Pitcairn Lodge Praised for Excellence in Latest Inspection

The team and residents at our care home in Westhill are celebrating a glowing Care Inspectorate (CI) report.

Pitcairn Lodge Nursing Home has received stand-out ‘Very Good’ ratings in its recent report following an unannounced inspection, for leadership, the quality of the staffing team, the quality of the home and how well care and support is planned, as well as a ‘Good’ rating for how well the team supports residents’ wellbeing.

Residents and their loved ones had high praise for the devoted staff, with quotes including how they felt “loved and well cared for” in a home which had a genuine “family feel”.

Comments from inspectors noted “lots of laughter”, and “lots singing and dancing to encourage movement” and that “people were happy” in an environment where they had a “sense of belonging”.

A heart-warming extract of the report explained how one particular resident, who had recently moved into the Sanctuary Care home, had already regained some speech and was “heard to be laughing after many months of silence”, which the family credited to the “high levels of positive engagements and activity experienced since moving into Pitcairn Lodge”.

The leadership of the home and the quality of the staff shone through, with inspectors praising an environment where colleagues “strived for excellence within a culture of continuous improvement”.

Another stand out area were the activities residents enjoyed, with a “whole team approach” to ensuring “positive engagement experiences” with residents supported to achieve their “hopes and dreams.”

Inspectors explained how residents were also supported to remain connected to the wider community and continue to “enjoy long-held important relationships” as well as “making new bonds,” which had a hugely positive impact on their wellbeing.

Home manager Ruth Witkowski said: “This report captures what makes our home so special - warmth, connection and a culture that never stops striving for excellence. We are immensely proud of our team and grateful to our residents and their loved ones for the trust they place in us.”
