On Friday 29th May, staff and residents at The Cedars care home in Bourne, dusted off their dancing shoes and donned their sparkling frocks to join Alison Jay performing the most popular songs form Eurovision over the last seventy years.
Knowing how much their residents had enjoyed watching the contest in Vienna on the 16th, and then reminiscing and singing all the songs from bygone years, the activities team at The Cedars care home came up with the genius idea of throwing a Eurovision Disco Party. The team invited all the residents, their families and friends and the afternoon went down a storm.
Residents joined in and sang all the songs, danced and clapped along as Alison Jay performed such songs as “Puppet on a String” and “Jack in a Box”, “All Kinds of Everything” and of course the transcendent ABBA. The hospitality team at the home also put on a show of sweet and savoury treats and refreshments for everyone to enjoy during the show. Residents and staff dressed up and even took to the mike. Joy, a resident of the home, said, “So good to see everyone so buoyant!”
Senior General Manager, Rebecca Aldred, commented: “The Eurovision Disco was a fantastic way to connect with each other in a relaxed and supportive environment. Music has a magical way of unlocking memories and tap into life histories; it was wonderful to see the power of song and dance bring so much joy to the room. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment at The Cedars as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this one was a favourite!””
A family member added: “We enjoyed the Eurovision Disco Party so much and hope The Cedars hold another similar event soon - Mum hasn’t stopped talking about it! Everyone had an amazing time and it was a wonderful and rare opportunity to turn back the clock and have some fun with our loved ones!”
