Strong Life Care  Howgate House Care Home is looking for an experienced Clinical Deputy Manager (Nurse) to join our management team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse who wants to combine their clinical experience with leadership and management responsibilities, while working closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the home provides safe, effective and high-quality care.

What would a typical day look like?

As Clinical Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, providing strong clinical leadership and ensuring residents receive the highest standards of care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Registered Manager in all aspects of the running of the home, including taking temporary responsibility during the Manager's absence.

  • Providing visible clinical leadership and support to residents and staff.

  • Working alongside the nursing and care teams to ensure high standards of clinical care are maintained.

  • Supporting the assessment, planning, delivery and review of residents' care.

  • Ensuring care plans and risk assessments accurately reflect residents' current needs.

  • Supporting the management and monitoring of medication across the home.

  • Monitoring residents' changing health needs and ensuring appropriate escalation where required.

  • Supporting clinical decision-making and providing guidance to nurses and care staff.

  • Taking an active role in clinical audits and quality assurance.

  • Reviewing incidents, falls, wounds, infections and other clinical concerns and ensuring appropriate actions are taken.

  • Supporting safeguarding investigations and clinical reviews.

  • Liaising with GPs, district nurses, pharmacies and other healthcare professionals.

  • Supporting CQC compliance and maintaining high standards of clinical governance.

  • Coaching, supporting and developing nurses and care staff.

  • Supporting clinical competencies, supervision and staff development.

  • Supporting rota planning and ensuring appropriate clinical staffing levels.

  • Promoting a positive culture where staff feel confident to raise concerns, learn and improve.

  • Building positive relationships with residents, relatives and external professionals.

A visible and hands-on clinical leader

This is a role for someone who enjoys being visible and involved within the home.

The role will include clinical nursing shifts each week, providing hands-on clinical leadership and support to residents and the wider team.

You will also have supernumerary management time, subject to business needs, to undertake management and quality responsibilities such as:

  • Clinical governance

  • Audits

  • Care plan reviews

  • Quality assurance

  • Investigations

  • Staff supervision and development

  • Clinical competencies

  • CQC preparation

  • Action plans

  • Resident and family engagement

  • Supporting the Registered Manager

We want our Clinical Deputy Managers to know their residents, support their teams and understand what is happening within their home.

What are we looking for?

You must be a Registered Nurse with a current NMC registration.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Experience working within a nursing, residential or dementia care environment.

  • Previous senior nursing or leadership experience.

  • Strong clinical knowledge and understanding of nursing care.

  • Good knowledge of CQC requirements and regulatory expectations.

  • Understanding of safeguarding, medication management and infection prevention and control.

  • Knowledge of clinical governance and quality assurance.

  • Experience with care planning, risk assessments and clinical audits.

  • Confidence in recognising and escalating changes in residents' health.

  • The ability to coach, develop and motivate a team.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • The ability to manage competing priorities and make sound clinical decisions.

  • A genuine commitment to person-centred care.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Relevant Professional qualification (e.g.
  • Registered Nurse or NVQ/Diploma minimum level 3 in Health and Social Care). Three years' experience in a Senior Caring role in a residential or nursing home. Experience of writing Person Centred Care Plans Experience in Senior/Team Leader role Experience of managing a care team Understanding of the prevention of abuse of vulnerable adults
  • recognition of the signs of abuse and procedures to follow in the event of an allegation of abuse. Residing within 30 minutes of the Home. Leadership skills and experience of conducting effective person centred one to ones. Medicine Management. Time management
  • interpersonal and communication skills.
