London’s o2 was the target of an ambitious care home fundraising group, assembled by the for a climbing attempt on Thursday 18 June.
Staff from residential homes , in Tonbridge, and , in Kemsing, joined with family and friends of residents in order to scale the famous building, a challenge that was successfully completed despite some of the 13 members having a fear of heights.
So far the brave effort has raised over £2,000 for The Wish Appeal, with donations still coming in, including £700 raised by the family of a former Woodgate resident who recently passed away.
Reflecting on the achievement, Woodgate’s activity coordinator, Leah Gale, said: “I wouldn’t say I have conquered my fear of heights but it was amazing none-the-less! We were delighted to be joined by a former resident’s family too, who between them raised an absolutely incredible amount of money for our cause. Everyone who participated had a great day and we are all excited for Woodgate’s next adventure.”
The Wish Appeal is a charity that was launched by Abbeyfield Kent in 2014, because the care provider wanted to highlight the fact that it is often the simplest things in life that are most important to those with care needs. The Appeal looks to grant wishes that can be just a meal with loved ones, or an outing to a location an individual has great affection for.
