Staff and residents at Barchester’s South Grange care home in Monifieth got up close and personal with a furry friend when they celebrated all the wonderful things about man’s best friend for upcoming International Guide Dog Day.

International Guide Dog Day is an annual event dedicated to celebrating the vital role guide dogs play in the lives of people with visual impairments. It also serves as a reminder of the important work done by guide dog organisations worldwide.

Residents had a visit from therapet Korky, who worked as a guide dog for many years before retiring and becoming a beloved therapet. His owner Sandy spent time chatting to our residents explaining about all the different roles and responsibilities guide dogs have and how the dogs are trained. Our residents enjoyed learning about the crucial work they do for their owners.

General Manager, Catherine said: “We have learnt so much about Guide Dogs and how extraordinarily clever they are. Our residents love animals and lots of them have owned dogs in the past so it was lovely to hear their stories about their beloved pets.”

George, a resident said: “I have always had dogs, we had them when I was growing up and I used to work with them and train them in my younger days, I love how funny and loyal they are.”

South Grange is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering high-quality care across its care homes and hospitals. South Grange provides nursing care, respite care and YPD unit.
