Care home operator HC-One has said it has formed an ‘infection control army' of more than 800 workers to defend its care homes against COVID-19.
The workers have had extra infection control training to enable them to train colleagues on an ongoing basis to keep residents living at its 329 care homes safe.
The extra training comes on top of infection control lessons every worker receives as part of their induction when they join HC-One.
The care group says new modules have been added during the coronavirus pandemic to reflect changes to government guidance.
Each of its care homes has a Housekeeping champion and a Care and Clinical champion who are members of the new army.
They have been trained to ensure all staff carry out strict infection control measures including the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), regular handwashing and social distancing as well as rigorous cleaning and decontamination procedures.
Emma Charlton, HC-One’s director of business development and brand, said: “Being part of the infection control army is something to be really proud of.”
Liz Whyte, HC-One’s director of Standards and COVID-19 lead, said: “We would like to say a special thank you to all of our colleagues who have put themselves forward to be part of the HC-One Infection Control Army and who are leading the way in protecting our residents and colleagues against the virus.
"Your hard work and commitment to protecting lives and fighting the virus is outstanding.”
