Newquay care home praised by care regulator

A Cornwall care home is delighted to have been classed as Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the second highest rating possible.

The team at Anchor’s Kimberley Court care home on Crantock Street in Newquay were celebrating after receiving the accolade.

The CQC’s robust inspection process gives care homes a rating of Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, or Inadequate based on five categories. Anchor’s Kimberley Court care home received high marks in the three categories inspected and rated.

The CQC was impressed by colleagues at Kimberley Court who were recognised as being “kind, compassionate and enjoyed their role caring for people”. Inspectors also noted that care colleagues worked well together and were attentive to resident’s needs.

Inspectors also praised how Kimberley Court’s residents and their relatives were complimentary of the home and that colleagues were “very patient and caring”. Residents said they enjoyed the activities at the home, with one saying: “There is always something going on”.

Carrie Lewis, Manager of Anchor’s Kimberley Court care home, was thrilled that the CQC had recognised the high standards and hard work of her team.

She said: “I’m really happy that the CQC has given us a Good rating. My team work incredibly hard to make sure Anchor’s Kimberley Court care home is a great place for older people to live. Getting this kind of praise from the CQC is just the sort of recognition they deserve!”

Resident Frank Collier, 80, who has lived at Kimberley Court care home for three years, said: “I am very happy to hear this result, I love living at Kimberley Court and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“The staff here are very good and look after everyone – they are champions!”
