Son arrested and charged with murdering mum in care home

A 52-year-old man has been charged with murder, after his mum June Knight aged 79 died of injuries in her care home in Essex.

Robert Knight, 52, of The Fairway, Leigh, is appearing in Southend Magistrates Court this morning charged with her murder.

Essex Police were called at around 10pm on Monday 10 December to Langley Lodge care home in Westcliff-on-Sea, with reports that a women in her 70s had died of her injuries.

Her son was arrested at the scene.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death of the woman, who was related to the suspect.”

A post mortem will be carried out in due course.
