Orchard House Residents Enjoy Wild Day Out Thanks to Community Partnership

Residents at Orchard House Care Home in Wisbech have enjoyed a memorable day out to Banham Zoological Gardens after a generous donation from local funeral directors W. Bailey & Son helped turn their chosen wish into reality.

The special trip was made possible following a charity bingo evening organised by W. Bailey & Son Funeral Directors in April. The event raised funds for two local care homes, with Orchard House receiving a donation of £550 to support resident wellbeing and activities.

When the cheque was presented to residents by members of the W. Bailey & Son team, discussions soon began about how the money should be spent. After considering a variety of ideas, residents reached a unanimous decision – a day trip to    .

As a thank you for their generosity and ongoing support, residents invited the team from W. Bailey & Son to join them as guests of honour for the outing, creating a wonderful opportunity to spend time together outside of the home and celebrate a partnership that has brought so much to the local community.

Miranda Robinson, Lifestyle Lead at Orchard House Care Home, added: "The excitement started from the moment the cheque was presented. Residents loved discussing ideas and deciding together how the money should be used. Having the W. Bailey & Son team join us on the day made it even more special. It was a lovely opportunity to thank them personally and share in the experience together."

The relationship between Orchard House and W. Bailey & Son has flourished over recent years through a number of community initiatives. Most notably, the funeral directors joined forces with Orchard House and Tesco Wisbech to support the home's Christmas Wonderland event, helping more than 300 local children receive gifts from Father Christmas and enjoy festive family activities.

During the zoo visit, residents enjoyed seeing a wide variety of animals, exploring the beautiful grounds and sharing a picnic prepared by Orchard House's catering team. The day provided plenty of opportunities for conversation, laughter and creating new memories with friends old and new.

They are wonderful community partners who genuinely care about making a difference to the lives of local people. When residents were asked how they would like to spend the donation, the zoo trip was an immediate favourite, and it was fantastic to be able to make it happen."

The day is another example of the power of community partnerships and how local organisations can work together to create meaningful experiences that enrich the lives of older people.

For the residents of Orchard House, the trip was more than just a visit to the zoo – it was a day filled with friendship, adventure and a reminder of the kindness that exists within the Wisbech community.
