Agatha Christie Historical Talk!

Last Updated: 22 May 2026 @ 00:00 AM

As part of Local & Community History Month, we were pleased to welcome special guest Judy Dewey, Curator of Wallingford Museum, to Waterside Court for a fascinating and engaging talk all about the life and history of Agatha Christie. The talk explored Agatha Christie’s remarkable connection to Wallingford, where she lived for more than 40 years at Winterbrook House with her husband, archaeologist Sir Max Mallowan. Many of her world-famous novels were written there, making Wallingford an important part of literary history. Residents enjoyed hearing stories about her private life in the local community, her love of the area, and the lasting legacy she left behind. Being located in the historic town of Wallingford, many of our residents already knew about Agatha Christie’s local connections, which made Judy’s talk even more special and meaningful. Her knowledge and storytelling truly brought history to life, creating wonderful conversations and shared memories throughout the afternoon. We were especially proud to reflect on the fact that one of our beautiful lounges here at Waterside Court Care Home is named the “Agatha Christie Lounge” — a fitting tribute to one of Wallingford’s most celebrated residents. Thank you, Judy, for delivering such an incredible historical talk and for sharing the fascinating story of the “Queen of Crime” with us all. It was an afternoon thoroughly enjoyed by residents, relatives, and team members alike.
