Local care home resident, Rosina Caulkett, celebrated her 107th birthday on 13th November, making her one of the oldest people in West Byfleet.
Rosina spent her big day with friends and carers at Oakcroft House Bupa Care Home, where she has been a resident for five years. The birthday girl was treated to a surprise party, complete with a homemade cake and received a special phone call from her niece, Linda.
When asked about celebrating her 107th birthday, Rosina said: “Reaching 107 is certainly very special and I am very grateful that my friends and carers here at Oakcroft House went to so much trouble to help me celebrate.”
Rosina grew up in Kentish Town with her three brothers, David, George and Stanley, and her sister, Florence. Rosina never pursued a career or married life, despite being engaged twice, as she dedicated her time to caring for her brother, Stanley – who was badly injured in Dunkirk during the second world war. He had severe facial and stomach injuries and sadly passed away in 2005, aged 93.
She, unfortunately, lost contact with brother David, but her sister Florence had a large family, who she was very close with. Rosina moved with her brother, Stanley, to Sunbury-on-Thames in the 1960s, where she stayed until she moved to Oakcroft House Bupa Care Home in 2015.
In her youth, Rosina enjoyed ballroom dancing with her brother, George and now enjoys relaxing at Oakcroft House care home.
Home manager, Oggie Gelacio, said: “I’m honoured to have been a part of this incredible lady’s milestone birthday celebrations. At Oakcroft House, we believe in helping our residents live longer, healthier, happier lives and it’s important to us to help them celebrate occasions such as these in the best possible way.
“The team went above and beyond to make it a special day for Rosina and it was lovely to see her with a big smile on her face.”
