approach for support, residents can trust and the Registered Manager can rely upon.
What are we looking for?
Someone who can demonstrate:

Significant experience working within a residential, nursing or dementia care environment.

Previous experience in a senior or leadership role.

A strong understanding of high-quality care delivery.

Good knowledge of CQC requirements and regulatory expectations.

Understanding of safeguarding, medication management and infection prevention and control.

Experience with care planning, risk assessments and quality audits.
-
An understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.

Strong communication and organisational skills.
-
The ability to coach, develop and motivate a team.

The confidence to challenge poor practice and promote good practice.

The ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions.
