RESIDENTS AT LOCAL CARE HOME CELEBRATE SENIOR HEALTH & FITNESS DAY

Meadowbeck care Home in York got active for Senior Health and Fitness Day which took place on May 27th. Residents participated in a variety of activities throughout the day designed for a wide range of physical abilities, including a local morning walk, and a fun afternoon of movement to music with lots of dancing with rainbow sticks and colourful scarves in our garden, with the help of refreshing fruit kebabs and infused lime and mint water helper everyone stay cool in the sunshine.

Created to inspire senior-friendly physical activity, the national day was launched to increase awareness of the importance of remaining active to maintain strong, healthy joints and muscles, and to encourage diet and lifestyle changes for an overall improvement to wellbeing, and illness prevention.

Residents spent the day trying out taster sessions for a whole host of different activities, there were group classes such as walking, movement to music, arm chair exercises, and dance classes on offer.

Annaliza Kemp, General Manager at Meadowbeck Care Home said: “Senior Health and Fitness Day is a great opportunity to try something a little bit different, you never know until you try – you might find a brand-new hobby you really love. “We have had a brilliant day trying out all kinds of new activities from line dancing to tai chi. We’ve all had a lot of fun, even some of our staff were put through their paces!”

Sandra, a resident at Meadowbeck commented: I love dancing, its so much fun and it makes me feel so much better “I’m all for trying new things - I never thought I would do all the exercise classes at my age but I absolutely loved it. I can’t wait to have another go!”
