Abbey House – Morden

We are looking for caring, reliable and compassionate Care Assistants to join our team at Abbey House, Morden, a residential care home dedicated to providing high-quality, person-centred care in a safe, respectful and welcoming environment.

WE CAN PROVIDE SPONSORSHIP FOR ELIGIBLE CARE ROLES, SUBJECT TO THE APPLICANT MEETING THE RELEVANT VISA AND EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS. PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT PROVIDE SPONSORSHIP FOR NURSING ROLES, AS ABBEY HOUSE IS A RESIDENTIAL CARE HOME AND DOES NOT PROVIDE NURSING CARE.

About the Role

As a Care Assistant, you will support residents with their day-to-day needs while promoting independence, dignity, choice and wellbeing. You will work closely with colleagues, senior staff, residents and families to ensure each resident receives safe and personalised care.

You will also be expected to use our digital care management system to record care accurately and in a timely manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing high-quality, person-centred care in line with individual care plans.

  • Supporting residents with personal care, including washing, bathing, dressing, grooming and continence care.

  • Assisting residents with mobility, transfers and safe movement around the home, using appropriate equipment where required.

  • Supporting residents at mealtimes and assisting with food and fluid intake where necessary.

  • Encouraging residents to maintain their independence and make their own choices wherever possible.

  • Supporting residents with daily activities, social engagement and meaningful activities within the home.

  • Providing companionship, reassurance and emotional support.

  • Observing residents' physical, emotional and behavioural wellbeing and reporting any concerns or changes promptly to senior staff.

  • Supporting the safe administration of medication where appropriately trained and authorised.

  • Following safeguarding procedures and reporting any concerns immediately.

  • Maintaining residents' privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.

  • Following infection prevention and control procedures.

  • Maintaining a clean, safe and comfortable environment for residents.

  • Working effectively as part of the care team and communicating clearly during handovers.

  • Attending staff meetings, supervision sessions and required training.

  • Following all care home policies, procedures and health and safety requirements.

Digital Care System Responsibilities

All care staff are required to use the home's digital care recording system as part of their everyday duties. Responsibilities include:

  • Recording personal care and support provided to residents.

  • Updating daily care notes accurately and promptly.

  • Recording food and fluid intake where required.

  • Recording repositioning, mobility support, continence care and other required monitoring.

  • Recording activities, wellbeing and relevant observations.

  • Reading and following residents' electronic care plans and risk assessments.

  • Recording and escalating changes in a resident's condition or behaviour.

  • Completing digital handover information and communicating important updates to colleagues.

  • Maintaining accurate, factual and professional records.

  • Ensuring all digital information is handled confidentially and in accordance with data protection requirements.

  • Using tablets, mobile devices or computers provided by the home confidently and responsibly.

Full support and training will be provided on the home's digital care system.

Previous experience in a residential care home is desirable, but candidates with the right attitude and willingness to learn may also be considered.
