Bletchley Park secrets uncovered by the residents of Hulcott

Bletchley Park lies just 15 miles due north of Hulcott care home and far from its secretive existence during World War II, now makes for a captivating tourist attraction.

The residents of Hulcott took full advantage recently as they spent the day at the home of the machine that decoded the Enigma Cipher Machine, perhaps the most famous cipher of recent years that gained widespread notoriety when it was used by German Intelligence during World War II.

Many of the residents knew of Bletchley Park but had never had the chance to visit, so they were fascinated by the range of rooms that were laid out as they would have been at the height of World War II. They featured memorabilia including ration books, gas masks, uniforms, original letters and of course various decoding machines.

The residents watched videos playing of the astonishing achievements of the Codebreakers whose work is said to have helped shorten the war by two years, before taking in the surroundings with a laid back picnic on the lawn.

Located in the peaceful village of the same name, Hulcott is a 19th Century house providing residential and nursing care for up to 38 elderly ladies and gentlemen.
